Our family stayed for 10 days, this is our 3rd time back at this gorgeous hotel. The food, the pools, the nannys, the spa, the beach!! It’s all superb in many ways. We had the fortunate to have Carolina Herrera as our personal concierge and she took care of us in every and all aspects! With a smile on her face she was always there for us, making sure every day was perfect and helping us enjoy all the virtues of this magnificent hotel/experience!

Thank you very much, Frank, for taking the time to share with us your family's joy on this, your third stay at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. I am sure what brings you back for more is the consistency in service and product that you find on each trip. We focus entirely on maintaining superior levels of quality in our buildings and common areas, culinary tour, Spa, and of course, service. Our compassionate and highly-trained service is the magic that enables everything to flow in sequence and harmony. Carolina, your concierge extraordinaire, is a magnificent talent. As the director, I am proud to say that I am blessed to have many Carolinas, all very proud to serve and all wearing the Grand Velas uniform. I hope that your fourth stay at Grand Velas Riviera Maya is just as fulfilling as the first three. You can be assured that Carolina, and all of us, will be at your service for all your vacation needs. Thank you and take care, RODOLFO GONZALEZ DIRECTOR GENERAL GRAND VELAS RIVIERA MAYA

With four nights to sink into the spirit of Grand Velas Riviera Maya, I finally had a chance to get what this resort is all about. Here are my tips, if your budget will allow...Book a Grand Class room if you are traveling without children. For Grand Class, request a ground floor suite with Plunge Pool. If you are traveling with children, book a higher floor in the Ambassador Section. If your budget won't allow Ambassador with children, check out the Zen section, slated to re-open in November. While Zen is a little inconvenient for visiting the beach, it's got an amazing pool and a cool jungle vibe. Close to two special restaurants and the SPA. (Do plan to visit the spa for one service and get the hydro-therapy ritual complimentary with that.) Rooms were everything you would expect. Well thought out and huge. Super comfortable, perfect service every day. Food in the premiere restaurants was really good, and I can say the food and wine selection of included items is the best at any all-inclusive on the Riviera Maya. Azul (the all day buffet restaurant) was a little disappointing and felt sterile, especially during COVID precautions, so check it out, but relay more on poolside grills, poolside food service from your waiter, and hopefully soon, the re-opened Bistro in the Adult section. Make sure to make all of your dining reservations in advance of your arrival. Very important! Don't let me forget the Room Service. This is where this hotel really felt 5 star. We had room service every morning for Breakfast, and the selection was huge, and the food always delivered piping hot. Great coffee too! Last but not least, the Grand Class section of the hotel gets you your own personal concierge. This is a real luxury, in that you can text your concierge with any questions, requests, etc. and they will answer or provide you with what you need. Our concierge, Carolina, was so fun and efficient. COVID protection is as good as it gets...Test to re-enter the United States is free and they set it all up.... If you are looking for the best all-inclusive on the Riviera Maya, this is it.

