I was actually quite impressed by this hotel. It was better than I expected for the price we payed. It is an old Victorian mansion and the room we had was quite charming with high ceilings, hardwood floors, deep tub and cute/antique-y furniture. My favorite part was our room was extremely spotless - cleaner than many other hotels I've stayed...

My brother and I drove overnight from Philadelphia to Montreal and arrived around 6:30/7:00 in the morning. The woman behind the desk (and I wish I'd gotten her name!) was very courteous and let us take advantage of breakfast and a parking space hours before our check-in time. She said she'd call us as soon as our room was ready,...

We stayed four nights and will visit the Ambrose again if we are in town. It is quiet and comfortable with a sense of style indicative of bygone days. You have to have an interest hisotry and perhaps a little imagination to filly appreciate what the Ambrose offers. It is a renovated Victorian townhouse that has not had its' past...

On the basis that we wanted to be right there and not at the Ritz Carleton, we decided to risk the Ambrose and received a warm welcome. Yes it is old and needs significant restoration, but one of our favourite hotels in Paris is like that too. The room was very clean as long as we didn't look up too...

We liked this hotel. It's in an old brownstone close to the subway station. It was a long walk from train station, but though some nice neighborhoods. The front desk staff was attentive and helpful and recommended some great lunch and dinner spots. The spiral staircase was quite steep as were the front steps, which may be a problem for...

I enjoyed my one night stay at this hotel. The hotel is located in a great location on a quiet street, close to restaurants, shopping etc. My room was comfortable and clean. There are no elevators but that was not a problem for me. The breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, croissants, hard boiled eggs and fruit. I would stay at...

This hotel was a big disappointment. We cannot understand the high ratings given to this hotel by others. One of the reasons we chose this hotel, other than the positive ratings of other travelers, was the location. It was close to the subway, the museum of fine arts, McGill University, and restaurants, and located on a charming street. On the...

Beautiful and well kept hotel. Very clean. My boyfriend and I stared here one night in June on our way to the US. We had the family suite (only one available due to our short booking time) and it was beautiful. Large, comfortable bed, sunken tub, and lovely view. Perfect location in downtown Montreal. Parking is at the back of...

This hotel is absolutely charming. It's well kept and clean. Our room had a bizarre layout, but it had everything we needed including an air conditioner. This hotel does not have an elevator, but the stairs were easy enough for us. Luckily, we didn't have too many bags! We stayed on Saturday July 12 and the location was great. We...

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
