This quaint and well kept "heritage building" is located in the west end of Vancouver over looking scenic English Bay and within close and walking proximity of Stanley Park, Granville Island and many diverse and ethnic eateries. We chose the Sylvia because it's "dog friendly". Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and equipped with a very comfortable king bed. The...

Our location is often mentioned because we are so close to shopping, restaurants and transportation to the rest of the city. We are pet friendly and have been since 1960, I believe we are still the only hotel in the city that does not charge extra for pets when other hotels charge $25-30.00 per night for pets. We see pets...

Classy old hotel on English Bay, west end. Walking distance from Stanley Park. Good food. Loved drinks on the patio at sunset. We went in August and no air conditioning made the room a bit stuffy but otherwise wonderful place to stay.

'Perfect location" nice header, our patio is very popular with locals and hotels guest for the food and views, (sunsets from the patio in summer are fantastic) you are correct, we do not have AC however most of our Guests comment how much they love the fact that the windows open and the fresh air is so much better than...

Sylvia Hotel on English Bay in the west end of Vancouver has an interesting history that is proudly displayed in the halls with old pictures. Hotel has had a recent refurbishment without loosing all of its old world charm. No exercise room or pool but the water is just across the street and inviting if you don't mind a 'refreshing...

We are a heritage site over 104 years old and still serving satisfied guests. I am sure that the Great location has something to do with that, but I think the value and service is what guests appreciate most. Thank-you for staying with us and please tell your friends how much you enjoyed your stay.

Stayed one night here after being recommended it. The situation is perfect, overlooking English Bay, with a lovely walk to Stanley Park. The reception desk is very welcoming and they were helpful, giving me a discount voucher for the Aquarium. The room was large and very comfortable but sadly I didn't have a view of the bay. The shower wasn't...

Welcoming staff, I agree with your comment as well as our location are often mentioned in these reviews. Only some rooms have full views of English Bay, (wish all rooms had a view). Breakfasts are popular with locals ad hotel guests, the Vancouver police often have their meal breaks at the hotel as well for the service and value. September...

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Sylvia. It is the iconic Vancouver hotel, a landmark on English Bay for decades. The rooms are small, basic, but nicely appointed, clean and with all of the touches you need, just in a smaller space. The employees who greet you and the ones who send you off: very helpful, efficient and...

We had a great stay at the Sylvia........best location on English Bay, near Stanley Park and other places of interest.... Vancouver Aquarium, Capilano Bridge, Sea to Sky ...and walking on the beach....located near fine restaurants & cafes, but the best dining was in the hotel itself.........Breakfast (AWESOME) Dinner (GREAT) with good service. And what a nice view while you dine!...

I often read how great our location is, many guest write that very comment because it is true. We do have the best location in the city. What I was pleased to read is your great comments about the Food and Beverage department. I will pass them on to the Chef and Food and Beverage crew as they love to...

Booked my elderly parents into the Sylvia as an anniversary present, and it was great.we all live locally. ..but due to various health issues my parents have not been able to get away recently. So motivated by a wedding downtown thought a night in a hotel would be a good break, not mention less driving on our part. We had...

I was very happy to read that you were able to book a room for you're parents for their anniversary. If you are looking for modern amenities (fitness room, air conditioning, ice machine on every floor), you might be happier staying elsewhere. If you are looking for a funky classic hotel, in a funky Vancouver neighborhood, directly across the street from the beach and adjacent to Stanley Park, the Sylvia is your place. We stayed during a July heat wave,...

We will take your advice and "never change" it has worked for us for over 104 years so why mess with success? All of your comments are fair and in fact I tell people that not everyone will appreciate what the Sylvia Hotel has to offer but with that being said we are one of the busiest hotels in Vancouver...

We stayed here for a week for the first time since 2004, when we briefly stayed on a family holiday. The Sylvia was still as we remembered it, quirky, slightly shabby chic, but that is what gives it it's charm, and above all the best position in the city. The staff - especially Rick were all extremely polite, helpful and...

WOW, what a great header and comments. Welcome back and thank-you for staying with us for the week. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
