If you are in a pinch you could stay here. In my opinion there are better ones in San Jose. The vibe just felt a little off from the get go. I can't put my finger on it. It had some cool art work around and they had lockers which was nice. They made an awesome dinner one night. It... More

I thought it was good that the hostel rooms had their own curtains on each bed for some privacy. Was good walking distance to the uni area and some big shopping malls. The staff were a little strange, I heard a big fight out front of my room at 4am. It was okay, just a bit strange.

This was a strange place. Some of the staff was very nice (shoutout to the pancakeman!), some wasn't. We had a room next to the garage where staff had friends over all the time, playing loud music and smoking pot. It is also not a place to socialize, and a lot of old single men seem to be just living... More

The staff when I was there were very friendly and helpful. The London theme was interesting, but I enjoyed the change of pace! I stayed in the dorms, and was pleased to find they had curtains you could draw to get a bit of privacy at any hour. Fairly comfortable too. The showers were warm, which was really nice. My... More

Stayed here unexpectedly after a late night out in San Pedro. Walking distance from the main drag, Calle de la Amargura, where a lot of the bars, restaurants, and general nightlife is. Also close to San Pedro mall, San Pedro outlet mall/2 ATMS, and the University of Costa Rica. About a 15-20 minute bus ride to San Jose city center.... More

I stayed in Castle Tam in both a private room and in a dorm setting. It was a great value for both and I had a great time there. The staff was very helpful with giving me information about transportation and things to do around San Jose. After staying there my first time I stayed in a hostel closer to... More

Home from home, particularly for us Brits! Loved it. The service was top notch, Evan was as attentive as they come and I adored all the cultural references to good old Blighty's capital. Further, there was security for both of our big motos, an efficient laudry service and clean rooms. Decent kitchen and a tasty breakfast comprising great coffee and... More

Located in the safe and cozy San Pedro area this hostel is an excellent choice for those who want a clean, quiet hostel at a good price. The staff all speak fluent english, are friendly and helpful. The hostel has free pancake breakfast and coffee so even more value for the already very affordable rooms. If you want to see... More

We decided to pick this hostel because of the price. We did not book in advance because we knew it wasn't the high season for travelers. We decided to get a double room and it was only 26$ per night so 13$ each. This was pretty cheap and included breakfast. We ended up having a 5 person room to ourselves... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We're in the heart of lively, upscale San Pedro, only 300 meters from the University of Costa Rica and the student nightlife of Calle de la Amargura. Our hostel is 10 minutes by bus from downtown San Jose and walking distance from San Pedro Mall, three supermarkets and many restaurants! We have two full kitchens and plenty of fridge space for your food. Hang out with fellow travelers in the courtyard, or watch students pass by on the outside terrace. San Pedro is a safe neighborhood in San Jose, so we enjoy taking our guests out for movie nights, skating, city walks and pub crawls on Calle de la Amargura. We have regular BBQs, hot water in every bathroom and free WiFi throughout the building. ... more   less
