One&Only Palmilla garners accolades for its luxurious amenities and the warm, attentive service that creates a romantic atmosphere. However, opinions on the rooms are divided; guests appreciate the amenities and service but some find the decor dated and have concerns over maintenance. While the hotel's cleanliness is widely praised, the timing of housekeeping services occasionally misses the mark. Despite the enchantment with the hotel's detail-oriented luxury, the steep prices for spa treatments and dining prompt some guests to question the overall value.

My husband and I were celebrating my birthday at The one and Only Palmilla. Having stayed before, we were pleasantly surprised that the service is still top priority.
Lulu and Diego were always available for every request including reservations, specific food/beverage requests, and general questions. They were available via text and always asked about turndown service as well as spa reservations, fitness center inquiries, and always had our room in immaculate condition! Lulu and Diego had a birthday cake delivered to my room on my birthday which was very thoughtful. We had a junior suite, well-appointed room including a DYSON hairdryer! Our unit was a corner unit, unobstructed view of the sunrise and ocean from our bed!
Ricardo at the family pool was attentive to our requests for drinks, food and chairs. He brought two champagne glasses to our poolside chairs overlooking the ocean along with a slice of cake on my birthday which was beyond thoughtful.
Lulu and Deigo planned a beachside grilled lobster dinner for my birthday dinner. It was the most romantic dinner including a full bar, seating area carved out of sand covered with blankets and throw pillow overlooking a wood fire built by our waiter. The memories made this trip will last a lifetime. As we waited for our car service also planned by The One and Only, the staff presented us with a glass hummingbird as a memento of our stay. From start to finish, a first class, luxury experience! we never left the property ;)

My wife and I spent five nights recently at the One & Only Palmilla (OOP). This was our second trip in the past few years to Cabo. Our previous trip, in 2022, we stayed at the Rosewood Las Ventanas al Paraiso (LVP).

TripAdvisor only gives the option for 4 or 5 stars. As a result, I will rate OOP 4/5, but in all honestly, I would say it was really 4.5/5 stars. LVP, on the other hand, is clearly 5/5 stars. I will compare the two resorts and experiences below, focusing mostly on our recent stay at OOP.

We reserved private transportation from the airport. Similar to our trip to LVP, we were picked up in a luxury SUV replete with beverages and snacks. The Lincoln Navigator was very comfortable and the driver and greeter at the airport were both extremely friendly. Our drive to the resort was quick and without issue.

You pull into the resort first passing through the Palmilla development with private homes. It is very lush, well-manicured, and beautiful -- especially compared to some of the desert surroundings.

We were greeted immediately upon our arrival. We arrived quite early in the morning, so our room was not ready which was expected. Instead, we opted to eat breakfast at Breeze overlooking the Sea of Cortez. I did not realize it initially, but breakfast at OOP is included. We had breakfast at Breeze all six mornings we were at the resort. It was consistently excellent with very good service.

This first breakfast was the first moment we realized that there are more families and smaller kids at OOP than at LVP. At LVP, I recall seeing elementary and middle school kids sometimes at meals with their parents or families, but for the most part felt like we were at a fairly adult resort. At OOP, there were often toddlers and even infants at our meals. They were usually not an issue, but it does create a different vibe and ambiance.

After eating, we were able to check into our room. We opted for a Palmilla King Suite. This is one of the more basic rooms with a slightly upgraded view (higher floor). Walking to the room, you notice a few things. If you are wanting a more "natural/tropical" feel, the OOP probably has the edge over LVP. It's a much older, more established resort and feels more "authentic" or Mexican. We liked this aspect. On the other hand, LVP has a much more modern and polished aesthetic where everything feels very new and spotless and perfect. LVP is more impressive in photographs and is more "Instagram-worthy." As far as the grounds themselves, they are different from one another, and I don't really have a preference either way.

As for the rooms, they are very nice, but not amazing. This is one instance where I will give LVP a clear edge. Again, OOP is an older resort and this is an example of where its age is evident. The rooms are LVP were just much more modern and impressive. The rooms at OOP feel a bit more tired. They are a bit more colorful and authentic looking while the rooms at LVP looked like a recent architecture and design student had designed them.

At both resorts, your room comes with some welcome snacks and a small bottle of tequila. It was not made clear to us that these snacks were only for the first day, so we had a bit of confusion when we requested that they refill them. I don't remember how this worked at LVP -- not an important aspect, though.

One thing I liked better about LVP is that they gave you a full tour when you checked in. This helps give you your bearings and helps you plan your days. A tour was not offered at OOP. When we asked for one, we were ultimately given a map and asked if we wanted to walk on foot; they did say they could find a cart to drive us around, but it felt like it was not customary, so we decided to walk the resort.

