This is a nice accommodation next to the lighthouse at Cape Borda at the north eastern end of Kangaroo Island, inside Flinders Chase National Park and is run by Parks SA. We were the only residents for the night, except for the family of kangaroos keeping us company on the lighthouse grounds. We also had the fortune to get a...

I drove all the way out to Cape Borda to visit and photograph the Cape Borda lighthouse and to do the lighthouse heritage tour. Despite the dirt road for much of the journey in, the visit was well worth the effort. The 12.30pm tour with Mick the light house keeper extraordinaire was a highlight. He is a real character and...

We stayed in Woodward Hut for one night. You can make simple meal using the kitchenware (pan & pots, eating utensils, fridge, stove and microwave). Heater found in hut, and in fact the hut is quite warm, not as cold as we expected even it was winter time. The wind is not strong too as compared to the other 2...

We were the only residents and it was quite an experience to live in a lighthouse keeper’s lodging with the whole area to ourselves. The first night was good weather with an incredible sunset and habituated Kangaroos right in front of us. It rained on the second day and we had no sunset and the Kangaroos were hiding from the...

What a brilliant experience. The hut is tiny but has two comfortable single beds, a small fridge, microwave, stove and crockery plus a table and two chairs. While there's a bit of leaning over each other to reach things, it's such a unique opportunity to experience how the settlers did it. I'd say you'd have a good chance of having...

Our stay at Flinders Light Lodge at Cape Borda made us appreciate the modern day comforts available compared to the life of the families who operated the light in the 19th Century. Outside it was blowing a gale and raining, but we were snug inside our well appointed cottage. Trevor the helpful Ranger informed us that Cape Borda lighthouse was...

I spent the time to take the guided tour of the Cape Borda Lighthouse with Mick the ranger and it was one of the best, most informed, fun presentations I have ever had. My kids loved him and the UK relatives thought he was amazing. Very animated, great story teller, true passion for his job. At the end of this...

We spent two nights in Hartley Hut at Cape Borda, the only true lighthouse on the island. You'll have to take the tour to get the full story and it's well worth it. Mick is a true story teller...and then some Hartley Hut is a basic accommodation for two, but clean and comfortable. There is a full kitchen with adequate...

Isolated and very special accommodation at the end of the island. I don't know if I have ever stayed anywhere more special than this little hut. The sunset was incredible and there are lots of wild kangaroos and wallabies jumping around the property. You need to be prepared and bring your own supplies as there are no shops nearby but...
