We stayed here during the flooding last week so we weren't able to experience the outdoors. The lake looked pretty and the surrounding bush would've been neat to explore had it been fine. The chalet we were in was clean and comfortable but had a dreadful smell which I can only describe as the smell of rotting onions. There was...

Book in for two nights on a non powered camp site. Zone 3 number 29, best view of the lake when you wake up in the morning unobstructed. Toilets are just behind the camp ground and main showers/bathroom, kitchen area just a 1min walk. Camp site it self it awesome, they have a fuel station, bit pricey but that's how...

If you are a fisherperson or a walker, this is an ideal location. If all you want is peace and quiet in a natural setting, this is it. Mind you we went during the week, out of school holidays. There is a serious 4 day walk that can be done from here, but I leave that to others to elaborate...

This DOC managed holiday park has heaps more to offer than your traditional DOC campsite. Huge kitchen, spotless facilities, well stocked store and super friendly staff. The view over the stunning lake are just a bonus. We loved our stay there!

We stayed here the night before we did The Great Walk. It was $100 to stay in a Chalet. There was two very comfortable single beds with a loft to accomodate extras. We chose a Chalet as it had its own facilities. The Chalet was clean with two sets of towels so we could shower night and morning. The kitchen...

It was a bit of a hairy drive in the camper so unless you intend to stay for a few days not worth the drive. A beautiful spot with many walks long and short. In finer weather or holidays there might have been a few more water activities but very quiet when we visited. Camper parking does not have a...

As a Fly-Fisherman coming from Australia & some distance - to read on the website - “Fisherman’s Huts” - really has a wonderful ring to it. One imagines great views (not always necessary) and great peacefulness & tranquillity. One also imagines reasonably sized cabins or huts, and one imagines reasonably equipped huts. Sadly, not all of this was available to...

We recently spent 3 nights here. The campground had good facilities and was clean. The showers were great - nice and hot, good pressure and token free! The site shop also had petrol pumps which was handy but the fuel is pricey. The lake is beautiful but very windy so make sure to ask for a site out of the...

If you can tolerate the 75 Kms gravel road from Murupara (or 25 Kms gravel road from Wairoa), you will find this holiday park rewarding in its proximity to enjoy Lake Waikaremoana and its surrounding activities. We stayed at the Chalet and hence can comment on the condition of the Chalet. First, the Staff were very helpful and this being...

This review is for the chalet accommodation at Waikaremoana Holiday Park. We have 7-week-year-old baby and decided that our usual camping style may be too intense (no pun intended)… but we just needed to get outdoors so decided on the chalet as it has it's own bathroom and kitchen. These chalets are not fancy but clean, tidy and cosy. I...
