From the moment the four of us walked in, "Uncle" Hedy treated us like we were the most important guests he'd had all year. Location and rooms were outstanding, and the food in the pub truly delightful. When I "lost my wallet "on our last day there, Hedy could not do enough to offer sympathy and assistance. We were pretty sure I'd dropped it in one of the stalls in the pub washroom the previous night, and Hedy contact all the staff on duty then, and checked everywhere for the wallet. Two weeks after we left and continued our Island tour, he found the wallet in an obscure place under our bed. He called our home phone many times to no avail, and then emailed us. A happy reunion with Hedy and the wallet was accomplished on our last day on the Island. We HIGHLY recommend this Inn!!…
We have stayed at the James Bay Inn a few times before when visiting family. There is always a great sense of being welcomed. The location to downtown and the inner harbour is perfect for walking and exploring. This time we noticed that renovations have recently been completed ie carpeting, painting and new hand rails going up the stairs. The rooms and the hotel, in general, are very clean with good amenities. The restaurant and separate pub are also very good. We will definitely stay again.
We enjoyed our 3-day stay at The James Bay Inn. The room was spotless and it was a fabulous central location. The on-site restaurants were very convenient. We want to commend the person at the night desk on Tuesday June 21 who was very helpful when we registered. At first we were disappointed about not being able to keep our folding bikes in the room. But he was reassuring about the safety of the bike storage area (we had new bikes and had yet to buy locks, so we were nervous) and he offered several helpful suggestions. We felt he went the extra mile to make sure we felt comfortable about leaving them. It was much appreciated. -- Wendy and David
The location was perfect for anyone who doesn't mind a short walk. Within walking distance of the harbour, Empress Hotel and downtown shops and restaurants. Beacon Hill Park is right across the road and is a beautiful park with gardens and very friendly peacocks! The Inn itself was very clean with friendly staff. Our room was a little odd with a sink next to the bed, but it came in handy. Our king bed was very comfortable and it was quiet so we had a great nights sleep.
Very helpful and accommodating staff. Nice rooms and lots of character. Everything clean and as advertised. We especially appreciated use of storage area as we arrived with a bike and some dripping wet gear. Definitely think location was a bonus to easy access to downtown with free parking.
This gem of a hotel is in James Bay, an outstanding neighbourhood for its architecture and history. (Google the James Bay Heritage Walking Tour for a self-guided tour map.) The hotel is a short and pleasant walk away from the Legislature, the harbour, Carr House museum and the enchanting Beacon Hill Park, plus the bus to Butchart Gardens stops just down the street. The staff are welcoming, helpful, and kind to the guests and to each other. Try the breakfast skillets; tasty, ample, and reasonably priced.
The building is very old. So it seems as though your stepping numerous decades back in time. But it's a nice place, infact I think the buildings age should add to it's alure. And because of the buildings age, it should come as no surprise there's no elevator there. Tho rooms are clean and comfy. And the bed was comfortable. I slept well. It's near the downtown, but the neighborhood is quiet. And the staff there were friendly and inviting from arrival to departure. The restaurant is a bit more reasonably priced than others, and the food is good. The pub was lots of fun too. I would recommend it for a stay.
Lovely older hotel. Staff were really friendly and helpful and they recognized me. Stairs and more stairs, but they are transparent about that. Room was exactly as described. Comfortable new mattress, nice bathroom and shower. Restaurant was decent and the pub was very enjoyable. I'll come back here.
This hotel was in an ideal location for our trip to Victoria and was a beautiful building. The restaurant was the best place for breakfast we went to (food was great, service was great, food came quick and best price around). Only downside was the room seemed to be on a slant which made the bed uncomfortable however, being an old building was part of the charm.
I had the pleasure of staying at the James Bay Inn.The rooms are old. But simple and clean with lots of Windows for the morning light. Within walking distance of all that Victoria has to offer. The restaurant has a limited menu but the food is fresh, good and reasonably priced. Courtney my server was wonderful. The staff at this establishment is friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
