I left my heart at Auberge L’Apero! Really, it made my stay in Montreal such a pleasure. Paul, the owner, is really such a great guy and very knowledgeable. He really showed me some great offbeat places that I would've never thought to see in Montreal! It made my stay very memorable. The hostel itself is a bit on the...

A work in progress. Facilities could use a bit of work but the new bathrooms should make a big difference (feels a bit like a building site at the moment). Free breakfast is a nice touch and certainly much better than some I've had; kitchen is pretty well equipped though cramped. Dorms have nice high ceilings and lockers plenty big...

Stayed in for 2 nights. The hostel has a great location, steps from metro station and downtown. Good and fair rate. It is extremely clean and organized. Nice breakfast, friendly environment and great host - Paul makes everything easier. In the end, it turns out that you fell like staying in your mate's apartment for the weekend. Thank you for...

This is a rare find in Canada - a well-priced, quiet, clean, comfortable & European-esque hostel! One where they haven't crammed 10 beds into a cupboard, there are WINDOWS, the floors/rooms are cleaned daily, the kitchen works for everyone, and you're not surrounded by clubs, drunks and noise. Their are 18 beds split into 3 bright, clean and airy rooms....

I was in Montreal for 3 nights in January 10, and it was a pleasure to stay at the Apero. The best thing about the place is the location. It was a little difficult to find, but it's only about 2 mins walk to Guy Concordia Station, the main shops of Rue st Catherine and lots of bars, restaurants and...

I stayed at this hostel on and off for a month. While I was in Canada I stayed in 4 hostels and this one far exceeds the others. Paul the owner is amazing and has a wicked sense of humour. Cedric makes sure the place is always sparkling clean. Both of these guys are full of information about Montreal, especially...

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Auberge Apéro, a European-style hostel in North America’s most European city, Montréal. Apéro is the French word for aperitif – the beginning of a great meal or in this case – a great vacation. With only 12 beds, we offer a cozy, personalized atmosphere on two floors of an old 1880s graystone with all the amenities you expect from a hostel, and many that you don’t. The rooms are bright with hardwood floors and some interior brick walls that add an air of coziness to the Auberge. The second floor contains the reception area, the store, common rooms, and the laundry. ... more   less
