Grand Decameron Los Cabos is often commended for its cleanliness, with many guests appreciating the spotless pools and grounds, although some have flagged up issues with room upkeep and towel shortages. The rooms, deemed outdated and cramped by reviewers, also suffer from occasional cleanliness lapses. Patrons enjoy satisfactory amenities like clean pools, but are critical of the monotonous food and lackluster maintenance. While the staff garners praise for their friendliness, guests sometimes encounter service hiccups.
The lively atmosphere, with its loud music, is a double-edged sword, as it can impinge on tranquility. The hotel's location is appreciated for its beach proximity, despite the unsightly nearby construction. Travelers often question the value proposition, pointing to mediocre food, drinks, and extra costs.

Detailed Reviews
Plus: Beautiful view of courtyard, pools and ocean from 3rd floor room. Large and private balcony, very clean and the bed is simply amazing (emperor size memory foam with pristine linens and a dozen pillows!) Housekeeping will customize the free mini fridge, to a point. No diet sodas available, but ask for extra water to be stocked daily. The 3rd level pool is the best! Adults only with a swim up bar and comfy seating sun or shade. The pool looks directly out to the sea & you can watch whales breach and spout while sipping your grownup beverage and meeting people from all over the globe! There's also a private beach with shade and drink service but NO swimming here due to dangerous undertow. The spa is lovely and reasonably priced.
Minus: Stairs, stairs, stairs! This hotel has many levels and no elevators, so would be very difficult for guests with disabilities. Pools and bars don't open until 10 and breakfast is at 7 so there's very little to do if you rise early. The pools also close early at 7pm. Luckily, you only have to cross the street to a small plaza that offers a convenience store (Coke Light!), a delicious coffee/pastry shop and an ATM with good peso exchange rate. Also, Chiltepenos restaurant/sports bar has delicious food after 1pm if you find yourself craving a burger or wings.
Our room's coffeepot and hair dryer were broken but immediately replaced with new devices when we reported the issue.
Food: Luis captains his attentive staff of table service at the buffet. He makes everyone feel like his special guest. The hot bar buffet is just okay, neither great nor bad. The star of every meal is the fresh salad and fruit. They make a lemony Italian dressing that I already miss.
Definitely go downtown and don't fret about taxi or uber. 25 pesos gets 2 people on the Urbano bus to the city square--just wave at it as it approaches the hotel and walk down from the square to a bus stop to get back. They look like school busses and say Urbano. If in doubt, ask "zona hotelera?" It drops you at the plaza across the street from Decameron.
The desk attendants and concierge are very helpful when you have need to call locally to verify your rides or tours. The gift shop is very reasonable for spending your leftover pesos when you leave. This hotel is everything you need for a relaxing getaway... as long as you have no trouble with stairs. Gracias por todos!

My boyfriend and I decided to head to Mexico two days sooner than we’d planned and decided to find a new hotel instead of extending our other reservations. So we picked the Royal Decameron and it was an overall very pleasant and positive experience. The rooms are a little dated but very clean and we loved our balcony for reading and playing cards at night.
The bathrooms were not my favorite, because the shower stall kind of extends into where the toilet is (the shower door also enclosed the toilet area, if that makes sense). We liked the rainfall shower head and the water was warm enough but didn’t really get hot. No big deal, Mexico is hot, we can take warm showers.
The bed was very firm. This is something that I usually like but need to adjust to, and we were only here for two nights so my back and hips are a little sore.
The buffet for breakfast and lunch was VERY good. A lot of variety and they have staff to serve the food rather than a ton of people getting their hands all over stuff. The waiters were perfectly attentive and quick to bring us anything we asked for.
The specialty restaurant exceeded our expectations. We had lunch there which was only ok, I got a variation of pizza that was more of a roll with slightly melted mozzarella cheese and some surprisingly yummy pepperoni that I couldn’t finish, and my boyfriend got the ceviche toast that was way better. We made reservations for that night for dinner and had medium expectations but the tuna wontons were so good we got a second order, and my boyfriend’s sirloin was fall apart delicious. I got the shrimp fettuccine and was a little disappointed with the flavor of the sauce, although the shrimps were perfectly cooked and so flavorful! My boyfriend said his apple pie dessert was fantastic.
The pools and bartenders were the highlight of our stay. I love the big winding pools with different levels for swimming or just sitting in the cool water. The adults only pool upstairs is heated to a very pleasant temperature for watching the sunset without getting a chill. All the staff were eager to make sure we didn’t have to lift a finger and we so appreciate the level of customer service we experienced here. There was a little confusion with the reservation process and the WiFi login instructions but everyone made an effort to get it correctly immediately. The staff is what can make or break a location and the staff here take a lot of pride in their jobs.

