Nestled in a serene location that harmoniously blends with nature, Fairmont Mayakoba earns accolades for its enchanting atmosphere and immaculate cleanliness. Guests have called out the array of amenities, from the family-friendly pools to the luxury spa, as highlights of their stay. While many find the rooms spacious and well-maintained, some travelers mention service inconsistencies and noise issues. The hotel's value is occasionally questioned due to high food prices and additional fees, despite the quality of the facilities and the commendable service provided by attentive staff.

My wife and I visited this property this past week for a long weekend with friends. We booked the beach area casita specifically for location on the property and the included butler service that we had heard so much about. Location is great, you’re far from the lobby area, but steps away from the pool, Brisas beachfront restaurant and bar and of course the beach. The room was a well appointed and spacious King. Huge garden style tub with a glass vestibule around it that jutted into the surrounding jungle so it made it feel like you’re bathing in the jungle. Worth noting there is a privacy wall so no worries about prying eyes. The walk in shower was also huge and had 3 shower heads you can use, including a rain shower head. Now the best for last. The location and room wouldn’t have been any where near as enjoyable without our dear (new) friend and butler Daniel Gonzalez. Our every need was anticipated and met with a smile and prompt results. Anytime we asked Daniel for anything it was always to our room within 10 minutes or less. And 90% of the time it was Daniel himself delivering what we needed. This guy is literally everywhere, all the time. You would swear he would have to be sprinting all over this vast property to be so ever present, yet I never saw him perspiring. I’m convinced he has a twin brother. It’s the only way he could deliver such results. Daniel met us at arrival and saw us off at departure. He arranged our transportation, he made our dinner reservations, he saved chairs for us on the beach and pool. He made sure we had plenty of bottled water, he arranged for our boat tour of the property, he brought us more hangers for our closet. He made my golf tee time and caddy request. He booked my wife’s spa treatments. Daniel does it all and does it with a smile and just super genuine pride in his job. Daniel is super knowledgeable about the property, the wildlife the vegetation, the local area, all of it. Do yourself a favor and book a room with butler service and request Daniel. He tended to our whole group and yet he always made you feel like you were his only guests. Daniel is the cherry on top and the whole sundae too. We will be back and Daniel will be our guy.

I recently returned from 6 days in the Mayakoba with my family and it was an absolutely wonderful trip.

The grounds throughout are beautiful and kept in pristine condition. The crew was always clipping the bushes and planting to keep it looking in tip top shape.

Every employee that we encountered was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make you feel welcome and to make sure that you didn't need anything additional.

We split most of our time between the Adult pool and the beach. There was never an issue getting a chaise lounge whether in the sun or shade as we have people in our party with different wants. The beach was a bit windy at times just to be aware.

All of the food was very tasty and the restaurants have an amazing menu assortment so you don't feel like you keep ordering the same items. My mother and brother one night were craving a hamburger and even though it wasn't on the menu, they were able to accommodate this request. It is worth it to do the breakfast buffet with the endless assortment of options.

We booked the Casita suites on the lagoon and they were so big. Each room had a living room, patio, bedroom with king size bed and walk in closet and 2 bathrooms. It is worth it to get a larger room (even though I am not sure what a standard room looks like). I loved the all glass shower that made it feel like you were outdoors.

This was a great family vacation that we didn't want to leave and a hotel where we can see ourselves being repeat customers.

My husband and I traveled to Fairmont Mayakoba at the end of September for a long weekend. We could not have been more impressed with the safety precautions taken at the resort and the upbeat attitude of all the staff. I never saw anyone working at the hotel without a mask on (properly above nose and over mouth) and felt very safe the entire trip. I will note almost all of the hotel is indoor outdoor which was is great. All staff are masked and some also have gloves/glasses. We moved rooms during our stay to be closer to the beach (the large pool and that restaurant were closed when we went) and both rooms were very clean and had wipes, hand sanitizer and gloves in the room. We worked a bit from there and appreciated that the delux casitas have a little desk and office chair which we used. The room size and layout is nice but a little dated/tired.