There are two main pools at the resort as well as two beach areas. The larger family pool near Agua was very pretty and sprawling. We never used it, though, because we wanted to be with adults only. The adult pool is located centrally in the resort, but s quite a bit older and smaller. It is an infinity edge pool, but 85% of the pool is too deep for my 5'6" to stand in, including at the infinity ledge. The pool is 11.5' deep in some portions, which makes no sense to me for an adult pool where people want to stand around and have drinks and visit. The pool also has a 1990's feel to it. I am surprised they have not updated it. The "swimmable" beach was not that impressive to us; it was on the edge of the resort and felt open to the public somewhat. There were vendors walking along it selling bracelets and hats. We didn't want to contend with that. There is another beach closer to the adult pool that is very private and nice to walk on, but you cannot swim there. By comparison, LVP has at least five pools. Some of them are smaller and seldom used. There is one pool with a lazy river and waterfall that is targeted towards kids. There is a huge main pool that is gorgeous and walkable and has a beautiful view of the ocean. While it is not adult-only, I feel like it was mostly adults. There is also a nice adult pool located adjacent to the main pool where we spent a lot of our time. I would give LVP the edge when it comes to pools.

Service and the pools and the pool bars -- at OOP, I did not receive great service at the pool bar. It was typically staffed with only one bartender, and you could sit there for several minutes before being acknowledged. During this time, you tend to notice the weathered cabana, the aging appliances, the placed that need new paint, etc. The drinks were decent, but not amazing and very expensive. I had much better luck using the poolside waiters who were very responsive. Again though, I will give a slight edge to LVP here even when it comes to poolside service. At LVP, the entire staff basically anticipates your every need. At OOP, you often have to ask. At LVP, if you even begin to fidget with your chair or umbrella, a staff member comes running to help you. At OOP, they gladly help you, but I saw several people moving their own umbrellas and adjusting their own chairs with no assistance. Both places have very nice and capable servers, I just feel like the training at LVP is a bit different. Just something to consider at this price point and relative to your expectations.

The views at OOP are better. The resort is on a point and has a beautiful view of the ocean with waves crashing against the rocks. The view at LVP was not as striking or memorable. The resort structures and pools are more beautiful at LVP; the landscaping and views at OOP are more beautiful.

Food -- clear advantage here to LVP. Since it's been two years, I do not really remember the specific dining experiences at LVP, but I remember they were all quite good with no complaints. On the other hand, I had two dining experiences at OOP that were sub-par. Our first dinner at Agua was the worst of the bunch. The food was very bland and plain. Our server was friendly, but slow at times. I found at several of the restaurants that there were two places we always had delays -- 1) from the moment you sit down to when the waiter finally arrives and 2) when you are wanting to get your bill. I almost wondered if the staff at OOP has been trained to not ask you if you are ready for your bill, which I can understand at times. You do not want to feel rushed. But, there were several instances where it was obvious that are meal was over and that we were ready to leave, and we had to wait and wait for our bill. The other meal that was sub-par was the new omakase Hoshi. The setup is very slick and the staff and service was over-the-top attentive, but the food itself was very odd and just OK. I have eaten at a few omakases in Austin (where I live) that are much, much better. For the price paid, I would have hoped this food would have been a lot better. The restaurant is only a month or two old, and I think they are still figuring out the food.

Suviche and Seared were the best restaurants we ate at while at OOP. Suviche was solid sushi and nigiri with very good service and great recommendations from our server. Seared was the best food at the resort. We had a very light dinner there one night, but our steak was absolutely fabulous. Further, there was a sweet potato side dish that was out of this world and unlike anything I had eaten before. I highly recommend seared.

Our dining highlight, though, was the Mexico Magico experience that was offered in the courtyard by the pool Wednesday night. Unfortunately, they do not advertise this very well. We only found out about it the same day and that you needed reservations to boot. Fortunately, we were able to get a reservation. The food was traditional tacos, moles, margaritas, etc. They had a great mariachi band playing along with some traditional dancing. This meal really meshed well with the traditional Mexican feel of the resort and the beautiful natural ambiance.

Spas -- the spa at OOP is extremely nice, but also very expensive. I will give it the edge over LVP, though. I don't remember the LVP spa that much. I don't have any complaints. It just wasn't as memorable. The spa at OOP is quite large. They had a sauna, steam room, hot tub, cold plunge, co-ed pool, and casitas where you would have your treatments. My wife and I both went for massages which were very good. We also went back several times to use the facilities at no additional cost. I was glad to be able to do this, especially since our treatments were so expensive. We both had 90-min massages, and the bill came to over $1100. That was a bit shocking to me. I looked back at my LVP spa invoice, and we spent closer to $800 there. I don't remember if they were shorter massages, though. The OOP spa is nicer, more memorable, and more beautiful -- but there is a price to be paid for it.

