The lobby is quaint and lovely, with comfy chairs and a fireplace. The room is gorgeous and spacious--even though it is the least expensive. The bathroom is huge and spotless. The continental breakfast is many cuts above. The only complaint is that we did not partake of any of the wine, soft drink, or food items in the room, but...

The hotel is lovely - great Old Montreal ambience which we love. Our room was large and very nice. We had a package including continental breakfast, which also was very good. Besides being a beautiful hotel, the staff were outstanding. Unlike other places we have stayed in Old Montreal, they did not make us feel like they were doing us...

I loved this boutique hotel- warm reception upon arrival. Beautiful, chic restaurant in hotel- sat at bar while waited for room to be ready (we were early.) Room was GORGEOUS and spacious- beautiful view down to the main street, fireplace, and comfy bed. Beautiful bathroom too. We were asked how our stay was, and everyone was sooo accommodating, warm and...

Where to start... So I'm not actually staying here tonight, because I'm partial to staying in new places to get a better picture of the area. But I'm currently sitting in the Lobby because I can think of no better place to pass the early afternoon hours before dinner. A cozy fire and couch along with a glass of wine...

Splendid hotel in Old Montreal, with spacious and comfortable rooms, very friendly service from Welcome to Check Out with a personal touch. In the morning breakfast is fresh and high quality, in the evening the lobby with fireplace is great to have your drinks. Must do when you stay over in Montreal.

The Nelligan was amazing. From the second we walked in, we knew we'd have a great stay. Everyone at the desk and concierge was so warm, welcoming and kind. Maude was always there for us when we needed something. It also happened that it was my birthday during our stay, and they arranged to have chocolate cake and a sweet,...

My husband and I spent one night at Hotel Nelligan for our 35th anniversary and everything was perfect! The customer service was impeccable and accommodating, the rooms were beautiful, and they even surprised us with cake and chocolates for our anniversary. Best location in the Old Port too - footsteps from everything. I would definitely stay here again!

I was in Montreal for work in Jan 2017 for just one night - the Hotel Neligan was great - it's a great location - in Old Montreal just one block from Notre Dame. Exposed brick, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, separate shower, large room, lots of windows that open. Nice buffet breakfast. Friendly reception staff, free wifi. Would definitely go there...

This hotel is the best in Old Town. I have been coming here for years. I haven't been in about 5 years but just visited 2 weeks ago and it has only gotten better. Great rooms, food, drinks, and the service is incredible.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