We stayed for one week at Royal Decameron at the end of Feb/2020. We really enjoyed our stay, rooms and bed were comfortable and well maintained.
It was a smaller size AI where there were never any problems getting into a lounge chair either at the beach or pool side at any time of the day. There was a good variety of foods at the buffet and the Luna Restaurant where you needed to reserve for evening dinners. The staff, waiters/ waitresses were friendly and pretty attentive, a little tip went a long way and was really appreciated by the staff. The nightly entertainment was good and the staff work really hard.
The beach was not always swimmable but to have a nice long walk in either direction was a nice touch. The location of the resort was a perfect touch also as it was a nice walk into San Jose del Cabo town centre 35 min walk with many restaurants and shops along the way and if there on a Thursday evening check out the Art district!! There is also a large grocery store across the street for snacks etc. Getting into Cabo San Lucas by local bus was easy and cheap, 37 pesos per person and 30-35 mins at the Marina.
The resort is a great place if you like a laid back not too busy atmosphere, always room at beach, poolside and restauraunts, all the staff are tremendous. Check in went very smooth as well as check out. The front desk staff were always helpful as well as concierge desk. Cruz was awesome, always had info and suggestions of how and where to go. Nayela at the Excursion desk was a great help suggesting places to go as a group or on your own, car rental at the resort was reasonable and worked out well
All in all a great stay and great location, would return here as there is still much more to see and do throughout Cabo San Lucas

My husband and I arrived here after a 12 and half hour flight .but by the time we got to the hotel it was 15hours only to be told our room was not ready ! My husband had a few words to say about this only to be ignored by the man on reception who then went on to speak to some americans !! Finally a lady came to speak to us who suddenly found us a room!when we got in no hot water for a shower!! The resort itself is lovely .the location is great . The beach is lovely and clean .soft clean sand but unfortunatly you can not swim in the ocean becacuse of the rip tide . The food in the buffet is very bland tasting . Breakfast is ok but you have to ask the egg lady for for the bacon as it is kept behind the counter which is a pain if there is a que for eggs as you have to wait as noone serving !the luna evening food is ok but cold by the time you get it as the wind of the sea is so cold and you you have to sit in coats and blankets which is a shame because it is a nice setting at night. Even if they put out the gas heaters at night which they have tucked away would of been nice ..we asked at the bar where the enternainment was if the fire pit could be but on which was around 7pm beacuse it was so cold only to be told no it wasnt allowed till 9pm ..but as soon as an american asked it was put on again makin us feel like a 2nd class citizen.any time we asked for a drink the staff where busy or they didnt have it .or turned their noses up at us . But as soon as an american came throwing money around for tips they suddenly had the drinks and where all smiles!! Sorry but we shouldnt have to pay fo drinks or good service in an all inclusive hotel . They get tipped from us if they have had good service . Not if they treat us like $##t so we pay them to give us good service. Some of the pool bar men were decent but the lobby barman was very rude and ignored us but as soon as an american was there handing hin 20buck tips a time he was all smiles. He never had drinks we asked for but if it was an ametican he always had special underr the counter drinks!! In nice glasses where as we always got plasic cups .i think his name was fenando or something similar.all in all we made the best of our time there with the people we met and eating at chiplonoes across the road a few times .. trying to get bottles of water was also a night mare ..like
you was asking for champagne!! Captain dennis in luna made us feel special when we ate there after being made to feel pretty rubish by other members of staff. Valentino the guest relations lady was really nice .she tried to sort out some of the problems but as this holiday was a birthday present fom my husband it was really upsetting as it was supposed to be a special time ..time which we can never get back .. tui have only just started to fly there but they do not make the english feel welcome at all and really looked down on us .it could be a really good hotel ...it was also advertised as adults only which is why we booked it .but there was loads of screaming kids . We paid a lot of money for a very poor sevice hotel!!

