This family run hostel/motel might not be the newest and flashiest out there, but the warm and cozy atmosphere made it one of our favorite stays after four months in NZ. Especially the lovely Keiko made our stay memorable, always smiling and wanting to help. They had brand new crash pads for us to use while bouldering in Castle Hill...

This place was nice enough but the staff were rude enough to prevent me from coming back. If you want a nice place with a relaxed vibe, go down to Springfield motel and lodge instead. There are plenty of other options.

If you're looking for a quiet and cosy place, this is it. Springfield is a quiet town in itself and this hostel, situated just across the railway and a short distance to the Atomic Shuttle pickup point, offers a convenient and comfortable stopover if you're enroute to Arthur's Pass/ Christchurch. The owners Colin and Keiko are very friendly. Keiko said...

2 nights in a quiet large upstairs double room with a really comfy bed. it really didn't matter that we had to share bathroom and toilets with other guests. The hosts, Colin and Keiko are very welcoming and the facilities are amazing. The vegetarian japanese style dinner we enjoyed for only $25 per person was delicious course after course following each...

Stayed in the motel room with a small kitchen attached to the room. Room is spacious with a big toilet. Heater needs to be improve to warm the room during winter. The lounge is beautiful and will want to try on the accommodation again when we are back.

Very dated musty sort of place needs a good airing but the kitchen is the most well stocked hostel kitchen I've ever seen! Bathrooms are modern, clean and good hot water and shower pressure. Very friendly, welcoming couple running it. Big downside is that we paid more for not being a YHA member then got no access to wifi whereas...

We were at the hostal twice. The second time we came because we were again in the region and we remembered that the place had been so nice, cosy and friendly. The place is quiet, has a big lounge with a wood burner and tons of books. Moreover, it's one of the few places were you can expect a piano...

Visited location and was greeted by the most unfriendly member of staff, described as a middle aged or older male who was very tall wearing a red shirt, he had poor communication and welcoming skills. Using the YHA brand as a marketing tool, severely let's then down. Stop and think about how you treat people when they walk through the...

We arrived at Smylies after a long drive from franz josef glacier and we wished we'd carried on to Christchurch instead! We booked it through the YHA expecting that any affiliates would be tested and reviewed regularly to ensure they are keeping up to the standards that the YHA are known for, "quality accommodation for travelers" being their slogan. This...

A friend and I were on a motorcycle ride when the winds picked up and rain was coming down in sheets. We cut our day short and were just hoping for a warm, dry place to stay, and this place delivered. The main communal room of this yha is a huge study/kitchen/library complete with thousands of books, a rustic pot-bellied...