Besides the precautions they are taking we had a great trip. The Mayokoba development is beautiful and we went on long walks through the property and on the beach daily. The food was amazing, we planned to check out other properties for meals but ate at the Fairmont for everything! Cannot recommend the Korean BBQ dinner enough. We had a lovely meal on the patio at the Italian restaurant and loved the beach restaurant and beach menu for lunch. As a lover of hotel breakfast buffets I was nervous how they would accommodate the same feel at breakfast but it was great - order from the menu and get additional sides/smoothies and bread (we had breakfast included in our stay). For those who are planning on enjoying drinks I would look into the all inclusive package which is a great deal. We did the math and came out just under what we would have spent all inclusive but I am not a big drinker (if I was it would have been worth it!).

The only minor nit was our check in/check out process. From the service we received throughout our stay the check in/check out seemed off. It was a bit disorganized and required a good bit of waiting which was frustrating masked around a big group of people who have just been traveling. I know they will try to make that better in the future.

We are already looking into another weekend in early 2021.

This was our third trip back to the Fairmont Myakoba, and was as wonderful as ever. This is our annual splurge, and we always go for either beach area or beachfront casitas. The properties are beautiful, and the included butler service is more than well worth it. Our butler, Julia Shwarz, goes out of her way to make sure our stays are special, with reservations, room preps, special surprises (celebration recognitions), ideas for activities. We love biking on the nature trail, the boat tour, and the food. Brisas for breakfast, afternoon bar hangout, and dinner, all great. El Puerto wonderful asian latin fusion dinner. Fairmont has the nicest stretch of beach on the Myakoba property (there are three other resorts) and groom it daily. Highly recommend the all inclusive package, almost everything on all menus, including all top shelf alcohol included. Those few that are not have minimal increment cost. We'll definitely be back again,

I stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba with my wife and two kids for nine days over Christmas. We had a fantastic time at this hotel, the most outstanding feature being the service, they truly know how to make you feel right at home. The hotel itself is beautiful, surrounded by lush gardens, water canals and mangrove trees. The beach is well kept, white sand, cristal waters, not too crowded (we visited during high season). Moving around the property is fairly easy with nice walkways and an efficient system of golf buggies.

Details are:

The number one feature is the service, from Edgar at the breakfast and banquets always ready to help and accommodate your needs, with great sense of humor and genuine interest in making your experience as pleasant as possible. He was always making sure we were aware of the events happening at the hotel (Christmas dinner, beach BBQ at night, Brazilian BBQ, etc) and making sure that had a good table and had what we needed during those events. Rodolfo at the beach always ready to place you in the best spot possible despite a very busy time of the year, making sure you are comfortable and keeping you in mind if new spots become available, bringing extra towels and day beds if needed every time. The rest of the staff at the beach (Edy, Nicolás for example) were extremely helpful and always pleasant and ready to help. Arturo the chef at the Korean grill at the beach for great food, service and atmosphere, for us the best restaurant at the hotel.

Things to improve:

The reservation system for the restaurants and the events did not work well, a few times we had made reservations with the concierge and they would not show up in the list held by the hostess at the event or restaurant. At a time we were told by the concierge that there were no tables available at a restaurant only to find later there was ample availability by speaking directly to the restaurant.

The service at the reception and concierge was a bit impersonal and removed in sharp contrast with the service in other areas.

Some of the amenities in the rooms did not work well (closet doors that did not close properly, thermostat in the air conditioning that did not work well in one of the rooms, mosquito nets in the balcony had some holes which did not allow us to open the windows...). Choose rooms in the upstairs floor of the casitas for better view and privacy, we were given a downstairs rooms despite insisting at arrival that we wanted to be upstairs ( again front desk and concierge service not as sharp as service in the rest of the hotel).

