We stayed at the Sylvia for a total of 8 days, coming and going during a trip to B.C. On our way back to Vancouver, thinking about soon arriving at the Sylvia, I felt like I was coming home. We had a one bedroom apartment which was roomy. It looked out over English Bay and, it being June, we had...

I love your header "felt at home", whenever a hotel gets compared to home we must be doing something right. The location is great for all the reasons you mentioned. The kitchen units we offer are great for those guests wanting to stay more than a few days, it helps keep the costs down from eating out every meal during...

Stayed here for a week in June. The location is actually what makes this hotel. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, though very dated. However, we didn't have any WiFi service for the whole week,(on the 2nd floor) the walls are thin so depending on who is next to you it can be noisy and the carpets were badly...

Thank-you for staying with us and sharing your opinion about your stay. We hope you will return again so we can serve you again. I was disappointed that you think the hotel is run down and smelly as other guests do not share your views about the cleanliness of the hotel.

I stayed there from Jul 13th (Checked in on 14th due to flight arriving late) and checked out on Jul 16th 2015. The hotel is located in a great location with beautiful views. And it definitely has a charm about it. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I have two main complaints about the hotel. The biggest one was the...

Thank-you for your comments and I will look into the wifi issues you mentioned. We have a 96.7 % great rating with the wifi and I do hear of the occasional issue which we are working on in a small number of areas in the hotel that the single is weaker at times. Our thec company is aware and is...

The Sylvia Hotel is in a Great Location. Walk out the hotel, you are surrounded by Stanley Park, English Bay, innumerable small, local and reputable restaurants, cafes, public transit, a few steps away- a supermarket, and even a community centre (10 minute walk). For me, it was way better than the hotels downtown that are surrounded by towering buildings, huge...

I love a well written review, you seemed to cover off what most guests would like to know, the location is convenient and close to everything including the transit system. we do not have AC but like you mentioned all the windows open and keep the room cool with fresh air and fans are provided in every room. I was...

The best thing about the Sylvia Hotel is the location. Across the street from Sunset Beach and next to Stanley Park, guests have access to the best of Vancouver. The hotel was originally an apartment complex. We stayed in a king suite and it offered plenty of room for our family of 3. The rooms are rather dated and the...

Thank-you for staying at the Sylvia Hotel and taking the time to write a few words. I appreciate you mentioning my staff and the service they offer. Nice old hotel with history great location and just the right amount of funkiness. Near Stanley Park and many shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant and bar was very convenient for quick drink or dinner if you didn't want to venture out.

You said it all in your header, "good location fair price and historic". Thank-you for staying with us and taking the time to write a review. Our first visit to Vancouver and how pleased we were with the hotel. Full of character and in a lovely position in front of the beach and near to Stanley Park. A nice old hotel with a lot of character and charm. A little tired but the charm of the hotel and good service make it a nice hotel to stay. No air conditining or screens on the window, so it is up to you if you will open the windows and risk bugs coming into the room. Overall a great...

The Sylvia remains the most homey, comfortable and down to earth hotel. Yep, she is old but she has style and service in spades. And of course the location, with a wonderful bar, right on English Bay can't be beat. The Sylvia is my favourite hotel stay in Vancouver.

I like short reviews that say a lot. Thank-you for taking time to write a review and post it on this site. Saying that the Sylvia is your favorite hotel also says a lot as Vancouver has so many hotels. I also believe that tis is a special place. We hope that you will return soon and often.

The Sylvia has a premier location in the West End. There are other hotels around Denman St. comparably prices (Best Western, Coast Plaza, Times Square Suites), but the Sylvia has the best location - on the beach and adjacent to the seawall. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
