I think the other reviews understate the volume of the church bells that are only silent from 10 pm until 5 am. Then, they start with a vengeance every 15 miutes. I too, could not figure out the system of rings but it was at least 15 times every 15 minutes. It is a very pretty hotel with well furnished...

We walked into this hotel and the staff was friendly and everyone was helpful. It is a beautiful hotel and we had a room with a balcony overlooking the plaza which was fabulous. With the balcony doors open and the fans on there was no need for air condtionong. It was quiet and peaceful. We do have 2 small children...

A small group of us had a memorable farewell dinner here. The restaurant has a great view of the zocalo's Cathedral which is illuminated at night. There were even fireworks which we could watch from an outside balcony. The food was excellent. Try the peach magaritas. But service was a bit slow on a busy Saturday night. My only complaint...

Normally I do not stay in this fancy of a hotel but due to not having planned out a trip 3 days before the Mexican Independence Day celebrations I made reservations for 3 nights through Travelocity for $150 a night. Since I was with my father I did not want to risk arriving in a state capitol known for its...

This is a beautifully restored hotel. It is so tastefully done, inside and out. The hallways inside the hotel are spacious and beautifully decorated. There's no clutter in this building, just lovely furnishings. It's gorgeous, just like the rest of the old city. The hotel is built around two interior courtyards, both of which are used for other commercial purposes...

The Hotel Los Juaninos, originally a bishop's palace dating back to the 18th century, was restored to a modern hotel in 1998. We discovered the hotel on [--] and were attracted by the location in the center of Morelia , directly across from the main cathedral. At check-in, we were fortunate to secure suite#106, an expansive second floor corner location...

It was May when I stayed there. It was a very warm night without A/C and I really couldn't open the window because it was too noisy outsid (saturday night). So avoid it during the warm season.

We were promised the Master Suite at a reduced rate, but when we arrived, we were taken to a regular room with no explanation. We noticed that the beautiful open areas in the hotel were inexplicably hermetically sealed from floor to ceiling with decorative glass. This negated the old building's original design and totally eliminated any movement of air. The...

We spent 4 nights at Los Juaninos last week. I chose it solely on the strength of the single rave review on this site. Was set to stay at the Virrey Mendoza till I read the review from Texas poster. Thought the Virrey looked quite pretty though too. We loved Los Juaninos and aren't sure why it hasn't had press...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Riginally a 17th-century noble palace, Los Juaninos was converted into a superb 30-room hotel in 1998 when it was renovated with all modern facilities and comforts. Yet this landmark building faithfully retains its architectural grandeur, harmonizing with surrounding Spanish colonial buildings of Morelia's Historic Center which, in its entirety, is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to UNESCO, these aristocratic buildings "reflect the town's architectural history, revealing a masterly and eclectic blend of the medieval spirit with Renaissance, Baroque and neoclassical elements." The hotel's impressive facade and lobby, thick stone walls, graceful stairways and arched hallways combine with guestrooms and suites, each one distinct, forming an ambience reminiscent of Morelia's glorious past. Balconied windows have breathtaking close-up views of Morelia's cathedral: the varying shades of its pink quarry stone facade by day; glowing magnificently at dusk; and dramatically illuminated at night. The city's tree-lined main square is just across the street, a vibrant setting in the heart of Morelia, capital of the State of Michoacan. History At the end of the seventeenth century, the Captain General of New Spain and Bishop Juan Ortega y Montanez ordered the construction of the opulent Bishop's Palace in this privileged location of Morelia. Then, in 1700, the Bishop granted the building to the religious order of Los Juaninos who converted it into the Royal Hospital of San Juan de Dios which they maintained for over a century. In 1857 the building was sold to private individuals, and in 1886 it was transformed by architect Guillermo Wotton de Corinne, influenced by fashionable romantic architectural style, into the most luxurious hotel of the period, the Hotel Oseguera. It catered to first-class passengers traveling on the new railway from Mexico City to Morelia. Finally, in 1998 the building was restored to its original splendor and reopened as the Hotel Los Juaninos, with its antique French furnishings, rich fabrics, and art-nouveau stained-glass windows, as well as modern facilities including an elevator. Hotel Los Juaninos has continually undergone renovations and enhancements during the past decade. Morelia has played an important role in the history of Mexico. It was the birthplace of several heroes of the Mexican Independence, September 16, 1810, a date that is celebrated spectacularly here. ... more   less

“Depends on whether you like a room with view or not (could add around 20 bucks to your rate). But on average, rooms with view tend to be noisier during middle-week stays. I was there on Sunday and they closed vehicle traffic on the main street so I did get the beautiful view with almost no noise.”
