Hyatt Place Montréal – Downtown generally impresses with its clean, renovated rooms that boast spaciousness and striking city vistas, a highlight for numerous guests. Despite the central location being a boon for those looking to explore local attractions, concerns have been raised about the nearby area's atmosphere. While the hotel's modern décor receives applause, mixed reviews emerge regarding the value, with some guests pointing to unexpected costs and amenity shortcomings such as breakfast service and pool temperature. Service quality varies, with reports of both commendable staff interactions and instances of disorganization.

Stayed at this hotel for the first time with one adult and one child (under 15). Hotel is located within a minute walk to green/orange line of Metro (the immediate surrounding area is not the nicest, with many unhoused people sadly, but I never felt unsafe and I will say this is not uncommon for many neighbourhoods in Montreal). There is a Starbucks attached to the lobby and a pharmacy/grocery also attached to the hotel. The hotel and room are very clean. The pool is a good size, and the sauna was clean (too bad no hot tub). The bathrooms are shower only (keep that in mind if you have to bathe infants/toddlers). There was no microwave in the room, just a mini fridge and a Nespresso coffee maker. The food options at breakfast are OK (generally what one would expect), though I didn't like the open, big tub of yogurt. The breakfast plates are very small (almost like the size of a bread plate), so it took several trips and about 3 plates to get my entire breakfast. This is annoying because when I put my first plate down at a table, a staff member came over to clear it away (when the food had not even been touched yet), as I was up getting more food. You need to submit a breakfast card each morning to get in the dining area (which is good as I have stayed in hotels where non-guests sneak into the breakfast room. We didn't get housekeeping on our second morning (which is odd bc we got it on our first morning), so I had to track down more tissues and coffee pods in the late-afternoon when we returned to our room. I can't speak to parking, as I didn't park a car, and I didn't make use of the fitness room. There are some nice working & lounge spaces on the mezzanine level of the hotel. I would stay here again.

Stayed here to celebrate christmas in Montreal. The rooms are newly renovated and the interior also feels very very modern and ergonomic. The location is right in downtown and it also has a dedicated parking. The supermart which is connected to the hotel was an added bonus along with 24 hours mcdonalds right opposite the hotel.

I had to stay here for 3 nights in November for an organized event. The rooms are nice, clean and recently renovated. There is a connection to the IGA store with full selection of groceries, which is very helpful because there is no restaurant in the hotel and the buffet breakfast is very basic. No options to order a la carte, no option to pay extra for specialty coffee. Fruit selection was oranges and cantaloupe, no bananas or berries. Fortunately, there is Starbucks connected to the hotel downstairs. Parking next door, underground is very small and tight, low ceilings so must be careful opening a trunk. Twice when we came back at 10-11pm, the lot was full and we were told to park on the street, or go to another location 5 min walk away. That was a problem, there were quite a few people loitering in the area, which must be frequent occurrence because front door is locked after certain hour and you have to ring reception to open . During the day, the park across was a place of gathering for hundreds of men receiving food, clothing etc. As a single female I didn't feel safe walking in the area after dark.

Upon arrival the hotel looked nice, we were checking in and were asked for a credit card for a deposit of $150. Which we provided and when we saw it was for $735.37 we asked the receptionist to pay on debit, she assured us that this is only a security deposit and payment would be held but not charged, and that when we were going to check out we would be able to pay with our debit card. Well, come to check out we are at reception ready to pay on debit and we are told that we do not have an outstanding balance.
When we ask the receptionist as to why the cc was charged when she specifically told us we can pay on check out she was looking at us all confused not even realizing she was the one that checked us in.
The manager comes down to refund the initial transaction and our debit cards keep getting declined, we can’t understand why and it results in my partners debit card getting blocked. They then move us onto a different receptionist which asks if it’s debit or credit. We tell her and the transaction goes through instantly. The original receptionist then turns to us and tells us that we should have said it was debit and not credit while the whole reason of the refund is that we didn’t want this charge on our credit card! The absolute incompetence of the front desk staff and management is something I’ve never seen before.

The hotel offers a swimming pool (reason to why we chose to stay there) however, they do not provide bath robes or changing rooms. When asked 2 staff members we were advised that it’s not included and we can use the toilet beside it to change or we can change in the room and take 23 floors in our swim wear?! You would get better service in a motel at this point.

To top it all off they don’t even provide water for the guests. I didn’t even think it was legal not to have drinking water in the room and have NEVER seen a hotel without complimentary water at-least for the first night of your stay. Oh and also no toilet brush in the bathroom? So you literally can’t even use the bathroom in your own room, what a ridiculous way to cut costs.

Worst hotel we have ever stayed in and will never go back and make sure to warn people to stay away from it!

