This was a special oasis in the Yucatan Peninsula. All accommodations are private palapas. Ours had three beds for our family of four and was lovely. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious and the owner and staff are all very helpful and kind. Our kids enjoyed walking the owner's dog around. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat....

We were on the "Ruta Puuc" and as we didn't want to drive back to Merida every day, we decided to stay at The Pickled Onion. We stayed in the Bungalow right next to the pool. In fact we got two small Bungalows which were nice, comfortable and clean. The decoration shows the good taste of the owner, a nice...

Thank you for your lovely review and happy you enjoyed your stay with us I am not sure where you have been eating during your stay here in the Yucatán that would make one condisder the prices are overpriced when you can get a main meal, of good quality, for 6.85 U S which is our hightest priced meal on...

The Pickled Onion is one of the best eateries on the Puuc Route. Food is decidedly Yucatecan with specialties like poc chuc and pollo pibil but you’ll also find a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches. The restaurant is located in the small Mayan village of Santa Elena, situated perfectly along the Ruta Puuc, between the ruins of Uxmal and...

Make sure you talk to her about her humble beginnings. She's a great person and an excellent business person thanks for having us

Wish we had found the Sozzled Scallion - sorry, Pickled Onion years ago! Owned, built and run by one of the most amazing women I have ever had the honour to meet, the eponymous Valerie Pickles, this modest but beautifully presented place truly is THE place to base yourself to discover the majesty of the Ruta Puuc. We have stayed at 3 areas hotels. This by far is the best for many reasons. The cabins are all built in the Mayan style. Each is decorated with local items. The owner takes pride in all the details of making this place fabulous. There are mosquito nets but not required, they serve as decoration. Rustic comfortable beds with sweet...

We had lunch at this place outside of Santa Elena, located at the main road between Uxmaal and Ruuta Puuc. The food was really good, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere on the veranda, surrounded by trees and plants. The music is nice background mexican style.
