The photos on tripadvisor make St Benet's Abbey look nice, but place was huge disappointment. Room 9 was a real dump, even though it wasn't cheap. VERY damp, with mould everywhere, with a loo & tiny shower squashed into a very small closet-type space. No wifi, so had to sit in their rather unpleasant reception area to get the internet....

We are always disappointed when people's expectations are not met when they stay. However, in this instance, you as the author of this review were not a guest that stayed with us and were merely dropping your son off. Your son did not seem to have any issue with his experience here. To respond directly to each of your points...

We arrived at St Benet's to find other New Zealanders (and relatives of the owner, JJ), also just arrived. This was an interesting and fun start to an excellent 4-night stay at the old Abbey, which we used as a base for exploration of the Cornwall area. The Abbey is well located for day trips along the north and south...

We were welcomed by the friendly Owner who showed us around and to our room. It was a good sized room with en-suite facilities and a comfortable bed. The staff were also friendly and very helpful. The dining room was spotless and the Breakfast was cooked to perfection. Location is good for visiting Eden Project, Bodmin Moor, Looe and Polperro....

Wonderful old building with lots of charm. Reasonable sized rooms with good bathrooms. Excellent breakfasts to set you up for the day and a bar for a relaxing drink in the evening. Close to lots of major sights in Cornwall so ideally placed for a base. Be warned though - at the moment, Bodmin is completely dug up and impossible...

A comfortable B&B in an interesting ancient building. Very easy to find as it is close to the A30 junction but surprisingly little traffic noise (it is in a valley). Well run and organised, a nice bed and a good breakfast. What else can you ask for ? (Oh and there is even a bar !).

We would happily have stayed more than just one night, but St Benet's was fully booked on other nights. We enjoyed our stay. The building is very old and the lay-out is quirky, as with many old buildings. Our room was comfortable and clean with en-suite and nice toiletries provided. Breakfast was excellent, with pleasant and efficient service. The owner,...

Our room was clean and tidy, and included a hair dryer and TV. The breakfast was excellent. It is good to see the owner restoring a beautiful old building for guests to enjoy. However, it was such a shame that the proprietor directed his angst with a Booking.com error on us, a group of five ladies on a walking weekend...

We very much appreciate you taking the time to review your stay. We are sorry if our concern over the error with your booking was taken as angst. We endeavour to meet all expectations - even with problems that are outside of our control, and make all guests feel welcome from the time they step into our home.

Lovely B&B hotel in very old abbey building. Lots of atmosphere and very helpful owners and staff. Nice room, OK a little dated but rooms are to be upgraded soon. Great bar/lounge area. Very good breakfasts. Not so good for disabled, need to be able to use stairs and do not claim to be wheelchair friendly, though there are some...

A very good B&B in a lovely old building with lots of character. Very warm welcome from John, one of the owners. Good powerful shower. Free wifi worked fine. We had a drink in the bar to appreciate the ambience of the building, that's recommended. We walked the 10 minutes to Lanivet Inn (you need to book) for a good...
