We could walk to very good restaurants for one of our meals (two of three are provided with the room). The resort's restaurant offerings were always of high quality and the staff was friendly and helpful. Internet reception is spotty and one needs to go to the library/reception area to use the internet. Breakfast/ Lunch can be eaten overlooking the...

We had a great time at the Mahekal. The staff was fantastic! Very friendly. The rooms were very nice and clean. The resort was quiet, which was just what we were looking for. We did have to change rooms as a family moved in a few days after we got there that had an infant. Not much sound proofing between...

Stayed as a couple in Mahekal Beach Resort in January 2014. First impressions were very good, the staff was friendly and the palapas are located right next to the sea side. The PALAPAS are really nice and aithentic but AUTDATED WITHOUT TV, PHONE, WIRELESS, INVERTER AIRCON (NO HEATING), NON OPERATIVE FAN, WATER LEAKING, CAN REALLY HEAR THE STRONG WIND, SOUND...

We appreciate your comments and would like to fully address the issue pertaining to the odor. From time to time especially for a few weeks right after heavy rains and the beach recedes, the area’s cenotes are full of water and decomposesd Mangrove material is forced into the Sea. This causes the odor that your experienced. We want you to...

We paid nearly $700/night for a beach front bungalow that had no TV, Internet, phone (even to the front desk) and very little privacy. During a rain there was water on the room floor. The semi private plunge pool was cold. While the bungalow was right on the beach, beach chairs were set up right next to our entrance for...

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. You have stayed in a Deluxe Ocean Front Bungalow, a unique unit within our resort. It, and all cabanas at Mahekal are inspired by the Mayan style of thatched roof, overlooking the ocean, having a king bed with organic fabrics and hand embroidered pillows. Furnishings are made of native tropical hardwood. Because...

I am not a big all inclusive kind of a gal, so I love the smaller venues. Mahekal was romantic, clean and just what the doctor ordered. We were within walking distance of all the happenings on 5th avenue, yet we had the privacy of an oceanfront palapa with hammock included. They did offer in room coffee service for $5/day...

We had a wonderful time here. Amazing environment, great food and helpful staff. We loved everything about this place. This is for You, if you are looking for a hidden paradise (not hotel-chain like). The location is perfect: right on the beach, very close to the main shopping street but in a quiet small street (opens from the main shopping...

This is a great resort close to all the shops and restaurants of 5th Avenue. Breakfast and lunch are the way to go! And they will serve you lunch and drinks right on the beach! We never ate dinner but heard differing opinions. Better to go out to dinner in town. We spent 6 nights as a couple and really...

So accessible from Cancun, the Mahekal offers you privacy, beauty, rest in hammocks or on the beach, hearty and healthy breakfast and dinners, just blocks from the hotel is miles of entertainment, food and shopping , and a staff that is so caring. It is the foundation of a perfect day.

We stayed at the Mahekal Beach Resort from 1/22-1/29/14. I had stayed there in 1991 when it was known as the ShangriLa Caribe. It has grown quite a bit under the present management, which has owned it for about 5 years and also owns the resort next door, Las Palapas. About the resort: our opinion is overwhelmingly positive. They have...

Immaculate. Beautiful. Great service and food. Small and friendly. Great beach. Perfect location. Near enough to walk to restaurants and shopping but out of the hub-bub. The palapas are not luxurious (no mini-bar, etc.), but they are immaculate and the furnishings are very nice. Wi-fi in the reception area worked fine for sending and receiving e-mail and texts. My wife...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mahekal Beach Resort is a legendary resort village located on 800 feet of white sand beach in the heart of vibrant Playa del Carmen. It has 198 thatched roof, palapa-style bungalows within steps of Fifth Avenue, the celebrated entertainment, shopping, and restaurant district of Playa del Carmen. The thousands of loyal repeat guests at Mahekal Beach Resort describe it as magical, memorable, and authentically Yucatecan. Our style is friendly and relaxed, a unique Caribbean experience where you can rock gently in a hammock on your private terrace and enjoy undoubtedly the best beach in Playa. Our guests love the fact that we have never compromised our truly unique ambiance and style. In keeping with that style, our rooms do not offer televisions. Instead, they feature original, brightly colored, Mexican tile bathrooms, private terraces with hammocks for siestas and star gazing, and locally-crafted Mexican wood furniture in an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy our magical sanctuary. The Resort offers meal plans that include breakfast daily and lunch or dinner. This choice gives our guests the opportunity to explore the many dining options in Playa del Carmen. ... more   less
