The Fairmont Palliser boasts a prime location that guests have frequently praised for being close to downtown attractions, along with a grandiose and historic atmosphere that many find luxurious. While the hotel's cleanliness and professional service are often commended, some travelers have called out inconsistencies in room decor and noted issues with noise.
The amenities, including the Gold Floor, spa, and pool, are popular, though opinions on value and specific room features can be mixed. Despite these mixed reviews, the hotel's charm and amenities continue to draw guests.

Hotel's Favourite
My daughter and I just enjoyed a quick 2-day getaway at the Palliser this weekend and all I can say is WOW.
For two seconds of backstory, my husband and I are expecting our 4th baby in March (yes, you read that right) and so before I’m once again up to my eyeballs in diapers and milk cloths, my 8-year-old and I thought it would be fun to have one last fancy hurrah somewhere close to home.
From the moment we walked into the hotel we knew we were somewhere special. The ambiance, the décor… all beautifully ornate yet still very comforting. What really impressed me the most was the unforgeable service we received throughout our stay, especially on the Gold Floor. Simply put, we were treated like family. Karandeep in reception and Kathy in the Gold Lounge were two of the most welcoming and accommodating individuals that I have ever met in the service industry. A sincere thanks to both of you for making our stay unforgettable.
I also wanted to thank Neha (the Fairmont Gold supervisor) for upgrading us to such an extraordinary room. The Heritage Suite is truly a room fit for a king or queen… and by some miracle we got to stay in there as well. If you haven’t seen pictures online, I implore you to look them up… because no words can truly do it justice. I suppose the only downside to all of this is that after staying is such an amazing suite, everything else now looks second best. Thanks for ruining us!! But moreso, thank you all so much for such a memorable weekend – till next time!

I stayed two nights at the Fairmont just a few weeks before Christmas. I've got a soft spot for unique, classic hotels with charm. Having spent a significant amount of time at The Algonquin Resort (formally a Fairmont) during Christmas time, I had high expectations for this grand old hotel. The Palliser did not disappoint. The Christmas trees and decorations along with the lights were perfect and exactly what I was hoping for.
The Staff at the hotel were excellent. I arrived at the hotel at approximately 11AM, was greeted by the valet and brought to the front desk. I was given an upgraded room right away and the lady working at the front desk helped locate my old Fairmount rewards ID (I had trouble trying to change it over to the new Accor rewards).
The room was King Room with a view of the Calgary Tower. The room was clean, well appointed for the room type and price. Elevators were fast.
These old hotels have such great history, Fairmont has done a good job of keeping its old world charm; even the little details like the mail slots at the elevator banks on each floor are neat and only found in that era hotel across Canada. If you'd like to learn a little history about the hotel, there is a small display with pictures, information and receipts from the original construction of the hotel, on the pool/gym/spa level.
I visited the gym both days, it was small however, adequate. It's likely best to visit during off peak times.
The lobby and restaurant bar area are great, busy, yet inviting and the bartender was friendly and attentive.
The valet was excellent (I wrote down the valets name, however lost the paper at some point when I arrived home). The gentleman working Dec 3rd & 4th during the day was extremely attentive, he addressed me by name and offered water each time I picked up my vehicle. They moved quickly each morning to bring it up and have it ready when I walked outside. Small things like addressing me by my name and offering water may seem insignificant to most or even a bit shallow, however it makes you feel like they care about your business and care about your comfort during your stay and that makes up for the little mistake/issues that may arise when staying at an older property like this.

Visited with my girlfriend for our anniversary and wow was I ever disappointed. This is the loudest hotel ever. The doors are paper thin it doesn’t matter if you’re on the railroad side or the street side you’re waking up when housekeeping makes their rounds. The housekeeping obviously tried their best to stay quiet but you could hear every single sound. The room service menu was extremely overpriced and on top of that they tack on a “delivery fee” for some one to ride up an elevator. The room was smaller than my closet and felt like a sauna, don’t bother trying to turn the temperature down, it won’t make a difference. Our shower tap was loose or broken and wouldn’t stay in an upward position, gravity would always force it downward. So you only had a choice of unbearably hot or freezing cold. I thought by booking at a fairmont everything would be top notch. Wow was I ever wrong. The duvet didn’t have a proper cover it was wrapped in a sheet, so you were sleeping with a bare duvet after the first time you’d roll over. Not even a water bottle in the room or a bag for the unwashed ice buckets. No parking. Extremely disappointed. Will not return. I’d honestly have had better stays at a super 8. I’d rate it as a 2 but i’ll give it a 3 for its great location.

The service was poor . Yes lots of servers milling around but our table waited at least fifteen minutes for pre luncheon drinks. My cutlery and side plate was removed after I had my salad and never returned for buffet even after request so just went to another set table to get items. Coffee carafe carelessly dumped on table without even a first pour. My husband simply gave up on getting his water refilled after waving down a server twice.was not even half full and no wonder.Buffet very average. Billing was incorrect. Highly recommend that you avoid as cost with automatic tip added is pricy for such poor service. Shame Fairmont.