My boyfriend & I spent a week at Royal Decameron and we were not disappointed! The rooms were great, the resort was extremely clean, great food & drink selection. The staff was very friendly & helpful. The A La Carte restaurant was also delicious. The only compliment was the additional fees for wifi & the lockbox in the room, which should be included in the price. To avoid the extra charge, there is an Oxxo convenience store directly across the street from the hotel that sells SIM cards for $9 with 2.5GB of data.

I visited Mexico a few days ago and stayed at the Royal Decameron. its a pretty old hotel but very very very clean. we had a few issues with our bath tub and toilet but they have maintenance on site and the issue was fixed immediately. the employees are respectful, friendly and ready to help. I was able to build relationships with the employees because the service was beyond my expectation. Don Julo, had my capucinno ready and just the way I like it. Jose was always respectful and always making sure that I was satisfied with the food. Elizabeth, Ninfa, Aturo, Otilo, Carlos at the front desk. I can go on and on. they were all amazing, helpful and respectful. I was very impressed with the service. my only recommendation with the hotel is the food service. sometimes the food was cold and not too enjoyable when eating cold food. the all inclusive package will help you save a lot of money if you are looking to do a lot of activities outside of the hotel. I give this hotel 10 stars. I felt more safe with all of this pandemic going on the hotel employees were always cleaning, hand sanitizers were at every station. your temperature gets checked every time before you enter the restaurant to eat. it was safe safe safe and I'm now back in my hometown covid free.

We had a wonderful week. Staff is amazing, shows were excellent, food is readily available. The location has many amenities/shopping/restaurants nearby walking distance. There were no restrictions or extra charges as some reviews had stated. Wifi was free, safes were free and if you wanted more refreshments in your fridge, (daily allotment was 2 bottles of water, 2 beer, and two pop) you just had to ask and it was delivered to our room. I would return as I especially liked that there were always places to sit where ever you chose to be, beach, around the pool or at the buffet. Very good value and service for a week away from the winter blahs. Only recommendation to the resort would be to change up the disco music from boom boom music with some classic rock , pop or country nights. More ppl might participate or to open another later night bar for ppl who stay up late but don’t favour the loud booming music as the disco was the only open bar after 10. I do commend the buffet open until 1 a.m., having pizza, hamburgers, bacon wrapped hotdogs and French fries available. I would definitely return. Thank you Royal Decameron.

I’ve been to this hotel twice now, once in December 2017, and then again 15 months later in March, 2019. The hotel itself is quaint, clean, and in a perfect location. The food is good, the service is hit and miss. For a hotel this small, the staff could be a lot friendlier.
Here’s my rant:
My first experience at this hotel was lovely. My favourite spot was at the adult only infinity pool.
My biggest complaint the first time was that we had to pay extra for wifi (that barely worked), and for a safe in our room. I have been to many hotels, they ALL include a safe. As for wifi, if you’re going to charge, $10 a day is TOO MUCH, especially when it rarely works. Both the safe and wifi should be included in your all inclusive price.
My second experience at this hotel was a complete RIP OFF.
The resort had become adult only (perfect), with an upgrade opportunity to a ‘Plus’ experience. Being a Plus Member gave us a plaque on the door of the EXACT same room we had the year prior. They threw in some chocolates, (poor) wifi, a room safe, robes, and access to the infinity pool that on my first stay, I enjoyed daily, for FREE!!
$200 per person for the exact same room and pool???!!!
The Plus Members were also to receive special a la Carte seating, but again, it was no different than the year before, and the Premium brands of alcohol were only made available if you asked, which was again no different than the year before..
So basically we paid $200 extra per person, for a safe, poor wifi, and a robe that didn’t fit either of us. Royal Decameron, you should be embarrassed.
So now with eyes wide open, I’d like to go back to that lovely infinity pool at the Decameron this year, so I called my travel agent to see about pricing, and guess what? The hotel is no longer adults only, and they no longer offer Plus, but their price has gone up a couple hundred bucks, and you still have to pay for wifi and a safe.
My recommendation:
Put your customers first. Offer wifi, and safes.
Do not charges 4 star rates for a 3 star hotel.
You customers will thank you, and your hotel will always be full.
Oh, and get some new wall decor, you’re not a Temptations resort any more.

