A good location, with shared bathroom, sitting room and kitchen gathering point. Breakfast fruit, cereals, breads, jellies yogurts, coffee, tea and milk plus international conversation. A couple blocks from Avenue du Mt Royal and a neighborhood shopping/restaurant district provides many dining options available. Sharing traveling with visitors from Europe and Asian and Canada in good conversation a positive element. Impressive... More

My teenage daughter and I spent 5 nights in Apt. #1. It's a charming space, very comfortable and well equipped. Lovely front and back terraces to enjoy breakfast or just sit and read. The kitchen was stocked with coffee, teas, juice, yogurt, fruit, cereal, bagels, jams etc. It was a pleasure to return to the apt. just to relax between... More

I shared one room with a friend. It looked out into the street, but was very quiet. It is not in downtown, but a subway station is nearby to get you to wherever you need. The neighborhood was quaint and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We shared a bathroom with other guests, but it was very clean. I... More

Beautiful house, friendly host - Jo (and David who was helping out when we stayed). Near transit for downtown and old city - but also great to walk to nearby St Denis and Avenue de Mont Royal shops and restaurants. Our bedroom was comfortable and spacious, the kitchen was well stocked for 'help yourself' continental breakfast - the atmosphere was... More

We booked this spot on a whim, and we were so glad we did. My partner and I decided to visit Montreal for a pre thanksgiving getaway, and we got lucky-- we not only found this awesome apartment that we had all to ourselves, but we got it at an amazing price. We chose the breakfast included option, and were... More

This is a marvelous place to stay. Merci to Jo for creating such a welcoming guesthouse. Beautiful spare rooms, common areas, and kitchen with artsy touches. I slept well, drank tea, met interesting travelers, and explored this charming city like a local. Many thoughtful touches from a generous self-serve continental breakfast to bath sheets and tourist maps. Le Plateau is... More

My friend and I had a great time at La Lanterne. Very friendly, clean and with a sense of community. Rooms are smartly themed under music, art and literature. Our room was comfortable and despite the fact that it was a busy time with other guests, everything is very quiet at night. The breakfast had good options and I liked... More

We had a wonderful stay here. Beautiful house in art deco style, in a leafy green neighbourhood in the French part of town. Bustling Mont Royal street with a lot of restaurants only 2 blocks down. Nicely sized, quiet room. Shared but very clean bathroom. Wonderful breakfast for you to take, but know that you're supposed to clean up your... More

We had a great stay at La Lanterne. Jo is very friendly and accommodating and we had everything we needed, including use of the kitchen to prepare meals. It's very clean and while not fancy, it's charming with Jo's personal touch. Located right off the city bike paths and near the metro - it's also a very convenient place to... More

I really enjoyed my time at La lanterne!! It fell so relaxed and nice. The kitchen has a lot of light and space and you prepare you breakfast as you do at home. We didn't have any problems sharing although it is always uncomfortable to share the bathroom but we knew it. The best is the neighborhood, 2 blocks away... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