One compliment I would like to give the staff at OOP is that they did request my feedback in a survey on my second or third day. I gave honest feedback and didn't think anything more of it. It was similar to this review -- everything is "very good" but not "perfect/outstanding." They took this feedback very seriously and made a conscious deliberate effort to improve my experience thereafter. I had several managers come up to me at meals and by the pool afterwards to check on us. They also subsidized my meal at Agua to apologize for my experience there. I also had one billing issue at the pool, and management did everything they could to quickly correct it. They put a lot of trust in me to be honest about the billing and did not quibble with me over a few drinks or small charges. It is primarily for this reason that I give the OOP 4.5 stars instead of 4. They do care, and they did their best to make it a memorable experience and vacation.

I would recommend both resorts, but it would depend on who I'm talking to and who they are taking with them. If you are traveling with a family, I would recommend OOP. If you are traveling as a couple, I would recommend LVP. If you put a premium on natural beauty and ocean views, I would recommend OOP. If you put a premium on the pools, the rooms, and the architecture/design of the resort, I would recommend LVP.

Last, as for service, I have to give the edge to LVP. Let me be clear, the service at both resorts is extremely above average. But, at LVP it is just next level. It is a smaller resort, and I imagine they have a better ratio of staff to guests. You will be happy with the service at both places, though, unless you are just unrealistic.

I hope this review is helpful to someone considering both of these resorts. They both have their merits. I would have found a review like this helpful when booking my trip.

This is by far the nicest place we've ever stayed. You are greeted by every single staff person with a kind smile, nod, and "buenos dias/tardes" as you walk the beautiful grounds, enter the resort, order food, etc. Each room is assigned a butler (Diego and Gemma went above and beyond for our entire family; we loved them) who provides 24/7 exceptional care and attention. We needed to borrow a phone charger, and they not only brought that but also a personalized cookie decorating kit for each of our kids with cookies shaped as the letters of their names. These cookies were a highlight, thanks to Mitzi in Guest Services! Turndown service is top notch, with slippers, robes, nightly keepsakes to take home, incense, fresh fruit, nuts, tea, tequila, and more. Free foot massages by the pool are offered to adults, which was the most gorgeous infinity pool I've ever seen overlooking the Pacific, where we spotted gray whales daily. Our kids (5, 9, 10yo) were entertained all week at the family pool, which included a splash pad, fountains to play in, hot tub, and near a ping pong table. We cannot say enough good things about the KidsOnly club, which is free. We didn't want to drop the kids off for long since we were on a family vacation but our girls loved popping in just for a half hour to make a craft as a souvenir. The food is pricey but delicious, with kid-friendly options and great seafood. We loved the gelato cart by the pool. We rented kayaks, boogie boards, and paddleboards for free on the beach, which was swimmable and breathtaking. Even the lifeguard was friendly and welcoming! Almost every employee spoke fluent English but we also liked hearing Spanish spoken since we were in Mexico and wanted an authentic feel. Casa de Abuela is a drop-in booth that offered daily coffee, tea, lemonade, horchata, and treats throughout the day. Each evening the executive chef comes to serve pastries. One night they also offered complimentary smores after dinner (with the most decadent dark chocolate I've ever tasted) over bonfires, with mulled wine and hot chocolate. This was by far our most favorite and memorable family vacation we've taken, mostly thanks to the service and staff at Palmilla. My kids are already asking to go back and we've only been home 3 weeks!