We will take this as an opportunity to verify all our processes and make the respective improvements in order to guarantee a good stance to all our guest. I may inform you that this 2020 as you know we are not offering anymore the all inclusive plus, since we decided to make a general improvement and that involves giving services like wifi and safe for free to all the guest and bringing back the adults only pool. I would absolutely recommend this place for a weekend getaway for families, couples, or friends' trip. The resort is only about 15 min from the SJD airport and close to the quaint town of San Jose. It's a perfect location for the local flare and across the street is a mega supermarket for anything you need. The staff is probably the most accommodating staff we've seen to date for a resort. They really went out of their way to help out when needed. We had 2 mechanical issues involving the room safe and toilet and they fixed the issues right away! The beds were comfortable and the A/C worked great (which is a big deal to me). We had a balcony view of the courtyard, pool, and ocean. Coffee maker was provided in room upon request with condiments and the room had a fridge. The grounds and common areas as well as our room were kept clean and sanitized.
There were 2 restaurants, the Luna and the buffet. The Luna had delicious food but required RSVP which needed to be made early am. And also had very limited options with no daily "special" or changes. The buffet was the only other option. Breakfast was amazing and the omelet chef was friendly and fun....always smiling. The dinner and lunch options at the buffet were not particularly memorable, although, again, the staff was exceptional.
The reason I gave this a 4 star is that there were no snacks nor pool side service. One of the reasons we chose an all-inclusive resort vs. a room only is that we enjoy pool side service. Its just that little perk that makes a getaway special. To eat, you had to go into the restaurant and eat there, they did not allow food to be taken out. And there were no snacks. I tried one day to just get French fries and they wouldn't let me without ordering an entrée. The "snacks" were full meals. In all my travels, I have never been to an all-inclusive that did not have chips and guacamole or chips and salsa, or snack type options. I understand things are definitely limited with Covid but pool side service should not be affected by this. The spa, gift shop, and disco were closed due to Covid, which was understandable, but the limited food options and delivery options were not acceptable.
Overall the Royal Decameron was perfect for a quick weekend, but given the limited food options and having so many things shut down (other resorts have amenities opened with covid guidelines), we would not stay here again due to the lack of food options, pool service, and shut down areas.

Since Nov 2018 we have stayed at this property over 10 times, yes the first 4 time it was a couples all aduilt c/o resort but not a swingers resort as some suggest. We stayed at the Royal Decameran again in Sep.then in Oct. and had a wonderful time as usual. Because we have been there somany times much of the staff know us and great us as close friends, This might give first time visitors the idea that we are treated differently because we are Americans and nothing could futher from the truth as we have never seen other guest snubbed by staff as some suggested on here.
We like the resort because it is small witha great staff working hard to make every thing great for guest. While we were there in Sep.there was a tropical stormthat passed just off the coast and the staff went out of their wayto make sure that there were something for the guest to do that day. Due to the storm Luna was closedand we had to eat at the buffet and at the end of the meal all the waitstaff stood around her and sang Happy Birthday as a large piece of cake with Happy Birthday on it was brought out. We never said anything about her birthday to them but I guess that they overheard us talking about it and how we started calling the storm "Tropical Storm Debbie" because it happen on her birthday. It is little things like this that will make us return time and time again and enjoy the resort and the outstanding staff. We do agree with the others about the wine and drinks. My wife drinks white wine and she says that the wine they serve must come from the kitchen vinger counter. But that is a small thing compared to all the many other wonderful things at the Royal Decameran. We will be backas soon as we can toseour friends that work there.