Stayed with family the week prior to Christmas and the decorations and Christmas theme made it feel really special. The pool and sauna are nice, the restaurant was just ok. The parking is a huge hassle and with such weird logistics downtown.
With a family in tow, lots of luggage, a clustered front door city street and an expensive parking garage with a long hike, elevator and stairs to the foyer; more should be done to help regular traveler's who dont wish to pay for valet parking.
About the restaurant: The first morning we were seated way in the back by the buffet, away from any other guests and the nice atmosphere of the main dining area. It took a long while for service and when the one dish arrived (think breakfast parfait in a fancy bowl) my wife realized they had garnished it with dill?!? She is too polite to send it back but it was just one of those defining moments when you realize that it's not quite the finished experience you expect it to be, nor what you pay for. The next morning we requested to be seated at the front main dining area and it was much more pleasant. The scrambled eggs were terrible (buffet tray style) but otherwise everything met the mark.
The room was nice facing the city. One of the bathroom sink tap handles fell off but was quickly fixed. The only other gripe I had were the multiple charges to my credit card from the point of booking to the check out. There were several random charges that added up to the expected total but were never reflective of either the room rate, meals charged to the room, or incidentals. Very confusing.
All in all you get what you expect with the aging Fairmont property who rely on their key words, historic, rustic, atmosphere in order to appear high class. In reality this is just a play on perception. Decent rates can be found and the experience is what you make of it but I would never pay full price.

Now I booked this hotel month's ago from the UK through 'Accor Rewards' I thought it was a 4* hotel, (by UK standards) but it's actually by my standards a 5* hotel. Soon as you get to the front steps, you are welcomed by the porters, then inside you are welcomed again by the reception staff, all very friendly, attentive and thoughtful. Everything from floors, to restaurant, to rooms, etc were all spotless, even the house maids were pleasant and friendly..... Well worth a stay if you visit Calgary..

The Palliser is well located - next door to the Calgary Tower and around the city center. Rooms are well appointed and service varies from acceptable to good. I opted to add on the lounge experience, it offered reasonable breakfast (including reasonably early opening hours) sweets in the evening, and a reasonable selection of beverages. Service was not good day 1 but improved markedly with a bit more assertiveness. I found the room a bit dated, but reasonably spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The thermostat was not very responsive, and this might be an issue for folks who prefer to sleep in a room that is particularly cool or warm. The housekeeping staff were especially helpful and friendly, the staff at the hotel entrance and reception desk were less helpful but never brusque or rude. Overall I recommend this hotel for any traveler who likes a traditional property, with all the amenities that implies.

The nicest part of our stay was the dinner we had at the Hawthorn Dining Room. The food was delicious and our server was outstanding. From that point on, our 2 night stay was very disappointing. The freight trains run by the back of the hotel all night long which woke us up repeatedly. The breakfast we were encouraged to upgrade to on the top floor is an unimaginative, cold and a tasteless poor excuse for a buffet. $60 per person? We were so disappointed that we immediately asked for our money back and cancelled the second morning of eating there. Honestly, Tim Horton's would be better than that slop. We moved to a second room at the front of the hotel to escape the train noise and it was a broom closet. What was meant to be a romantic weekend of relaxation came up woefully short and the hotel takes the brunt of the blame. I will never stay there again. Hotel Arts is so much better in so many ways.

We pulled up and were greeted immediately, having the car door opened for us as we stepped out, our luggage whisked away, all we had to do was get ourselves to the front desk. The beautiful lobby did not disappoint with beautiful chandeliers and elegance all around us. The service was impeccable, so much so that we changed our dinner plans and decided to eat at the in house restaurant.
Our room was lovely, unfortunately zero view, but that’s ok. Dinner was whole other experience. We expected continued luxury and elegance into the Dining room, but unfortunately the dining room was in complete disconnect from the elegance and history of the rest of the hotel. The decor was tacky, the menu hugely disappointing with very few realistic and real people options. Presentation is so overrated and overpriced. The most expensive fries I’ve ever had. Then to add to the “ambiance” , listening to Gangsters Paradise as you’re trying to have a romantic dinner. What a disappointment to say the least. Zero class and beyond tacky. Someone needs to reclaim the dining room and bring it back to the elegance and class that is Fairmont. Get rid of your overpriced chef and hire one from the Keg.

Great hotel with a luxury feel. Beautiful historic building, great staff, clean rooms and super room service. Parking is available at $45 for Valet parking who are very helpful and prompt; or you can park at the Parkade (garage) which is attached to the building at $31.50 per night if you get in after 6 pm.
Rooms get serviced daily and I think the bedding gets steamed since it is always wrinkle-free.
Gym and steam rooms are nice. I didn't use the pool but it very nice. It is a Spa so you have plenty of robes, towels and lockers.
I will definitely stay again!
