We stayed at shantitheeram for three days and two nights. Had an amazing time at the beach front home. Well furnished home which makes the stay soo comfortable and homely. There is soo much privacy and you have the entire beach to yourself . There were very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were well maintained.
The food from Surya residency was really good.
Totally recommend this place for people wanting some time away from the normal hectic city life and want to get some peace of mind. I'm sure we will be making a trip to kannur again atleast to spend some time with friends at shantitheeram .

Our family visited Shantitheeram, an amazing homestay and we stayed 3 nights there in November 2014. It was a totally a great experience for our family.....close to sea, it is located bang on sea front. The super classy furnished bed rooms facing sea with world class amenities and every service has a personalized touch. We were treated with tasty authentic food which were mouth watering and still lingers in our mind. Boys had great fun with fishing, beech football and many other attractions like drive-in beech. For me and Deepak it was such reassuring to relax and chill. Hope to travel again soon.

I am grateful to destiny for getting warned in advance of what to expect and deciding not to stay in this place. This is supposed to be a home stay which gives you to believe that the family would want to welcome you with open arms. But thats not the feeling what one gets while interacting with the owners son.
We are a group of Four families who wanted to book all their rooms for Three Nights in May and the quote that I get is Rs. 7000/- Per couple (WHICH IS THE RACK RATE IN PEAK SEASON).
When I pointed out to him that this was the Month of May which is completely OFF SEASON in the North Kerala belt, when most resorts and homestays are even shut for this period, he adopted a condescending tone telling me about his travels and talking to me like I was a country bumpkin who has not travelled before and was not aware of the reality.
When I requested him once again to reconsider the cost, considering the average costs in that belt as also the fact that this was off season, he informs me arrogantly that he was not running a Orphanage or here to do charity.
If asking for a discount on a rack rate of Rs. 7,000/- in the offseason is asking for charity and can make a person in the hospitality business speak so rudely, they definitely need to change their line of business.
But this I guess, is what happens when you have inherited everything and havent worked hard to create something.
Such arrogant people should not be in the business of running home stays and I am glad I was forewarned and did not end up messing up the holiday for all my friends and their families by booking in this place.
And if you check out their photos they are of the same standard as any other homestay on that belt, which go at half the rate !!!!

This place is totally NOT worth the money and the hospitality and behaviour of owners will put each person in Malabar region to shame! This was our WORST holiday trip and it is so unfortunate
During the stay of 1.5 days(we evacuated ourselves on 2nd day morning itself though she was charging for entire 2 days)as we had no privacy & had to put up through the verbal harassement and ill-treatment by the owner’s mother who runs the place.
We checked availability in 'Chera rocks' resort &they were fully booked. So the staff there suggested Shanthitheeram(ST).All good resorts in Mangalore-Karwar-Kerala stretch were fully booked during this time, &here is a grt looking website of a homestay with full availability. So inspite of the fact that the owner changed room rate thrice over the booking call and it was way above the rates in that area, we went for it , thinking kids will have a nice time in the beach & a homely feeling .
We were 2 families with small kids & drove down from BLR to Kannur in our 2 SUV's.Approach road to ST is extremely narrow &only one vehicle can pass at a time.We lost the way due to the brilliant directions given by the landlady &finally managed to reach ST at night 8.30PM.
Within 30mins of our arrival, the old landlady who is unbelievably interfering, started off boasting about her son(owner of ST)who is heading a company-Arbitron in Kochi. She blasted Indian tourists & said they only prefer foreigners. She was directly insulting & provoking us & we silently sat through the nauseating experience, respecting her age.
Toiletries in the bathrooms were were packed for major hotels/resorts in India and abroad.even the toilet paper in our room was flicked from Taj(Kleenex specially packed for Taj hotels!)Bathrooms already had several such used soaps by previous guests.Even the napkins kept on dining table had some hotel name in Kannur printed on it!!Next day out of curiosity when we asked her about this, she told her son travels a lot & showed a basket full of toiletries which he flicks(picks up in her language) from the hotels (even Emirates airlines) for using in their home stay.
Next day we set off to the beach early in the morning itself & found ourselves trapped btwn a bridge &slimy marshy land connecting to the homestay to beach. There was no other access to the beach & we had to cross the marshy place which had water seeping in from the drain(bridge is over the drain). The drain was filled with sewage& all other wastes from near by houses, mostly fishermen families.Beach was pathetic & extremely dirty.Drain was forming a canal & flowing thru the beach into sea. There was EXCRETA all around & we spotted people attending natures call on the beach YUCK!This was the dirtiest beach we have come across in Kerala ever.
In spite of charging so much the rooms were not cleaned, towels not replaced and the irritating lady said that she will charge very high for food(Rs.400 for rice, roti &one curry) &as we are the only guests & told us to go to hotel Surya (only nearby hotel).Rooms had no locks and a leather belt was stolen. When we indicated about the missing thing ,the old lady almost pounced on us saying the 2 workers wont take anything.we left this at it!There were no activities/facilities neither in ST nor on the beach.
So the advise is to avoid this place whether you are from India or a foreigner as they are there only to rip off your money and make you run away!!I regret that we took a hasty decision and chose this place and did not go thru feedbacks before booking.

We were a group of 20 from England and New Zealand for a family reunion and we had a great time. The facilities were excellent - beautiful rooms with AC, lovely pool and outdoor area to relax in and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had Raj as the manager and he was very helpful but quite clingy to our group but after we politely told him to take a step back, he listened and we continued to enjoy the rest of our stay. We organised a day trip on a Shikara boat through the accommodation and this was a great experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all very nice as well. They held a buffet dinner outside on new years eve which was a great night. Overall, a great place to stay and I would recommend it, especially for large groups.

I stayed in this beautiful home-stay with my family and friends for 2 nights.
The house is located next to beach. we went around for lot of fishing in the nearby rocks.
The house is very clean and ambiance is unbelievable. all the rooms have beach view. you can also step into beach in the middle of the night.
The lady of the house made authentic northern kerala food especially with fish.
The location is a also close to only drive-in beach in kerala - Muzhappilangad Beach.

We spent 3nights and 4days at this beautiful property. The overall experience was unbelievable. Be it the cleanliness or the hospitality . completely furnished with makes you feel at home. Personalised service where you have the chef himself take your order and serves you authentic food with finger kicking taste. A real treat for your taste buds. Surya residency, which is just 1.5km away is a must visit. The multi cuisine restaurant serves international standard dishes. Sea food is a super hit.
I highly recommend this beautiful property for those who love nature and want to rejuvenate themselves from this hectic and high pressure

Well appointed room with en suite bathroom in a big comfortable house by the sea. The deserted clean beach is only a few meters away, with direct access. Ideal location for a short break. The landlady is an attentive host. We stayed two days at the start of our South India tour and it was relaxing and very enjoyable.
