The hostel is very well located for exploring the South Downs. Car parking is available. The better way is to park in the villages on the north of the Downs like Edburton, and backpack up to the hostel. It will save a lot of driving from the coast. The hostel has everything you need and even has good free WiFi... More

The hostel is very well situated with a beautiful sight on the country and the sea far away, but not very convenient: There are many, too many doors, (and heavy doors) that separate the rooms from the rest. You must push 4 or 5 heavy doors when you want to go to the toilets, to go to the shower, to... More

Thankyou for your comments, we certainly are in a great location. I take on board your comments about the doors, however they are all fire doors, and are all required. We do only have the one indoor space, that can become a hive of activity at busy times. The communal experience is something that the YHA like to encourage. I... More

Stopped here for lunch on a 4 day cycle of the SDW with family. It a great cycle stop as it has a cycle repair station and track pump as well as outside tap to refill bottles. Children enjoyed their lunch break. Very well signposted from the Way, may stay here next year when we may attempt the Way in... More

We are the ideal stop for cyclists - both for those seeking refreshments, and also those looking for a place to stay. If you are cycling from Winchester we are just over half way along the South Downs Way; one of the few accommodation providers right on the trail. We look forward to seeing you next year. More

We visited whilst cycling the South Downs way. The location is excellent, right on the SDW. Rooms are- as you would expect - basic, but exactly what you look for in a youth hostel. There is a nice selection of beers/ice cream so it's worth arriving a little early to enjoy them outside if the sun is shining. Seemed busy,... More

Only managed one night as I was cycling the South Downs Way. A secure lock up for the bike with a very clean and safe room for me. They hired towels for the shower and even had decent beer! Best to book in advance for accommodation and food as the hostel was very busy. Please remember it is a hostel... More

James, Thank-you for your review. I am pleased you found the hostel good for your stay. We do indeed have great cycling facilities - including the secure bike shed, and a public repair station and pump. Advance booking is highly recommended, especially during the busy summer. I hope you successfully completed your ride along the South Downs Way and hope... More

Really friendly staff, with great hospitality. Both staff members on duty (Lydia and Harry) went out of the way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms were clean and simple and there were many showers to choose from - definitely no shortage! Breakfast was great too. Thanks for the brilliant stay guys!

This is a bit remote there really isn't anything close by so unless you have come by car it is worth coming prepared as there are no shops etc to hand although it does have a bar and serves food. It is a bit old-fashioned and the bedrooms don't have en-suite. The best bit of the hostel is lounge area... More

Thank-you for taking time to review us. Our location is one of our best assets, but we are located 4 miles from the nearest town, however we are right on the South Downs Way, so great for people using this trail. Our lounge and dining area was refurbished at the end of 2015, and has great views. We are glad... More

Stayed here whilst at a festival, good for the money and a nice area, although the location is a little out the way it is perfect for a quick and easy stay. Really good value for money. Beds are a little uncomfortable but the rest is fine and staff very friendly.

Charlotte, thank-you for reviewing your stay. I am sorry you found the beds uncomfortable, we have recently replaced all mattresses and bedding in the hostel. We are ideally located if you are attending one of the local festivals - especially Wildlife at Shoreham or Big Church Day Out in Steyning. More

Far from the madding crowd. A lovely location to base a walking or cycling break. Right on the South Downs. About 3.5 miles from the nearest bus, so will need a bike, car, taxi or walk.
