Celebrated my dad's 70th birthday with a family trip to Shadow Lake Lodge in July 2016. Our group of 6 took 4.5 hrs to complete a leisurely hike up to the lodge. There is a great spot for lunch on the wide banks of a...More

Short version: a pricey but worthwhile back-country experience. Booked two late-August nights at Shadow Lake Lodge. We hiked in on the popular Red Earth Creek trail—a moderate 14-km hike that took us roughly four hours including a brief stop for lunch (we are a fairly...More

Hi. Wondering about the hike to SL - my understanding is that it is doable on a bike or via hike, is this correct? If so, wondering how difficult it is to bike? We are not expert mountain bikers - would be renting bikes in Banff.

You are able to bike the first 12km on the Redearth trail, then you must lock your bikes and hike the last 2km. You will gain 1500' on this trail, there are a few good hills, but the trail itself is not challenging.

Hi! If we wanted hike in via one route but out another route do you have a recommendation for a shuttle service that will take us between the two points? Ideally we would do that on the way in so that on the way out our car would be waiting for us...but I have not been able to find anyone who seems to do this in the region? I was thinking of hiking in on the Vista-Arnica Lake route and out the Redearth trail if possible.

Our hiking group is considering the Lodge for our August trip and was wondering how many people can be accommodated in the various rooms for the rates listed on the website?

Thank you for your inquiry. Most cabins can sleep 4 people (2 beds per cabin). A few cabins can also accommodate an additional cot to sleep a 5th person.