This hotel is one of the worst experiences I have received when it comes to this level of fine luxury hotel expectations. Compared to Aman or Six Senses resorts, this one falls short by far. We have stayed multiple times at Aman resorts and we wanted to give One&Only a try because we know the prestige that the hotel brand has. Unfortunately, it is not worth visiting at all and I am at awe at how bad it was. The hotel resort itself was very beautiful, but the service is very amateur and more like a 3 star quality. They were not very good at communicating certain things to guests. The personal host/butler did not live up to the expectations, and at times were very delayed at responding (Perla was ok, but Isaac was baaad). They are very delayed and sloppy with housekeeping as they do it super late where it's very inconvenient to the guest. On the day we played golf at the One&Only golf course, we left the room at 6:50am and the host should've known to let the housekeepers know to clean ours early. When we came back to the room around 10am, the room was not clean yet. So at 11am, we decide to get lunch and come back around 1pm, and the housekeeper is STILL in the middle of cleaning. I had to kindly ask her to leave but she didn't speak English so she kept cleaning while I had to take my work call. It was awkward and uncomfortable but I didn't have a choice. Another thing that got me so frustrated was that they had employees who are not actually bartenders behind the bar who do not know where the liquor bottles are nor can they identify what a Clase Azul Tequila Reposado is from the Añejo (which is odd, because this is in Mexico). We tried to order a glass of the Clase Azul Añejo and the poor guy couldn't find it when it was right in front of him. He also got a glass full of small ice cubes when he needed to have the big cube for an expensive glass of tequila. When I asked him for bigger ice, he said no we don't have. How can you not have that kind of ice when you have expensive liquor?? Oh I can name a lot more things that went wrong but it'll take too long to write now. We were so disappointed, we would never come back here. I would advise anyone who want to go to an ultra luxury 5 star resort, to not go here or any One&Only resorts, because your money and your time would be wasted.

This was our second visit to O&O Palmilla, and it did not disappoint. O&O Palmilla has become one our favorite properties, and we have stayed at many amazing 5 star properties around the world. While the property is absolutely stunning with meticulously manicured grounds that make you feel like you are in a tropical paradise, (I recommend splurging on an ocean front room with the plunge pool as the views are incredible. We enjoyed breakfast on our patio overlooking the ocean every morning), it’s the impeccable service and warmth of all the staff that set the property apart from others. From our initial booking to our departure, we were always shown a genuine desire to ensure that our stay was exceptional. Every person we interacted with went beyond mere professionalism and job duties, making interactions seem more heartfelt. We didn’t have a single bad meal. While dining in the restaurants was expensive, the exceptional service, ambiance, and culinary experience justify the cost. (My only critique of the restaurants is that they do not offer O&O house filtered bottled water that is provided in the room and at the casual dining options. Instead, they charge $20 for a bottle of water that is bottled in Mexico). The staff at the swimming pool and beach bar were extremely attentive. The staff always made sure we were well hydrated with either cold water or a refreshing cocktail (Berry Mojito spiked with Titos was a favorite). Like the ocean front room, splurging on a spa treatment for yourself is a must. Seriously, the best massage ever. My masseuse, Aricella (sp?) was amazing. The spa facilities are truly relaxing. My favorite spa amenity is the hot and cold plunge pools that are in a beautiful outdoor setting, and can be used even if you are not having a spa treatment. If you are a surfer or want to learn, I highly recommend booking with Tropic Surf, located right on the property. We had an epic surf adventure with Julien. Julien will find the best waves in the area, and take you there. Every night and day of our stay, housekeeping was flawlessly executed. Whether we left in the morning or left for dinner, we would return to a clean room or a completed turn down service. Lulu and Daniela were our host team, and went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of. They felt more like friends, checking in with us and stopping to chat when we would run into them around the property. I can’t wait to return!

I've read countless hotel reviews where guests speak of “unbelievable service,” and I've often taken them with a grain of skepticism. But let me set the record straight about One and Only: their service is one of a kind. Imagine a setting where the moment you get up from your pool chair, a staff member is right there to attend to your needs. Picture yourself under a shifting sun, and someone discreetly adjusts your umbrella every 20-30 minutes ensuring you're comfortably shaded. This impeccable attention to detail permeates every corner of this establishment from the very instant you step in.

Adding to our exceptional experience was our butler team, Ivan and Camilla. Their dedication is unparalleled, constantly checking in on us and fulfilling our every request. It felt like we had personal guardians throughout our stay!

Dining at the hotel was a delight. The food across all restaurants was top-notch. Though on the higher side in terms of price, it aligned with the quality delivered.

The property itself is beautiful. We spent most of our time at the adult pool, enjoying the serenity, but we did notice that the family pool seemed great as well. Our room, with its own plunge pool overlooking the ocean, added a special touch to our mornings, as we woke up to idyllic sunrises.

All in all, our time at One and Only was extremely enjoyable. We're highly considering a return in the future.

My husband and I just stayed at Palmilla through the Oct 21st Cat 3 Hurricane and the resort handled it all beautifully. Due to VERY high winds, rain and EXTREMELY rough seas, we spent much of the weekend in our room. At the height of the storm the staff asked us to stay inside, storm windows down for our security. Thankfully our room was very comfortable. We were given plenty of water and extra towels before our lockdown. Staff was very communicative and all meals were delivered (warm!) to our room until the winds let up and it was safe for staff and all of us staying there to return to the restaurant. They got everything back to “normal”, cleaning pools and walkways, lifting our storm shades, and preparing restaurants with amazing speed after the storm had passed and always with a smile and concern that we had all we needed for the best stay possible. A friend of ours happened to be in the area and we learned later that he was told he had to leave his hotel when the storm approached! We are so grateful to the staff at the One & Only for our uninterrupted stay even when their entire town was preparing for and cleaning up after a huge storm. Of course the day we left the resort and weather were gorgeous and we hated to leave.

