The Sentrim Mara Lodge is located right next to the Masai Mara National Park. In just a few minutes after crossing the river by car, you are already in the savannah and can see animals.
The house itself has a double electricity system with solar power and generator power. However, the generator is only on for certain hours. With this complicated system, I kept plugging the kettle or charger into the wrong sockets, which caused the fuse to blow. I found that quite uncomfortable. But I found the bed very luxurious, with a large mosquito net. Despite the tent walls, you feel fairly safe from insects. The pool is relatively small, but it's an option. There are a lot more cats romping around the property, emptying the trash cans and climbing over the roofs. The garden is nice and shady, but has few flowers. WiFi is only available in the small reception room. Omelettes are freshly prepared for breakfast, as well as other egg dishes. But otherwise there is not much to eat with bread, neither cheese nor ham.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A hairdryer can be borrowed from reception, the price of wine is quite expensive.

Great low cost accommodation just inside the Masai Mara gates and very near a Masai Mara camp. There are some amazing game drives with a short drive, including all the big five and many more animals - particularly predators.
The tented accommodations are basic but adequate and clean and tidy. Guest security is well managed
Staff are attentive and friendly and food is basic but well prepared and tasty.
The bar staff, waiters and all employers are helpful and engaging.

We had a lovely stay in Sentrim Mara in June. The tents were comfortable but did tend to get cold at night. The food was not varied but hot and tasty. They always had guards patrolling the paths leading from the restaurant to the tents at night and that felt safe.
The only reason to give it one less star was the management policy of providing just one bottle of drinking water per room, with no option of refilling our bottles. The three of us were supposed to share that and buy whatever we needed beyond that at outrageous prices. But since we had already experienced this the hard way in the Sentrim Amboseli property, we were prepared and stocked up on enough water prior to reaching the lodge. The management really need to reconsider this policy - water is a basic need and not providing it leaves one with a sour taste.

It was “very wild” compared to other sentrim accommodation.
In the night time there is no light (only one plug in the room will work)
The staff is very friendly and helpful, buffet is continental. Room is very spacious, although the roof is made of coconut leaves, no water was linking even with the rain.

Room Tip: We stayed by the pool only about 20 minutes because of the tight scheduled and the cloudy weather.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The front desk staff, specifically the woman up front was extremely rude. When we arrived they put us in a room with holes in The mosquito netting. We asked to change and the woman told us we could change the next day. When we returned early that day she lied to us and told us there was nothing open when we saw at least 10 open keys. She just didn’t want to change us. While we were talking to her she was making very judgmental faces at us and was extremely rude.
We also never had our room cleaned. The towels were wet when we got there and they didn’t give us new towels while we were there.
Wifi does not work!
The only good thing about this place was the nice chef who was very accommodating and friendly.

Lodge very well located at the entrance to the park but still in the middle of the reserve. We pass a real Masai village to get there and go on Safari.
There is also a stream to pass which can turn into a torrent in the event of a storm (to pass by car this can be complicated).
The tents are very spacious and comfortable, the bedding perfect. You may have the opportunity to hear hyenas at night.
On the other hand, no internet in the rooms, electricity and hot water only from 6 p.m. and until 7 a.m.
You must ask for a hair squid at reception if necessary.
The water in the pool is not very warm (normally it is cool in the morning and at night), pool towels are provided but the deckchairs are not very comfortable.
The restaurant terrace was under construction (very unpleasant noise), wifi accessible at the swimming pool.
Due to the work, we were almost locked in darkness for meals.
The cocktails are not good, the wine is expensive compared to other establishments and the food is really average.
We wanted to have an aperitif in the small lounge at the reception, we asked for the drinks menu, we never got anything! So we went straight to dinner!
But all the same it remains a very good memory and good value for money due to its location and the tents.

It was our first stop on safari, and we enjoyed it a lot. Our tent was quite big, and brilliantly thought out, we had plenty of space for everything. The bonfire they lit every night was quite nice and welcome. The food was OK, and the service was great, and prompt - even the odd power outage one night didn't stop or put a damper on the dinner service.
Well, that. I have the impression that those occur quite frequently. Don't let yourselves put out by that, but you absolutely need to have a flashlight with you. The one that could be fixed on your head is best, as you might need to have your hands free for packing.
It definitely added to my sleep quality to hear a lion roar at 5 am.

In Sentrim Masai Mara we found ourselves for the first time in a tent like this, which was a great experience. Since it is located inside of the park, electricity is on only a few hours a day (same as WiFi, which is only available in common areas). After dark, you will get escorted to your tent to ensure your safety against any wild animals and guards are always present near pathways.
There was a little confusion about card payment, as the front desk first informed us it will be possible, but later a different member of staff did not want to take cards. However, in the end it was accepted.

+1
We stay at this lodge located right outside the Masai Mara for 3 nights. Most of their employees are local Maasai tribespeople. Our tent cabin was very nice with mosquito netting that wasn’t needed during our stay. Electricity is provided via generator from 5-9am and 6-10:30 pm so bring a flashlight for the nights. If you need to charge a device outside those times, you can leave it at the front desk where they always have electricity. Our only issue in the room was an inability to regulate the water temperature. It fluctuated between too hot and too cold with even the slightest change of position. The pool area is nice although we thought the water was too cold to linger in. Meals in the restaurant were pretty good with a number of Indian dishes served at each meal.

Response from Mary Nthenya, Agency / Consultant at Sentrim Mara Lodge
Responded 18 Oct 2023
Dear Ksufan, Thank you for sharing your experience from your 3-night stay at our lodge just outside the Masai Mara. We're delighted to hear that you appreciated the local Maasai tribespeople who are a significant part of our team. Your feedback about the tent cabin with mosquito netting is valuable. We understand the importance of electricity and appreciate your suggestion of bringing a flashlight for the nights. Leaving devices at the front desk is a helpful solution. We apologize for the water temperature issue, and we will work on improving this aspect. It's good to know that you enjoyed the pool area, even though the water was a bit too cold to linger in. The variety of Indian dishes in the restaurant is something we take pride in, and we're glad you found the meals to be pretty good. We hope to have the pleasure of hosting you again in the future, and if you have any further comments or preferences for your next visit, please don't hesitate to reach out. Kind regards, Unit Manager Sentrim Mara

This lodge is located 5 minutes behind the gate within the park boundaries in the immediate vicinity of Masai villages.
The facility is a bit older but our tent was relatively new and well equipped. We particularly liked the large mosquito net over the bed, which made it easy to move around. The shower takes some getting used to, you can either shower cold or scalding hot. It is practically impossible to choose between the two. The sanitary facilities were generally in good condition and clean.
Every evening and morning you are accompanied by security on the way to/from dinner.
The food was typical of the country with a good selection. Everything is very tasty, there is nothing to complain about here. Only the dining room was a bit small and dated.
The service is very good, as almost everywhere on our trip. The staff are extremely friendly, courteous and respond very quickly. A lot of effort is made to meet the guests' wishes.
In conclusion, you can easily spend 1-2 nights in the lodge. It is not breathtaking but completely OK and acceptable. Another positive aspect are the short, albeit very bumpy, routes directly into the Masai Mara.
