This is not my first review on this excellent establishment. This is a great pub in a nice place with an agreeable atmosphere, respectable food and nice staff. I am a not sure about the children being able to sit on one side of the line but not another but I take this as an acceptable quirk that is not...

We know this as my husband used to work at the Peacock at Rowsley. 3 pieces of chicken in my pie, so that's 3 mouthfuls of sour chicken, not filling or tasty. None of the other meals we had were much better, very dry. After complaining the staff were lovely and couldn't do enough to help. A women who I...

Not normally one to leave reviews but felt I had to in this case. Went to Poets for food tonight with my family, everything was excellent. Amazing food and service! All 6 of us were extremely happy with our food and couldn't fault anything! Only thing to let it down was the table of 4 next to us who complained...

The food was excellent but was it worth the wait? When we arrived it was clear they had overbooked. We were seated and other diners told us they had been waiting an hour for their food. We had booked for 8pm, we were given a menu at 8.20pm and recieved our food at 9.20pm. Not really acceptable. Even though the...

We popped in this afternoon (3.30pm Saturday), post dog walk for some lunch with our six year old. Told because we have a child we were to sit in one corner on one of three tables...which were all full. Other tables free elsewhere, and our dog was able to sit wherever suited him, but not the child. What a shambles...

Good all round choice of real ales, some brewed on the premises,(pity it could not be cheaper, due to this) good food, and good hard working staff, who are knowledgeable of the beers they sell. Car park is in urgent need of repair, it is potholed and uneven, and not well lit at night, and quite a challenge, in daylight...

Booked a private dining room. Very Good Carvery [ just for us ]. Many and varied vegetables...some served alongside the meat ; some self-service. I was glad i didn't choose stuffed mushroom to start off with. It was literally one small mushroom! Instead the Soup Tureen was absolutely excellent : hot and flavoursome soup, with warm bread. Not an overstaffed...

We visited in mid December and chose off of the Christmas menu, the stuffed mushroom was ok but the turkey dinner was awful, the turkey was dry and tasted as though it had been cooked a couple of days ago, the veg was fresh if very under cooked, new potatoes in skins were very hard (to be honest I think...

The Old Poets' Corner has a lovely bar area and a good selection of beers. The one waitress on duty was lovely, altho' overworked. That's the good stuff out of the way. On the day we visited, having - as a party of eleven - pre-ordered our meals some weeks previously, we found that: the staff had not acted on...
