My husband & I stayed here for two nights in July. First the positive - the house is in a nice & quiet neighborhood with a Starbucks, a bar/restaurant just down the block and public transportation nearby. Now, the negatives - we checked in and was taken to our room, given 2 thin towels & that was that. We were...

I gave this a POOR rating over TERRIBLE, because at least the location was okay and close to public transit and a Starbucks. Contrary to their name and active websites, they do NOT serve a hot breakfast; instead, just coffee and two pieces of dry toast. When I emailed them to inquire, they stated that their website is old, but...

I stayed here during the low season and the place was just a dream. Although the housekeeper didn't speak much english she was extremely nice and helpful. The price was crazy low compared to the competition in the area and I loved the quaint feel of this place. Would stay again and again!!

We ignored the previous reviews on the property because it seemed really well priced and had good pics, but I strongly suggest you do not do the same. In fact, spend whatever it takes to stay elsewhere. Listen, the location is no doubt very good, but this place really should not be in business as a B & B....they should...

booked a room with private bath, arrived to find my room had only a shared bath (with 4 others) which turned out to be a tub with a hand held shower head , no stopper, no bath the heating for the house (old radiators) were not working, therefore the house itself was very cold and damp, each room had a...

If you like old huge Victorian Villas, quite green surroundings (a lovely garden), fantastic staff, decent breakfasts, individually decorated rooms (many with old original details) - and good price for all this - then The Balfour Inn is your place! We are amazed! Its like coming home to you´re loving aunt, that takes care of you and really really likes...

I don't like the fuss and bother of downtown hotels, not to mention the cost. The house is old and lovely and the surrounding area is quiet and beautiful. It's a quick walk to VGH and transit is just down a half block with Starbucks on the corner. My bed was super comfy and the room clean. The common bathroom...

I had the hilarious pleasure of staying at the Balfour Inn Vancouver recently. It can only be described as Fawlty Towers of the north, which I am sure the owners would laugh at. Staff often don't have a clue, literally, of what is going on and guests can't understand them, leading to some very entertaining moments of total miscommunication -...

Terrible mattress (could feel the springs), musty smell and mould growing in our basement suite room. Window won't open to ventilate for fresh air. Staff are friendly and rooms clean. However, lodging places must have decent mattress, ventilation and clean smell (without mould) before I would want to stay. We had booked two nights but checked out after one night...

Its not one of those fancy hotel, but it is very nice and clean. Its right in the middle of the city and BC Children's hospital was just a stone throw away. Staff was very thoughtful and nice. Will surely recommend to go!

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighbourhood Profile
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