Booked in for 5 nights B and B only told at reception check in that breakfast service had been stopped and told there would be a refund of 11 dollars per person at check out. Rather disappointed with this as we picked the hotel because it served a breakfast. Not sure where you can find a breakfast for 11 dollars locally
The hotel bar...no one mentioned it at check in...had reduced hours from 5 to 8 pm. Why??
The hotel uses the term downtown in its name. This I found misleading as it is some distance from the heart of old Montreal.
The area the hotel is in is pretty run down with many individuals sleeping rough and a real feeling of destitution.
One incident was particularly unpleasant. We purchased a bottle of wine and clarified with reception that it could be drunk in the lounge area...they even gave us cups to use. We had assumed there was no hotel bar. A manager later approached us to ask us rather brusquey to stop drinking. An unpleasant exchanged occurred and we left. Bad treatment for guests in a 4 star hotel.
That aside the rooms bathrooms beds and pillows are v good as are reception staff. Rooms have no dressing gown or slippers...how do you get to the pool.
Overall well not return. In my opinion it's a 3 star hotel in a poor location.

Great view from my room on downtown Montreal. The mattress was very comfortable, the pillows fluffy and the absence of carpet always leaves me with a feeling of cleanliness. The room was spotless when we arrived. The breakfast buffet is complete and tasty. But, most importantly, the staff were friendly and smiling throughout our stay. What a beautiful attention for a hotel of this size that can easily be impersonal.

I stayed at this hotel as my husband had heart surgery at a nearby hospital. I had originally booked for a few nights and ended up staying for 14. The staff went out of their way to ensure that I could stay in the same room each time I extended my stay. They inquired about my husband’s condition daily. The front desk staff, housekeeping, security, breakfast room employees were all very kind and professional. My room was very nice and comfortable with an amazing view. I highly recommend this hotel.

Pros-
Staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly
The renovations are lovely and a big step up from the Gouverneur (former hotel)
On-site parking $$$
Location is walking distance to Old Montreal for most people, maybe a bit far for some.
The fitness centre has everything I was looking for, free weights, cables, rack and cardio options but, see below.

Cons-
Don’t do the breakfast option- staff are rude and you basically serve yourself and staff patrol the area, even running after people into the hallway (!) on the mezzanine telling them to come back and put away their own dishes. I have never seen this anywhere in my life. A grown man chasing (he RAN out of the restaurant) a teen girl who seemed alarmed. I thought she had dined and dashed but no it was that she didn’t clean her own table. Plus, the food was not great. Runny ‘eggs’ and dried out potatoes.
Another first for me. I was in the gym and a cleaner came in spraying cleanser in the only area of the gym I was in. I was the only person there! She sprayed it directly on my phone and an open glass of water. When I asked her to stop as the air was thick with cleanser she just shrugged said it was fine and kept spraying all over the corner I was in. I had to leave as the air was filled with cleanser, not great when you’re breathing hard while exercising. I told the front desk and they handled it well.

They recently had a strike so I don’t know if tension is high but there was a general sense of anger in the staff members aside from the front desk who were great at check-in and friendly throughout.
Finally, the bar was closed on Saturday night. I was sitting nearby on my phone and watched about 30 people come up, realizing it was closed and then left in a span of 20 minutes. There are some basic things that this hotel does wrong.

I may or may not stay here again. As a Hyatt member I love the brand and there were some standout negative moments that give me pause. The room and common areas are the positives.

This was our first time as a family in Montreal and we came to experience the magic of the holiday season -- our stay at the Hyatt Place Montreal - Downtown was clutch. The location was central to everything we visited, making our walking commute reasonable with young children. Upon arrival, we were upgraded (!) and greeted by a platter of fruit, which was just what we needed after a long road trip. The room was perfect and made our extended weekend stay pleasurable - the tub was enjoyed by all! Thank you Hyatt for making this Christmas getaway a memorable one!

The room was dirty. We took pictures and complained at the reception desk. The front desk supervisor came to inspect the room and instead of confirming that it was dirty, got into the argument with us, asking us what we want her to do. All we wanted was to be accommodated in a clean room after we had a very unpleasant experience in another hotel (All this was explained to Noor to give details of why we were so disappointed. Instead, she said that our past experience is not related to our stay at Hayatt and she decided to finish the conversation. At the elevator, she refused to notify us of her position and name, but then changed her number). Also, we were charged more for our stay. The same evening we also made a complaint to a manger, but no excuses followed. Of course, the room was cleaned. The advetised price for the stay was $178.00 per night, breakfast included. We stayed for two nights and we were charged $584.56. We would like to receive the explanation to why were were charged $100.00 more than expected.

We felt very safe. We traveled with little kids, and just like any downtown hotel, there will be homeless people around the area. We never felt unsafe but made sure to go straight to our hotel and hold their hands a little tighter at night. The hotel floors need card key access and possibly the front door too after hours (?) but to be honest, I felt very safe and so did my family. The staff made us feel very safe upon entering and throughout our weekend stay.

The parking there is underground and very tight. Could you park a Ford F-150 there? Maybe, but you might have limited options on the lowest level. Sorry I don't have a phone number for it.
