Travellers' Choice
Bull's Retreat, is named after its mentor Col. Narinder 'Bull' Kumar, one of India's most celebrated mountain climbers. The resort welcomes adventurers and pilgrims alike. Nestled amidst a lush forest and landscaped gardens on the Badrinath yatra route, it's just a 30 min drive from Rishikesh. Rafting and trekking for the adventurous, or yoga and mediation on the beach by the Ganga river just a 10 minute walk away, for the introspective - take your pick.

This place turned out to be one of the best decisions we made on our Rishikesh trip. We thought of going ahead to Shivpuri away from all the maddening long weekend crowd of Rishikesh. Bull's Retreat is a small cozy resort surrounded by so much greenery. Amazing food, great staff attitude and warm hospitality made our stay very pleasant. Oh not to forget, rooms are so well kept and thoughtfully equipped with all must haves which truly reflect that only ladies can manage any property this beautifully :) Another amazing thing about this resort is that if you are ready to trek a little, you can also treat yourself to a private beach :D

The first thing that comes to my mind when I talk of this resort is the calm and coziness it offers. We were a family of 5, including our puppy and the serenity all around is so welcoming. A wonderful property amidst the forest , with a nice walkway all the way to the Ganges, a large corner room and greenery all around. So much open space is definitely a rarity nowadays. What better when you can hear the sound of chirping birds around you early morning, as there are loads of other resorts in Rishikesh where all you could hear is loud DJ music!!! Moreover our puppy thoroughly enjoyed the wide open spaces all around and the staff were also very welcoming to pets. I would like to mention people like Sultan and Babool ( I hope I have got the names correct) whose smiling face is so refreshing. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to escape from the city life and spend a few days relaxing amidst greenery. And if you have a furry friend accompanying you for the trip, look no further. The only reason why I didn't rate them a perfect 5 is because they seem to be a bit short on resource and hence service is on the slower side. Also food needs a bit of improvement. But all in all, an excellent time spent in Bull's Retreat.

My memories of Bull's retreat go far back - when I was a student visiting Rishikesh and couldn't afford anything more than a cheap lodge-stay. Naturally I couldn't afford Bull's then. Right on the entry point to Shivpuri, Bull's might not look like the expansive Neemrana or Aloha properties (which are a pocket-burner), but it gives you all the happiness/comfort you might be looking for, at a much cheaper price (I have realized this now - 5k for 2 people/night). We were a group of 5 friends and unanimously found the property pretty, peaceful, and filled with cozy nooks and corners to relax. The staff is cheerful - as long as you have your breakfast, lunch and dinner on time. Seriously! The kitchen reminded me of a college canteen (with way better food), which shuts down no matter how much you plead. So do not expect a hotel "room service" environment - and in case you are planning to have a drink - do mind the time. The rooms were cozy and comfortable, although we did have some issues with clogged washrooms, but nothing major. Overall - its a place worth exploring if are travelling in your vehicle - Rishikesh is just 15-20 minutes away. Bull's also arranges for river rafting, excellent evening bonfire and other activities - so do give it a try if you decide to visit. :)

Response from Dilshad Master-Kumar, Other at Bull's Retreat

Thank you for taking the time to review us - deeply appreciated. I apologize for the kitchen timings, but like any mountain property, we shut down around 10 PM and start early - by 8 AM. The staff needs at least 2 hours after closing and before opening next morning, so thank you for appreciating that! We do not give room service - it's something we make clear when guests check in. And the reason is simple...we're on the border of the forest reserve. Food smells bring unwelcome visitors into rooms with open doors. It's happened before and hasn't been a pleasant experience as you can well imagine! Apologies for the clogged washroom - we've checked which room you were in and have addressed the issue. Thank you for that feedback. Regards Dilshad

If you keep coming back to same property, it speaks volumes about it. Isn't it! Bull's Retreat is like a second home for us and our friends who keep visiting it multiple times over the years. The personalized service that you get from friendly staff led by Ramakant ji & Anuj and wonderful staff members like Narayana is matchless. It is strategically located right on the main road in Shivpuri, away from the hustle bustle of Rishikesh city which is increasingly getting commercialized. They organise boat rides and rafting in house so you dont have to worry about any thing. I must mention the great food which has become hall mark of Bull's Retreat restaurant, special mention to chef Prakash whose cooking is out of the world. Five star from my side as always and tribute to legacy of Col Bull Kumar to whom this nation is forever in gratitude for his exemplary service to nation. Regards Nitin