We stayed for 2 days, during their re-opening week. As soon as we landed from Miami, our temp was checked twice at the airport. Then at the hotel access gate, and lastly in the lobby. They had a handwashing station there and our luggage was taken to be sanitized. We were given a bag with sanitizing wipes, gel sanitizer, and disposable face masks.
Every employee was wearing a face mask AT ALL TIMES and guests were encouraged to do too. Check-in was impeccable, they disinfected a pen for us to sign the papers, which was the only direct contact we had. We were kindly helped by PENELOPE choosing a room to be upgraded to. Ty so much, a pleasure to meet you! Also, Gabriela who helped us make the reservation only. You two were amazing! There were sanitizer stations EVERYWHERE in the hotel; at the restaurants, the receptionists would kindly offer gel sanitizer as well when welcoming you. They also cleaned the golf carts after each use. They didn’t have all restaurants open yet, but it was more than enough and the menu was very good. To avoid the physical contact they offered the menus through QR codes. This method was also used for the resort map and the required government form to be filled out before departure. Inside the room, the remote control, coffee cups, glasses, etc were all inside closed bags. Also a special thanks to our amazing butler Gerardo! Everyone at the hotel is so kind, well educated, and trained that make you stay a dream Can't wait to come back with our kids too!

Everyone went out of their way to provide caring and friendly service from the front desk to the golf cart drivers, bell staff, cleaning people and all service staff at the restaurants, beach and pools. Every person had a positive attitude and wanted to make sure we were happy where we were with what we were getting. The rooms, grounds, chairs, towels and pools were all extremely well cared for and clean. I chose breakfast included rooms and the food was fresh with abundant selections, made to order and delicious. The hotel was fully booked but there was never a problem to get beach or pool chairs. The hotel's lush, tropical terrain is maintained so beautifully. The gulf water is clean, with a soft sandy bottom and gorgeous, the beach is relatively private and out of the fray of Playa del Carmen proper, and the pool is designed with many semi private areas to relax at. Water shuttles, golf carts and bikes are all easily accessible making getting around quick and easy even if your room isn't on the beach.

Overall we had a great experience and a very much needed break during COVID. The staff were amazing, including Daniel who checked up on us every day and responding immediately whenever we needed help.

I wish we knew that only 2 restaurants were open on the resort and that the rest of Myakoba was closed off to people staying at Fairmont. Granted this made sense given COVID but it would've been nice to know, which I didn't find after scanning their websites and social media pre-arrival. This limited the food options, but we were more than happy to drive out to Puerto Morelos for more options.

We paid a much lower rate than the normal price for a Beach area casita, given COVID, so the state of the room wasn't something I felt like I should complain about. However, even at $300 USD a night, the room had a very moldy smell, the patio doors were really dirty on the outside and there were chunks of wall missing at one of the bedside outlets. We've stayed at various five star resorts located in similar jungle/beach areas and never encountered something like this, especially the moldy smell. Regardless, we were very happy to just get away and we didn't want to waste time complaining. This would've really bothered me if we paid anywhere close to the normal rate for this room.

Overall, the staff made us feel very comfortable with the precautions they took with mask wearing and felt like the property pulled out all the stops to make it feel relatively safe despite the raging pandemic. Great stay, just hope the property fixes a few things in the rooms to feel like an actual 5 star hotel room.

We had an amazing time and can not wait to come back! From the moment we arrived every single person that we encountered was welcoming, eager to help and so friendly and nice. From the guys putting towels down at the pools and beaches to the servers and bartenders at all of the establishments, all provided great, friendly service.

The resort is the prettiest place we have stayed and we loved that they kept a lot of the native plants, especially the mangroves! It was so beautiful and relaxing to drive/bike through them on the way to the beach, it really made you feel like you had escaped the rest of the world and were in your own little paradise.