This place is pretty magical. The grounds, landscaping, pools, and beach setting are amazing. Five stars all the way. Service also is five stars. Everyone is very kind and respectful. At first I wasn't sure I would like the personal "butler" idea, but it turned out to be a great experience. Diego and Paula were available if we needed anything, but they were not overbearing or intrusive at all. It was great to be able to just send a text and get answers, recs, and assistance almost immediately. My wife injured her knee on a hike and Diego was even able to find her some crutches that were her size! The only area that I wouldn't give One & Only Palmilla a "5 star" rating is on value. This is a high end property and it is expensive to stay there. I get that. I think the location, service, and grounds justify the high price of the accommodation, but additional food and drink costs seem excessive for many items. A single margarita by the pool ends up being close to $28 (w/ automatic 15% tip) and they are small and weak. A couple drinks at the pool and modest lunch for a family of 4 will set you back ~$300. At our first dinner we were charged almost $40 for 2 bottles of "fancy" still water when their house still water is perfectly drinkable and acceptable. It is not made clear that you have options other than the silly high price bottled water, and that just felt wrong and sneaky. I wholly recommend O&O Palmilla if you are looking for a relaxing vacation in a beautiful setting. Some things will seem overly expensive to some, but others might not even notice. I do feel very satisfied and would definitely consider a return visit.

The OO Palmilla is a really nice resort. It is obvious that all of the employees work very hard to make your experience a good one. It is a beautiful setting and the restaurants deliver.

Here's the thing, there is a very wide margin in service and other details between the OO and Las Ventanas. We have been to both several times, and this most recent visit to OO will be our last, as long as LV is around.

Here are the primary differences:

Service: The employees at OO and LV try very hard and are extremely friendly. The employees at LV simply have been under a much more rigid and sophisticated training program. OO has reactive service. LV and intuitive and pre-emptive service. In other words, they have it covered before you even ask for it. At OO you need to ask for what you need, even in very obvious circumstances, and the delivery is a bit clumsy at times. Again, not from a lack of effort on the behalf of OO employees, but for fairly similar price points and resorts that are less than five miles apart, OO is a disappointment when compared again LV.

Pools: The pools are key at these resorts as the beaches are barely useable, small and an after thought to the resort. The pools at OO need a serious refresh. The small blue tile pools were great in the mid-90s, but is time to upgrade. The coping and fake rocks just make it look cheap. The adult pool is 11.5 feet deep? Unless you are part of a diving team, I can't understand this. You cannot stand in 85% of the pool. Most adult pools I see are for leisurely relaxing and having the ability to walk around in the pool with a cocktail. That's not happening at OO.

Rooms: Bathrooms look about 25 years old and it is time for an upgrade. The blue tile plunge pools are an eyesore. LV rooms feel more like your own space at the resorts. Rooms at OO very much feel like you are part of a hotel. Additionally, room service items were just left on our entry for most of the day.

Again, OO is solid. It just can't compete against LV.

The hotel in general was good. The food was average at best and exceptionally expensive along with a wine list that had a huge mark up.
For a 5 star hotel the on arrival fruit basket in the room remained for 1 week with the staff removing the moody pies re on a daily basis , the last day one apple remained in a bowl. Not a bottle of wine,a cookie nothing.
The pool service was very good and attentive.
Overall OK but not of a standard that is provided by its competitors.

The butler will help accommodate or arrange whatever you need and they do offer unpacking and packing service though we didn’t take advantage of it. No questionnaire was provided at check in to customize our experience. The biggest issue was that the butler at check-in did not fully explain all the amenities available for us to use, for example, we only found out by chance on the 3rd day that we could use all the wet areas of the spa including the plunge pool and the small quiet pool which is included in the stay.

Super private and safe. No randoms wandering around or vendors trying to sell you stuff. 2 beaches. On the left more swim friendly and crowded but super nice. On the right barely anyone and still swimmable. Ocean in cabo in general is not for beginers and depending on conditions can be quite dangerous. We stayed at Nobu once on the pacific side and swimming in the ocean is strictly forbidden. I was so pissed they didnt tell us that when making the reservation. One and Only and Las Ventanas are the only place one should stay in Cabo is price permits. One & Only is by far my first choice!
