First, let me say that this was my first time staying in a hostel. I am a neat freak and value peace and quiet above all. From the moment my friend and I arrived at LMdP, we were treated with respect and courtesy. The caretakers are friendly, young and wonderful and more than willing to tell you about all the...

Pro's 1. Staff were friendly and helpful and down to earth, would chat to us and inform us of where is great to go and how to get there ( and not just in Montreal) 2. The living room is cosy and has a variety of instruments and a microphone! 3. The staff clean this place everyday and do a...

Friendly, homelike hostel in the old town. There is a choice of private rooms or small dorms and a big dorm space. All seems comfortable. Free fast laundry facilities. Noone was there to meet me but info was on the door about how to get in and one of the other guests showed me around. A member of staff explained...

I stayed here for 4 days in August. I stayed in the 5-bed male dorm. I really enjoyed how central and inside the old city we were, because once you walked out, all the historical sites were within a few minutes from you. As said before, you do need a security code to enter the hostel. If you want to...

Stayed here in may 2012 when visiting Montreal for a concert. This hostel is great, I love the fact that you cant get in without a code, after hours its left on the door for you. We stayed in the girls only room and it was great. Beds weren't super comfy but doable. It wasn't that noisy from outside but...

First time at hostel. Wanted to try it out and being in old Montreal was perfect. Reviews lead me there. Upon check in a construction worker had to do it as the staff weren't available which was werid. The place is clean, smells clean, and quiet inside. Everyone seemed very friendly. It was sad we were awaken by the manager...

We were very surprised when we got to our hostel to see how clean and nice it was for such a low price. Even in the mixed gender dorm there were plenty of privacy curtains. The staff helped us out with directions and everything else we needed to know. But be careful - on their website it lists the metro...

I loved staying here, and it is more then worth its price. Its location is very convenient, right near the old port, but not a far walk from downtown either. There is also quick access to the metro, and many taxis. It is located on a fairly main street, but is all upstairs, and feels plenty safe and comfortable. It...

It is very important that you have your door code if you're arriving late because there is absolutely zero staff there after 6pm. When you walk in the place does smell like feet, but that's because everyone must take their shoes off. I found out later, no shoes are allowed because the floor is made of very creaky wood. I...

This hostel was fantastic! Very safe, quiet location for our midweek stay. The check in process was smooth, and super convient for our schedule. The dorm style living was amongst the most private I have seen in a hostel and the bed assignments were clear and personalized. I have nothing but great things to say!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
