This delightful little place was recommended to us by friend. We have been to Victoria many times but did not know about the JBI. Well wow !!! Just loved the place. Rooms could not be cleaner, the bed was huge and oh so comfy and the pillows were great. At home I am a clean freak for the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom could have been my home bathroom . Fantastically clean and GREAT water pressure etc. A larger bath towel would have been great, however, if that is all I have to complain about then I really don't want to complain. Just loved this place. Will never stay anywhere else when ever we visit Victoria. Definitely definitely gets my vote. The man at the front desk, Hedy, was absolutely amazing and oh so welcoming. Just loved him as were the ladies in the pub (for dinner) and the restaurant (for breakfast). Thank you JBI. We will be back. (Great meals in both pub and restaurant for breakfast. ) June…
Perfect location and very clean! The front desk staff are super helpful and friendly. Parking is included. Breakfast diner downstairs was amazing. Would definitely stay here again! There is no elevator though, so make sure you can handle your luggage up the stairs. We were prepared for this :)
Stayed at the James bay inn for two weeks recently. Staff were amazing in the hotel/restaurant/bar. Cannot fault service in any way or form. The solo Room was just right for what I needed and sure the queen rooms while suitable as well. Nice rustic vibe and chilled atmosphere. Generally very quiet even with pub and restaurant underneath. Food was great. Good local vibe in the pub. Albeit a very retro feel hotel the staff make this place with welcoming and pleasant attitudes, which really feels the extra mile!
My husband and I adore this charming old hotel and recently stayed there for our third time. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, our room clean and comfortable, and the location is terrific, on a fairly quiet street within walking distance of the inner harbor, Beacon Hill Park, and more. We enjoyed having our complementary coffee outside on the shared balcony and watching the carriage horses clip-clop by (we were on the third floor). We can't wait to stay there again!
The location is great, near the harbour. This hotel was quiet and comfortable, a place with a nice character. The pub downstairs was also nice. The front desk staff was very helpful and even helped us when we had an unfortunate problem with our rental car. Thank you !!
This very old (111 years) hotel is a hidden gem not far from the Parliament buildings in Victoria. Found on the internet, it is a delight to stay at if you like the old style hotels. No elevator but the 3 story walk-up is pretty easy. No A/C so not sure I would stay here in the heat of the summer, although fans are provided in every room for comfort. The reception hosts are very friendly and super helpful. The rooms are cozy, nicely painted, and very clean. There is a restaurant and pub located in the building: dinner was good with lots to eat. The pub was a fun experience. We would definitely stay here again.
Staff was so friendly and Hedy suggested several places for us to walk to. Staff was top notch! Beds were very comfortable. Its an old building with no elevator but staff will carry your bags up the stairs for you. Charming lobby with water, tea and coffee served. Best part, its an easy walk to the inner harbor, downtown, and the neighborhood park. Easy morning walk to a few coffee shops as well. Its also on the route for the horse buggies. I would stay again w/o hesitation. Downstairs pub was filled with locals, and has the same menu as the dining room.
We had a nice stay at the charming James Bay inn Hotel. Friendly staff. No air conditioning but there was a fan in our room. There is no elevator which might be a problem for some people. But no air and no elevator is clearly stated on website! Our room was large. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of soft, fluffy towels. Super clean. It’s not a complaint, just a fact. I believe the exhaust fans from the kitchen were outside our bedroom window so at times our room smelled fishy. We found out later that fish was the evening special.
Lovely base for a 3-night stay in Victoria. Our room was very comfortable and clean but hot (thankfully a fan was provided). We had a fridge, tv (which we didn't use) and a huge bathroom with a shower cubicle. The WIFI was also very good. We overlooked the carpark which was mainly quiet. The door to our room had quite a gap under it but a draft-excluder had been provided to block out the light. The hotel itself is in a great location, not far to walk to the harbour area and Beacon Hill Park was just a short stroll away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were on the 3rd floor and the receptionist very happily offered to carry our suitcase up to our room. Tea and coffee is provided each morning in the lobby. It would have been nice to have had this throughout the day. Décor around the hotel is in keeping with its age and sofas are provided along the corridors. Just opposite our room was a balcony that looked out onto the main street. I went out to sit here a couple of times because it was much cooler than our room. It was lovely watching the horse and carriages go by.…
We were one of two couples who shared a cottage (and bathroom) in the grounds of the hotel. We chose to take advantage of the kitchen to make our own breakfasts but enjoyed our meal with a larger group in the James Bay pub one evening. The historic buildings naturally affect the facilities on offer (no lifts or air conditioning) but the warmth of the welcome makes up for it. The easy walk into the centre of Victoria was a wonderful convenience and the James Bay area was a nice place in which to stay.
