Want to give 4 stars as the service, food (separate review) and overall style were good. However, our room (5) whilst having a decent bed, had a tiny cubicle shower room and toilet area, with a glass sliding door so that using the lavatory was an exhibition sport. In addition, the small shower cubicle had doors that fitted well at the top but not at the bottom, so that we ended up with a stream running from the shower, into the toilet area and down onto the bedroom floor. It does look as though they are trying to spend money to upgrade the rooms, and the location, comfort (excluding shower area) were fine, and we will stay again but request a different room. And to be absolutely fair, they did charge us for a lower grade room than that which we had booked without any of the above being mentioned. The breakfast was plentiful though all continental cold foods. Staff were all very friendly.

This hotel is set at the end of its own narrow road in a steep valley in the Ardennes, with its own streams which once served it as a mill. We were there in September so it was a bit quiet but that added to its appeal for us - it felt quite exclusive.
We had a very friendly greeting and made to feel very welcome. Our room was a bit small but lacked nothing for our comfort. Breakfast could perhaps have been a little more imaginative but was nonetheless adequate for our needs.
We had a fine dinner in their atmospheric restaurant and were well served by attentive staff.
All in all we regarded this as a good find and will certainly visit again when we are passing this way - never mind having to detour to do so.

We stayed for just one night, although we would have stayed longer if possible. Lovely setting in woods, the Meuse close by. Very good value meal, and delightful personnel. Bedroom OK, but could do with some refurbishment. An address we definitely recommend for its feel, its excellent value, and the lovely cycling routes (well-marked) in the French Ardennes.

We came at the beginning of December, motivated by several recommendations and impatient to discover this place. What a desappointment. Far from the reputation that had been presented to us.

Satisfactory cuisine combined with deplorable service.

The cold welcome gives the impression of being too much, encouraging people to leave quickly.

I booked 3 mights full pension (ie breakfast and dinner incl) and got excellent value for money. My bill for 3 nights including wine and a few beers was only €250/£200. The rooms are quite basic but clean with good showers and free wifi. The food was excellent, imaginatively served. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Overall I really liked the place's individuality and peacefulness.

The place has obviously undergone some recent fire safety improvements so the bedrooms have extra firedoors and smoke detectors.
The hotel is well-signposted from the centre of Haybes and is an excellent base for walking, cycling and touring the Ardennes.

Musty rooms, diluted soap in the dispenser, no ventilation in bathrooms, in need of a revamp. Great exterior - good be somewhere exceptional. Let down by propriotor. As it is in the middle of nowhere had booked evening meal. However there were no staff so evening meal was off. And no, the propriotor hadnt thought of finding/suggesting any alternative to eat or even though of having some taxi numbers to hand - it was all our problem. Very dispointing indeed. Basil...?

This old mill turned small hotel/restaurant is hidden away in the Ardenne Forest. Choosing to spend the night here was a gamble from our side. Fortunately it was a gamble that paid off, more than expected. The hotel and restaurant was run by a skeleton crew of three or four people, but what they lacked in staff numbers they made up for by heart and quality. The welcome was warm and extremely relaxed. Our room had all the amenities we could wish for, including wifi. The only downside is the narrow stairs, which could be a problem for some people. The food in the restaurant was an experience worth a stop in itself. Maybe a little heavy on the cream, but there is no doubt the kitchen is skilled and ambitious. The wine list was on the traditional side but had a high level. Since the hotel was located deep in the dark forest, the after dinner walk was more adventurous than normal. We're definitely coming back if we are in the area again!

Apparently this has been recently refurbished, it must have been a rush job. The potential is there, a lovely building and grounds but it is poorly finished.
Poor (very strange) room door system, temporary electrical sockets fitted as permanent fixtures, electrical cables routing all over, steps in room not fully fixed down, windows will not stay open. The room was not ready, no milk in room with the drinks available. TV guide in room did not match channels available in any way.
No one had checked the room as the shower did not work. (A part was laying in the bath) When asking for help with shower i was met with incredulity, as if i was stupid. He did come up and fix the part that allowed the water to divert to the shower head but chose to ignore that the water then sprayed from both fixture ends leaving little pressure at the actual head. This wasn't a problem as the part to fix to the wall was also broken! (we had a bath!) Water is highly chlorinated.
Not at all customer focused and not really ready for guests at all. On arrival there was no staff in the hotel at all. A phone call eventually got three members of staff to turn up, the first two just ignored us though, apparently not their job. Eventually we got in but encountered the problems above.
The food was reasonable but just reaching the standard for the price, nearly! Drinks were just expensive.
Apart from one member of staff, a very poor unprofessional set up, made us all feel uncomfortable as if we were imposing on their evening.
