Had a wonderful and comfortable stay. Location of the hotel is good and easily accessible. Can get autos, taxis at the entrance and even Hotel staff can help with the same.
The housekeeping staff was very friendly and helpful. They obliged for all our requests. The security was very helpful. Breakfast was tasty, though the number of items were limited. Definitely worth staying.

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit India last week to attend the wedding of a very dear friend of ours. It was a short break and a perfect getaway for the two of us (or at least that what we presumed!), given our hectic work schedules and the lack of quality time that we generally experience with each other throughout the week. After much contemplation, searching, and hunting for hotels months in advance, we found, what we felt was, the perfect deal. Upon browsing through several options, we came across Hotel Grande 51 – a picture perfect hotel with a promising delivery of customer service and care. My wife insisted we stayed around the area, since she had a better idea of Navi Mumbai, especially CBD-Belapur. It’s needless to say that upon arrival at the hotel, things started taking a different course of action than how we had expected them to! Our short sojourn quickly started turning into an unforgettable nightmare of unexpected, horrible events! There were 14 rooms in the entire establishment, and we were given the 14th room – the last one!

Day 1 (Friday – Check-in Day):
We arrived at the hotel at around 11:00 AM, an hour or so before our official check-in time. We didn’t mind waiting in the lobby, as we really wanted to stretch and look around the area. Upon arriving at the place, we learned that the hotel was built atop Moti Mahal, a one-time standalone restaurant that had already been around the area for quite some time. Our excitement knew no bounds, since Moti Mahal was one of our favorite Indian restaurants – irrespective of its location across the globe. Anyhow, we checked into the hotel at around 11:30 AM or so. Being a frequent traveler, I have stayed at both budget and 4/5 star hotels, so I was pretty familiar with the ups and downs of availing both types of deals.

Upon entering the room, I found the snack bar almost empty (there were only two packets of cookies and Lays chips there). Other items, as listed on the snack bar items' list were missing, such as nuts and candy. The mini fridge was conveniently located inside an overhead cabinet. We thought it was a great idea, until we found half-a-bottle of coke inside. The housekeeping had just finished cleaning up the room, before the manager handing over the key card to us! We did bring this to his attention, though, when we stepped out later for lunch and shopping.

The bathroom door lock/latch was broken, which meant that the door was ajar at all times. The water faucet was unsteady and rocky, causing us to be extra careful while turning it on and off. There was no soap dish/tray. After washing our hands, we had to either place the soap on the counter, or on a piece of paper napkin! Oh, there were no tissues or napkins either; we had to buy our own!

But keeping everything aside, here’s where the real nightmare started – there was absolutely no HOT WATER in our bathroom! Both my wife and I are wary of bathing or showering with cold water, given our sinus problems. We brought this to the front desk manager’s attention. He asked us to keep the hot water faucet water running for some time prior to enjoying our hot water. Fine! We did that. The water kept running for a good 6-7 minutes, and all we got was semi-lukewarm water (thanks to the afternoon sun!). I skipped bathing that day, as I really needed my hot water. We had our lunch at the hotel, before leaving for shopping, and returned late in the evening. There was still no hot water, and the leftover water in the tank had already turned cold due to a drop in the outside temperature. The evenings were chillier than the afternoons. Upon complaining, the manager assured us that it will be fixed the next day.

Frustrated with the incident, we gave up and handed over my wife’s dresses and my brand new suit that I had just purchased from the neighboring town, to the housekeeping personnel who had come to pick up our order. I politely insisted that he take the suit’s hanger with it as well, since I wasn’t sure if the laundry would provide me with one. He brushed it off and convinced me that it wouldn't be required. I was informed that I would be receiving our clothes by Saturday evening.

Day 2 (Saturday):
We woke up shivering the next day. This was our only free day before the two big wedding receptions on the following days. I woke up with a mild temperature, perhaps a sinus attack or something – not sure. I headed straight to the bathroom. Guess what! No hot water again! I was already feeling dirty without having taken a proper shower the previous day, and now this! I called up the front desk manager and re-escalated the complaint. He repeated the same story of leaving the hot water faucet running for some time before using the actual hot water. Not again, man! What do I do now? I did as I was told and this time there was no afternoon sun’s lukewarm water – clearly it was early in the morning! I was left with no choice but to take shower with the cold water. My wife insisted I wait until the afternoon so I could at least bathe with the lukewarm water coming from the cold water faucet, but I couldn’t! I needed to respond to my call for personal hygiene.

After getting done showering with the chilling morning water, my wife and I headed over to have our breakfast. It was a buffet, alright! With barely three dishes to choose from and cold omelets and lukewarm milk tea, we were horrified and disappointed beyond disbelief! The merciless cold morning had already done its damage by now. I was already feeling nauseated because of the cold weather and the unappetizing and not-so-scrumptious breakfast.

I had started falling sick full-fledged by now, but since we were on a schedule; I took some paracetamol and went about my way. I couldn’t afford to lie down or rest.

Upon our return to the hotel, the housekeeping attendant brought our clothes to our room. He walked in to the room calmly and placidly with a folded stack of clothes. My heart skipped a beat! My brand new suit (jacket and pants) were compressed and folded like a bunch of t-shirts in a vacuum-sealed packet. I was dumbstruck at the condition of my suit right before my eyes. Not a single spot was left heavily wrinkled. How the hell was I supposed to wear this thing at my best friend’s wedding! Do people really lack that bit of a common sense?!

