We were looking for a cheap, clean place to stay for a night after deciding to go to Montreal on a whim. This place looked really cute in the photos but was quite different in person. We drove hours to get there and were exhausted by the team we reached it. Couldn't figure out how to get in ... ended...

The Pensione Popolo was a nice, clean, and affordable place to stay during my visit to Montreal. Great location for cool local bars and music, plus you get a free ticket to a show downstairs at the famous Casa Del Popolo (birthplace of Arcade Fire and Godspeed You Black Emperor... wow!). Everyone was super nice to me too. Plus it...

Where can I start! The check in, there is no check in desk. You go to the bar and check in so it's not convenient. All rooms are in the 2nd and 3rd floor and that's OK but there's no elevators and if you're carrying luggage the stairs are narrow and at a steep slope. Rooms are super small, bathrooms...

Hi Eddie. I'm not sure exactly what room you stayed (sounds like our smallest one) but only 2 of them have a shared bathroom. We have 2 other rooms that are larger with private baths as well as a fully equipped apartment as well. As we are a small hotel it works well to have travellers check in with the...

Accommodation is very basic. If you want somewhere with TV and a bathroom in the room, this is not the place for you. If it is just a base for somewhere to sleep, then this is fine. Despite being above a bar with shows in the evening, you could not really hear anything. WiFi is available. Access code is obtained...

Its very basic..no tv, old furniture...sheets but had our own bathroom,,comfortable beds, don't hear the café and the people there are really nice All people in Montreal, however, the staff in the office could be more friendly and inviting...not quite sure what that was all about. but its affordable and safe with charm. don't expect the ritz just expect a...

I booked a room for one night and, for the price and location, it was OK, no more. Close to a lot of good restaurants on St-Laurent and Laurier Street. The room and bathroom were very clean but the place really needs to be revamped, specially the carpet. My room was on the St-Laurent blvd side and was very noisy;...

Its not a hotel, its pension. A low quality pension! very small. We had our private 3pc washroom. In the website, it has wonderful pictures, but fake pics! The rooms are small, old, not good quality beds, noisy, no TVs, and no parking, you have to feed the meter for your car to park on the street. Above a caffee,...

The place is above an café. The noise from the café ends by midnight and wasn't that hard. But the chatting people outside (not streetside) kept going on till 5 in the morning. And we're loud. The beds are also old with thin pillows. Wouldn't recommend this place. Neighbourhood is really great.

Hotel very small. One shared bathroom and one shared toilet. Bad smell all around it. In the website, it has wonderful pictures. The rooms are small, bad smell, old and small TVs, and no parking, you have to feed the meter for your car to park on the street. I don't want to say more, I just want to say,...

Now, I'm going to star by saying, plain and simple, if the idea of staying in a cozy inn located two floors (of stairs) above an amazing cafe with easily the coolest staff of people you will find in Montreal is not what you're interested in, then this is not the place for you. We stayed here in July (2013)...

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
