so terrible. After I paid the expensive residence fee, I moved to the residence and found that there was a loud machine noise in my bedroom for 24 hours. The sound was so loud that I can even hear it in the living room when I closed the bedroom door. I can’t rest in the bedroom, even with earplugs. The staffs said this is normal and I should get used to the noise, but my roommate' bedroom next door doesn't have this noise and it's by no means normal. And I can't cancel the residence. I can only get half of the fee if I move out of the residence, but I have paid the residence and meal plan for one semester. If I knew my room was like this before booking, I would never have paid for it

It is student residence for Algonquin College but in summer they open to public staying. It was quiet when we went and saw some families staying. The building is Resident R and next to parking lot 10 fyi, it was a bit difficult to find at first. There’s a parking lot next to resident but it’s not free. The rooms were clean but the beds are slightly bigger than a double. I did not encounter bed bugs (as previous posts shown) and the halls were clean. The room also had a communal fridge and microwave. No kettle here! Each bed had their own bed. You can check out pictures for better view. We paid about ~ $C 250 for 2 nights which isn’t bad. There’s a plaza with Home Depot, kettleman’s bagels and 24/7 Timmy’s and McDonald’s within 5 min walk. Getting to downtown would require a car since it’s outside downtown Ottawa. Great experience here

It's a dorm essentially! Unfortunately, my room smelled quite bad! And either they didn't have more rooms or they didn't want to change our room! It was a hard to describe smell. Sweat + Cheese + Homeless person. Very much Homeless person smell! They sent a cleaning person who barely spoke English to help; Who just sprayed some aerosol air freshener! Luckily I only had one night there and the smell was mainly in the common area/kitchen and the other bedroom I choose not to sleep in. With the door closed, it was fine. It is right next to a Loblaws, Tim Hortons, Subway, McDonald's and other food! Short drive into downtown Ottawa.

Rooms were okay but no coffee nor drinking cups in rooms. No food facilities on premise. Parking meter was broken for the first two days. Quite far away from any eat-in restaurants. Building feels like converted student dormitories. Changed shower mat and then forgot to replace it.

My friend and I stayed one night at the residence on the August long weekend. Check in time was 4pm. My partner and I arrived at the campus around 2:45. We knew we were early but figured sometimes there is flexibility in check in time, so it was worth a shot. The friendly male at the front desk informed us that because it was a long weekend and they were fully booked, they unfortunately couldn’t check in early. Understandable. He helped me with parking and I had no problems. My friend and I had a long day of travelling so we went and had a nap in the car. At approximately 3:52pm, we walked in again and approached the front desk, thinking 8 minutes before check in might grant us a little grace. Turns out that was very presumptuous, and the young woman at the front desk was very sure to make me feel that way. Before I could even say anything, the young woman said “are you here to check in?” I responded yes, and she very matter-of-factly said “check in is not until 4”. Her tone was very rude, as if she was annoyed by something previously. My friend and a grabbed a seat in the lobby. We watched a few more parties of people walk in and get the same message. At approx 3:55, I joined the queue. I watched the minutes tick towards 4, utterly frustrated that they offered no flexibility in check in. By 3:58, there were 5 or 6 parties (and 10+ people) lined up waiting to check in, and the 3 reception staff continued to stare at their computers and ignore the line. The entire line up was notably frustrated. I understand internal pressures the staff may have been receiving from management/housekeeping to wait until 4pm to begin checking in. What I can’t understand is the mhorrendous customer service from the three young women at the front desk, who continued to ignore the line. I had two thoughts: 1- if the pressure from housekeeping required them to wait until the last second to check in, the organization needs to rethink their operations. Is housekeeping really walking into a room to clean and requiring every last minute to clean it? If so- that is an unfair pressure on the housekeeping staff. 2- the three ladies at the front desk exhibited very poor professional judgement. They must have felt the dozens of frustrated eyes on them. People were waiting. People were scoffing. Tired. Staring at their watches. It was unbelievable. The complete lack of social awareness was so shocking that myself and other customers were turning to one another to complain. The staff completely ignored the long line up, staring aimlessly at their computers and having conversation among themselves. It appeared as if they were purposefully ignoring the line up to prove the point that “check in isn’t until 4pm”. Come on, 4pm is a matter of seconds away. It was shockingly rude. They could have begun serving customers earlier or at the very least acknowledged them. It took the second hand of the clock turning 4:00 for them to begin serving people. It felt like a joke. Staff needs to re-think their priorities and start putting customers first.