I called up the manager and gave him a piece of my mind. He apologized several times and assured me that my suit would be sent back to get pressed the way it should be. I had started to get really annoyed by their unprofessionalism and negligent behavior towards the basic needs of their guests. Oh, and guess what, he accepted my hanger this time - *eyes roll*!

Day 3 (Sunday):
I woke up with fever and puffy sinuses. It was the worst morning ever! The cold water and weather had already done their damage to my health. I was not in a state of leaving my bed. My wife called up the reception and argued with them. This time, there was absolutely no hot water, since the entire water tank was flushed out – no idea why! There was literally NOT A SINGLE DROP OF HOT WATER in the entire establishment. Upon further arguing, we were offered hot water in plastic buckets. That was the end of it, as we had both lost our cool! We told them that we would be checking out if they won’t move us to another room with proper facilities and functional equipment like faucets and whatnot. They only had one other room available that had the same issue. I immediately called up the nearby hotels and inquired about their availability. Unfortunately, if some had Sunday available, their Mondays were sold out and vice versa. Moreover, our clothes were still at the laundry, which we were supposed to wear to the wedding.

Day 4 (Monday):
This had to be the peak of our ongoing nightmare. Besides the fact that there was no hot water and that we were still being provided with one in plastic buckets, we had some more surprises down the lane. We decided to take it easy for the day and rest in the afternoon before the reception. That afternoon, while resting, we were continuously disturbed by some sort of hammering, slamming, and all the other maintenance-related noises. Good lord! Our peaceful afternoon nap was totally disturbed and annihilated. By now, I was totally drained health-wise, and had absolutely no energy to argue or raise any more concerns. I was burning with fever and inflamed sinuses!

I took some more paracetamol and anti-inflammatory medication and got my health to the point where I could at least move around and attend my friend's wedding. I hadn't come all the way to lie in bed all day in a paid confinement!

We returned from the reception at around 1:00 AM and had to wait outside the main gate for more than 20 minutes for the guard to respond to our knocking. While waiting for the guard to show up, this another gentleman who was waiting on the other side of the gate, inside the hotel, created a ruckus and used foul language to awaken the guard from his deep, cozy slumber. The indecorous conduct portrayed by the guarding staff was cringe-worthy and totally embarrassing, to say the least! Miffed and totally vexed by the drama, my wife and I just rushed to our room.

Day 5 (Tuesday – Check-out Day):
As expected, the issue of hot water hadn't been resolved. It was freezing cold outside in the morning, and we had to get ready for the airport. I was still feverish, as the chilly weather in the mornings kept fluctuating. I called up the reception and asked him for buckets of hot water (yes! I didn't argue this time!). The fool at the reception sarcastically asked me in Hindi: “Buckets! We don’t provide hot water in buckets, sir! We have a shower.” I snapped at him and his hotel’s customer service and the so-called buckets of hot water that they had been providing us with all this while! The imbecile was left speechless over his own stupidity and daftness.

We packed up our bags, left the hotel, and signed the necessary paperwork at the front desk. Not a single inconvenience discount or deduction was mentioned on the bill, and on top of that, they had the audacity to charge us a LUXURY TAX worth so many rupees – oh, the irony!

We came in healthy and happy, and left sad and sick!

I will never - EVER - recommend this terrible joke of a lodging house to anybody! If you truly care for your sanity, inner peace, and health - stay away from this place!

PS: When we had booked the hotel online, we were informed that there would be free wifi in all areas. But upon arrival at the hotel, wifi was limited to the rooms only, and not in the lobby, reception, or the restaurants!

Advantage for guests : nice locality, very good restaurants around.
Advantage of hotel : mosquitoes all around the place starting from rooms to dining hall. I was surprised to see that curd is served by removing the fallen mosquitoes and other insects. Hotel staff do care about you..!!! They remove all insects fallen into food... Wow.. would have never believed unless I saw it myself..
The Billing is so poor that the receptionist offered us the lowest rates if we pay him good tip.. wow.. probably the owner doesn't look into this.. the bills were not correctly made.. dispute telling the details required (like GST) on bill the receptionist messed up it totally. Over and about it he tried to convince by saying " chalta Hai".. it's certainly not a professional behavior. Another thing... Which is important of you want a sound sleep in room.. if you are looking for a large single bed room... they provide you two singel beds joined together...unique creativity...!!! Importantly the matress are so magical that they provide you different feeling at different corners of bed... Somewhere hard as rock and somewhere so soft that you have a backache next day morning for sure... The banquet hall in hotel is another nightmare for you if some function is going on there.. the music is so loud and rooms are not insulated from sound so that you get to know every beat of music in your room...
So I won't recommend this hotel to you unless u just wanted to enjoy night life around here... Else it's your risk... You may get different experience than what we got .

Been here twice before and I must say, never returned disappointed! The rooms with the balconies are tastefully done and absolutely perfect, no spectacular view as such, but it has this calming vibe to it, makes you feel like home! Its tough to find a gem like this in a place like Mumbai, tucked away from the hustle bustle, offering the facilities at half the price compared. The staff looked after our needs with much elan and were very affable. Hotel Grande is centrally located at Belapur, surrounded by the key hang out spots, you can never get bored sround here.Their restaurant Moti Mahal has allot to offer to the ones residing. All in all, a wonderful cum peaceful experience, and absolute value for money! Will definitely go back!
