Don't look at the pictures very misleading you'll probably pass it before you realize it's the hostel. The staff is very friendly and nice. Depending on the room you stay in it's not that bad but beware the 10 bedroom in the basement it's like a dungeon!!! Surprisingly the 12 bedroom is nicer. Great location in the middle of everything... More

DO NOT LOOK AT THE PHOTOS, they are very misleading: our private room was dank, damp and very smelly. The breakfast was the worst hostel breakfasts I've ever had. The nutella and jam tubs were empty, the coffee machine was also empty! It is NOT a continental breakfast. There was no juice but just black current squash which was very... More

I was traveling alone and it was just one night stay in Montrel for me. Came for a quick visit so this was te best option for me. It was so economical and very close to all the attractions. Close to metro and was in heart of downtown. Located in Rue Denis St which is fabulous tourist attraction with... More

The location was ideal for me - theater, restaurants, subway, centrally located, good company, friendly staff - inspired me to go to New York and try their NY hostel :) WiFi was available. Good basic breakfast was available - wholesome and healthy...

Their location is close to the intercity bus station and a subway station. There are a lot of restaurants around there. Their facility is also fairly acceptable. The basement is a lounge and kitchen, where you can eat simple, but free breakfast. Bathrooms are small, but clean. Free wifi is available anywhere in the hostel. The reception is open 24... More

I was there at the end of summer for a leisure personal trip (alone) and stayed in that hostel for one night. It was horrible, so scary, old but clean. There was up to 8 guests per room, a small 10x10x20 cm lockable cabinet and there was no lock provided (You need to buy one to lock your stuff). The... More

The pictures on the Internet where partially deceiving. Our suite was just as pictured and we liked it, even the stairs to the 4th floor were ok. The location was good and we enjoyed the St. Denis area. The staff was very nice....no complaints there Some street noise but not too bad. On the downside: the breakfast was a joke... More

We had a good time in the Jazz. The hostel is very nice located. A very nice Bar - just across the street. (The Barkeeper made very tasty non-alcoholic cocktails for my girlfriend). In walking distance are very nice restaurants, julie and chocolat (try the fondue!!), asian food and much more. The Room was HUGE and clean. Our Room was... More

I went to Mtl for the Grand Prix and after two pricey places found the Jazz for a rediculously keen price. Once there, I couldn't have been made more welcome or had such a great time and extended my stay to ten days. A more friendly place in Montreal you would be hard pressed to find, and the centre of... Stayed in the female dorm of the Jazz hostel the second week of June 2012, and got lots of bed bugs bites, and the management didn't care and didn't even closed down the dorm. STAY AWAY!!!

Staying in Quartier des Spectacles

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier des Spectacles
The bar-none entertainment district for music and arts, Quartier des Spectacles is an interactive playground that delights the senses. It totals over 30 performance halls, with the vibrant Place des Festivals at its heart. The outdoor event space features glowing towers, glass edifices, and granite-lined bike paths, and hosts annual festivals, concerts, and comedy nights. The cinema, theatres, and exhibition centres are entwined with external art projects, exemplified at Montreal's Contemporary Art Museum and appearing along every walkway of the Promenade des Artistes in the form of sculpture and public works, from digitally-enhanced swingsets to glowing fountains. Design, performance, and alternative music come together here, a stone's throw from the lively Latin Quarter along Rue Saint-Denis, the quintessential after-party spot for dinner and a drink following a day of jazz, poetry and play.
