My husband and I took both of our parents for a vacation to Barcelo. Ages of our family range from early 30s, early 60s and early 70s. We ALL had the greatest time relaxing while enjoying the beautiful views. The location is PERFECT. 15 minute walk or 3 minute cab ride to San Jose downtown and there are tons of shops and bars just across the street from the resort. The food was much better than expected for resort restaurants and the drinks were strong and enjoyable. The staff here is one of the best assets and were all so kind and accommodating. We all felt very safe with their COVID measures in place. As we left, we tried to think of one thing we did not like about our time here and could not come up with a single thing between the 6 of us! A note for future visitors: the check in process does take a while, so come prepared to relax, enjoy some great snacks and a drink while you wait. I would not count this as a negative, as I have never been to a resort that has a quick check in process-it just seems to come with international traveling.

Hotel's Favourite
My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay at Barceló. This was our second visit to the resort, the first was 5 years ago for a family wedding. We had a great time, wished we had booked a longer trip. The COVID protocols are being followed, all the staff wears masks. The food at the buffets and the pool is very good and the Italian and Mexican restaurants are fun and tasty. This was our first trip to Mexico without family and friends and it was very relaxing. Everything is so clean, the beaches are beautiful, the staff is friendly. We had an oceanfront premium room and it was worth every penny. Luis in the premium room was very helpful, making reservations, our COVID test appointment, checking us in and out. Louis at the breakfast buffet was cheerful and would stop by tables to make sure everything was being taken care of. The highlight of the trip was Ivan at the premium pool. He is awesome, always busy but never forgetting to drop off a cocktail or bring food. He went above and beyond daily, finding us seats, he even came and found us when there were no available chairs and somehow made room for us. It’s an easy walk to town center where there is good shopping and fun bars. And a cab ride to Cabo is always worth it but this trip we found the marina area to be too crowded and were glad to return to our much calmer resort. We will go back and hopefully soon!

Each day was spent not worrying about food quality, service or safety. Staff was attentive (Ellie Rodriquez especially). The grounds are maintained in a beautiful way, rooms were cleaned and thoroughly during our 2 week stay. Loved every minute!

Everyone who worked here was pretty nice. It was a little understaffed, but as far as bang for buck goes this was a good stay. The restaurant hours were a bit strange and staggered and you can't get anything after 11pm. Pool was excellent. There's a big difference between premium and regular options so make sure to keep that in mind when booking. A couple of our friends didn't realize this and got regular service, which was not as accommodating. The services not included with the standard stay should be emphasized more.

Where do I begin....... We had arranged for airport pickup through the hotel. When we landed there were 20 different companies holding signs with their company name waiting to take people to their resort. We looked around and didn't see our company. After a few minutes we asked one of the people if they knew where our company was. He pointed to a man sitting to the side, on a bench, with no signage. If we had not asked someone we NEVER would have found him. The resort is located in a quiet little town and there are lots of restraunts within walking distance. There is also a large grocery store within walking distance. We stayed at the resort for 6 nights on their all inclusive package. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted with a beverage and a very pleasant front desk employee. After that our experience with the resort went downhill. Our room was facing a construction site and sparsely decorated, it didn't even have a clock in it. There were broken latches on the doors and the woodwork had numerous missing divots. The tile grout in the bathroom was gross and the whole bathroom floor noticeably slanted towards the shower. All day, and some evenings, we had to listed to the sounds of heavy machinery and construction work. The mattress was rock hard. There is NO soundproofing between rooms! We could hear when our upstairs and next door neighbors opened a door or closet, took a shower, flushed a toilet, walked across the room. Needless to say, we did not sleep well the entire time we were there. The service at this hotel was horrendous! The only saving grace was Alfredo, the bartender at the Pool Bar. He was friendly and attentive to our needs. Other than that the service was horrible. The lunch food was horrible. The food at the "high end" restraints was marginal. The breakfast buffet was marginal. I ordered decaf coffee and they brought me hot water and a packet of INSTANT coffee. When we ordered sodas they came completely flat. Later I discovered that they were serving sodas out of liter bottles, not soda machines. NO WONDER THEY WERE FLAT!! The food at all the buffets was reminiscent of middle school cafeteria food. Both my husband and I got sick from something we ate. The best food we ate there was from room service. There is also a huge issue of people being over served at this resort. We saw multiple people nearly drowning in the pool due to being over served. The staff merely fished them out of the pool, sat them down in a lounge, and continued to allow them to be served from there. I realize that this is Mexico, but we have been to numerous resorts in Cabo and watched resort staff cut people off from being served, as well as escort them to their room to sleep it off. We ordered room service at least 5 times while we were there. On the last night we were there we were asked to pay for our order at the time of delivery. We thought this was odd as the previous orders had never asked for this. When we told the server that we would pay at the front desk at checkout, like normal, he said okay and left. 10 minutes later he came back with a supervisor who was demanding payment stating that this is how they have always done business and no hotel allows you to room charge your room service. (Our tab for that meal came to $600 pesos, roughly $30 dollars). He then proceeded to escort my husband to the front desk so that he could pay for our one meal! My husband and I vacation in Mexico frequently. This was our 6th trip to Cabo and I can honestly say that it was by far our WORST experience ever. DO NOT BE FOOLED by the various good reviews of this resort. It was AWFUL!