This place is awful. Totally misrepresented on websites with images that do not show the very poor condition of the rooms. Basically, if you are backpacking, you’ll be just about ok. The place is far from a ‘Conference Centre’ try Campus instead, more teens running around than a skatepark and the noise! “Oh, we’ve just had two coach loads of students arrive” said the front desk staff, well, shouted to me as I could barely hear much else above this. I know kids can be rude, but the group staying that we encountered excelled in arrogance and impoliteness, how proud their teachers must be. The rooms, well the adverts show a nice but basic room. We expected basic, but clean and as portrayed on the site. Hmmm, possibly when it had just been opened and decorated perhaps. Try conjuring an image of ‘tags’ on the carpet in permanent ink, food or other unmentionable detritus rubbed into the wallpaper, which was just about clinging to the walls, floors in public areas that do not see a vacuum for a while, food dripping in the lifts from where it last came to rest, bags of rubbish outside of rooms in corridors. I could go on, but will include a few images for the discerning reader to make up their own minds. The irony is they wanted $250 for any damage caused. Perhaps they could pay me $250 for cleaning the place up! We left, we would not stay and at the next set of traffic lights as we drove away we saw a young man begging, but I wasn’t even minded to give him the room for the night, I didn’t want to offend him. Go basic by all means, but book a hostel instead. They refused a refund, completely hostile and uncompromising to a genuine complaint.

Thank you for your review, and we are sorry that you choose not to stay with us. You are correct, we are not a hotel but an alternative accommodation provider to traditional hotels, for guests visiting Ottawa, many of whom are budget conscious. We do our best to indicate this via the tools available to us on all platforms we sell, sorry if there was misinterpretation during your booking process. Just like any accommodation provider we cater to all types of guests, the children you probably experienced were more than likely on their elementary school end of year graduation trips and had a hard time containing their excitement; we apologize if their excitement was perceived as “rude” or was an inconvenience to you. We have forwarded your concerns about cleanliness to our operations manager of housekeeping and maintenance for their follow up; we fell short in some areas; likewise one of your photos shows an entire area under repairs due to a new roof currently being installed which you may have noticed when you were here. We are also happy to announce that we have additional capital funds allocated for renovations scheduled for later this summer, which would also address the marking on the carpets you described and photographed. As for the staff at the front desk, we apologize that not providing a refund portrayed them as hostile and uncompromising, this is undoubtedly not how we wish them to viewed. We hope that regardless of your experience with us you enjoyed Ottawa, it is truly a beautiful city.

With no cancelation after 24 hrs prior the hotel was not suitable our choice was pay and stay else where or stay..: with the price, no breakfast and pay parking I suspect you are very close to a regular hotel which would have been more comfortable. At 535 pm the hallways still had sheets laying in them. Rooms are beat up and old. Cleanest thing were the sheets - bought bedding while there

Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the accommodations provided to you. You are correct like many accommodation providers we do have a cancellation policy of 24 hours. Also you are correct breakfast is not a service we provide and there is a small charge for parking. We have forwarded your comments to our operations manager in charge of facilities regarding the sheets in the hallway in the evening. While our rooms are older we are constantly investing capital finds to refurbish them. Thank you again for your review and constructive feedback.

Super basic accommodations (flat-ish pillows, thin sheets one blanket). HOWEVER, the location was really good, was really clean, and has two separate rooms. shopping center is right across the street. Grocery store, food, wine store and my favorite the DOLLARAMA. Parking is five dollars a day however, you might as well get use to paying for parking a lot of places in Ottawa. I would stay here again on my next visit.