We thoroughly enjoyed all of the food and drink options, all of the restaurants were good and had a nice variety of options. The bars were stocked with premium brands and each one had a specialty cocktail menu with delicious and interesting drinks, (not just margaritas/pina coladas/daiquiris, although you could certainly order those as well!). Irvin made the best “Watermelon Ride” at the pool bar. Luis and Baruc made our dining experience at La Lugano and Brisas great. Shrimp tacos were are favorite. Jose at breakfast was very helpful... the list of our favorite staff goes on and on.

There are bikes around the property that you can use to get around as well as a few large golf carts that are constantly driving around the property, we never waited more than a few minutes for one to arrive. The beach is a nice bike ride away, we enjoyed that aspect of the property, but you are not “on the beach” like other resorts. There’s a boat tour every hour that goes through the canals of the Mayakoba property that we loved and highly recommend, it’s a lovely property and you get to see even more of the natural beauty of the place, as well as some of the native wildlife (birds, crocodiles, fish, etc.). Our guide was wonderful, so informative and chatted with us about our stay/where we were from/etc.

I've stayed at many resorts and this one tops the list. There's usually a few (or many) little to big things that detracts from the overall experience, but I can honestly say that the Fairmont Mayakoba thought through every single thing to deliver the best resort experience. For example, all their carts and boats run on electricity which is more environmentally friendly, but also very quiet with no gas / fuel smell.

One thing I really appreciated was that EVERY request was followed through very quickly - in a manner of minutes. Nothing slipped through the cracks. They also add little touches everywhere. I got a facial and when I was in the sauna, an attendant hand delivered a natural exfoliate for me to use.

David was our butler and really so helpful and professional and kind. He was really more of a concierge or that's how we used this service, asking logistical questions and for help setting up various meals or events. He would check in every day with us and really responded to any request in less than 5 minutes (usually right away). Our number one objective of this trip was to have a restful, fun time with our family and with David's help, we really got to do this.

The hotel is beautiful and wonderfully highlights the natural environment. We've stayed in the other areas nearby and having all the greenery and canals really made everything so restful and peaceful. It wasn't just beach all the time. It is a large area, but there's constantly carts going around that you can quickly hop on and off. We had a stroller, 3 y o and 8 month old with us and got into the routine of doing this in a couple of minutes. Very easy. You can also choose to walk the grounds or ride the bikes lying around. It's also very family friendly. We got a high chair, diaper pail, bottle sanitizer, baby tub, etc in our room to use for our stay. I also liked how all the bathrooms at the hotel had a changing table, diaper pail, and stool for the sink. But at the same time, it never felt overrun with kids. There's an adults-only pool and a kiddie pool with slide and, in general, so many areas to hang out, that it never felt crowded or loud. There are quite a number of free activities you can take advantage of too, e.g., boat rides, catamaran, etc.

Best spa experience for myself getting a facial and for my husband getting a massage. If you sign up for the loyalty program you get a discount.

Beautiful beaches and great restaurants. Every single person working at the hotel always greeted you with a smile. The service was also top notch.

We will definitely be returning to this resort!

Hi Beth! Were you able to get answers regarding Tauro? We actually did not have the pleasure of dining there last July when we visited. I believe they are open just a few days a week, perhaps Thur-Sat. To be sure though, I would email the wonderful team at Fairmont Concierge for clarification. On our trip we dined at Gaia, which is the fine dining seafood restaurant. It was a wonderful experience. If you are traveling with young kids I wouldn't recommend this spot. We put our kids in the kid's club, which they loved, and enjoyed an early dinner at Gaia. Our favorite spot was the breakfast buffet every day at La Laguna. We also dined at Fuego, outside beach dining, but beware, dine after the sun goes down, otherwise the flies are insane!

Is there somewhere on the property where we can buy diapers?

I did not see any type of store; I couldn't even find post cards. There was one clothing type store close to the beach but that was it. I went to the little town but didn't see diapers there either. The cheapest post card they had was $10. if you can believe that! It was not an ordinary plain cardboard card but that was what I would have preferred. Needless to say, I did not buy or send any postcards.
