We just got back from a week at Club Med Ixtapa (our first Club Med experience) and the entire family could not be happier. We have a 8 and 6 year old. From the moment we landed until the moment we left the Club Med...More
Just returned from our first trip to Ixtapa and Club Med and we can't stop talking about it! This was by far the best "Family Vacation" that we have done, and everyone in the family had a great time.

View from the terrace of restaurant.
Excellent food. Buffets with limited choice but fast moving dishes; we did not suffer from the tourista we frequently get in Mexico.
Nicely presented dishes, if you...More

Yes, the resort exchanges currency but the rate isn't that great. We found locals preferred pesos more than the US dollar, so we exchanged at home, but ran out and found it better to go to a local Mexican bank (take a taxi) to exchange more for best rate. I'd say as far as packing, plan cool, breathable and active clothing options. It was quite hot and humid and we wound up changing often after active activities, so extra clothes or maybe even detergent to wash may be a good idea. Bring an all white outfit for white night, something tropical, neon colored, Mexican colored, to go along with weekly themes. This is optional of course. If you have kids bring a backpack for them to keep sun block, a hat, bathingsuit, change of clothes, if they will be going to mini club. Also bring a plain white t- shirt for them to tie dye on Friday.
Have fun, I cant wait to go back.

There is an enclosed bar around the pool area. We never used it, but only went inside to get drinks, which we took outside and sat on the patio area. I did notice that a smll buffett was set up inside this room before dinner. This was an air conditioned area, but not particular intimate. There were tables and comfy chairs on the patio, which we preferred. Hope this is helpful.