Thank you very much, Becky, for sharing your informative insights with other potential guests who, like yourself, are looking to pamper themselves after months of adaptation. Your points will be very helpful to others as they include all of our ambiances, Grand Class, Ambassador & Zen. All three will be necessary to have in operation since our forecast looks very promising for the rest of this year. And just to point out, Becky, you will also be assigned a personal concierge in our Ambassador and Zen ambiances just like you enjoyed in Grand Class. We look forward to continuing to be your "best all-inclusive on the Riviera Maya." Until next time, we place ourselves at your faithful service for all your future vacation needs. I just spent an 8 day vacation in Mexico with my husband and 5-year-old son. We spent 4 days at the Grand Velas and 4 days at the Andaz. I originally booked the Fairmont but when I found out about the extensive renovations, I bailed and switched to the Andaz. I will review the Andaz separately. 1. Room- We originally booked an ambassador pool room and got upgraded to a grand class room. It was a huge, gleaming room with luxurious finishes and a giant bathroom, but overall generic. The giant veranda and oceanfront view were beautiful. The plunge pool was perfectly warm. The rollaway bed was already there when we arrived and appeared comfy. The beds were nice but the pillows were too squishy. I love the l’occitane products although not eco friendly with single use plastic containers. The next door Mayakoba hotels have attempted to minimize the use of single use toiletries. The minibar was stocked with many guilty yummies and a variety of alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks and restocked every day. 2. Property- I felt very safe with COVID precautions and how empty and spread out the property was. It is large but easy to navigate. It was a 5 min walk from our Grand Class room to the Ambassador pool. It was a quick shuttle ride to the Zen spa. Everything is well maintained and beautiful. It was very manicured as opposed the the more jungle feel of the Andaz. I imagine the Zen area has a more jungle feel as well. The swimming pool is gigantic and beautiful but cold. There is a very shallow part of the pool that is slightly warmer. The beach is pretty and the massive amounts of seaweed that wash up overnight is cleaned up by about 9 or 10 AM. 3. Service- The service is excellent. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. It was not quite the caliber as the Rosewood but still exemplary. There is a service charge included for everything however we chose to leave an extra tip for everyone in pesos. I didn’t feel pressure to do this but I felt it was deserved. Our concierge Carolina was awesome. She was easy to reach and responded quickly. She accommodated all requests with enthusiasm and without hesitation. 4. Family friendly- my biggest disappointment and I will be the lone voice of dissent among the entire internet. The restaurants are not kid friendly. There are no kids menus. On the first night we ate at the “family-friendly” Frida. My anxiety shot through the roof when I noticed all the tables covered with white table cloths and covered in delicate stemware and flatware. My son could have easily created a disaster with a small yank of the tablecloth. We resorted to giving him the iPad for dinner. I didn’t use the kids club for dinner (reason forthcoming) but others did. This dinner was so stressful that we canceled another dinner reservation to order room service instead. The kids club was a disappointment. The first time we tried to introduce the club to my son the only thing the employee said was “do you like Nintendo switch?” No introduction, no interacting or warming up to him. We played switch as a family for a little while but no employee came over to befriend my son the entire time. There were no other children there so there should have been plenty of time for a staff person to play with my son. Sadly, my son completely rejected our attempts to leave him there that day so that we could enjoy some time as a couple. The next day, I dropped my son off to workout. About one hour later, the staff called me to tell me that my son wanted to leave. I don’t mind that they called. It’s just disappointing they couldn’t manage to keep him entertained for more than an hour. Thankfully we had a babysitter for our spa visit and Cocina de Autor dinner or those would have surely been ruined. I would say that unless your child is independent or has friends/siblings there, the kids club is not going to be a reliable child care option. On the other hand, our babysitter was very sweet and trustworthy. Another non-family friendly feature- There are no real suites. An option is to book a side by side room but I couldn’t stomach the idea of paying almost double the high room rate just for a 5-year-old. Lastly the pool was too cold for my taste and there are no hot tubs (at least at the ambassador pool). This might be trivial to some in April but when there is nothing to do at 10 AM for your child and this is before the sun really blazes and the cool ocean breeze is chilling, you will want a little warmth in the water. My son lamented how bored he was multiple times. All in all- I was very much ready to move on to the Andaz when our 4 day trip came to a close. I will not be bringing my son back to the GV anytime soon. 5. Food- We enjoyed almost everything. Cocina de Autor was marvelous. The tasting menu and paired drinks were so delicious. My husband has a tree nut allergy. Not only did they omit tree nuts, they designed new dishes for him. This dinner was one of the highlights of our trip. Frida was also tasty except the grilled octopus. The presentation and texture were a miss for me. The room service was outstanding. They have a wonderful bakery and all of the pastries and breads were superb. We had room service for every breakfast and one dinner. It always arrived in a timely fashion, well presented, with many accompaniments. It was nice to eat in the peace of our room on the beautiful veranda and let my son be a kid instead of glued to his iPad. On a similar note, I wish more of the dinner restaurants had outdoor seating. The only one I am aware of is Azul. 6. Spa- DIVINE. My hot stone massage was amazing and I felt like I was on another planet. My husband loved his draining massage. The hydrotherapy circuit was really fun too. I went through twice during my stay. One time prior to our treatments and another time because it was included in our rate. I believe one circuit is included for all guests. The GV spa beats the Rosewood spa except the rosewood spa is open to all guests for unlimited use even without booked services. Also I enjoyed the guided experience of the hydrotherapy the first time but it would have been nice to use all the facilities freely without a guide. The Rosewood has attendants but they let you go with your own flow. Treatments are superior at GV. 7. Areas for improvement- Again, the kids club staff needs to be retrained. They should ideally strive to become friends with children instead of just supervising. Also, it would have been nice to have our plunge pool cleaned during our stay. It became murky and collected debris during our 4 days. The Andaz pool sparkled from beginning to end. Summary- For adults looking for relaxing all inclusive luxury in a classic setting with great food, GV fits the bill. For families with a single young child I would pass and stay at the Andaz. For over the top 5 star luxury, the best possible service and more of a unique experience, I recommend the Rosewood.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts and observations with other discerning travelers and, just as meaningful, some insightful details for me, the Director. As a family-friendly resort, we consider guests of all ages to be important. From multigenerational families to the newborns that arrive, we do our utmost to provide close attention to the happiness and enjoyment of everyone. In saying that, I am very grateful to you for bringing to my attention your son's experiences at our Kid's Club and for his lack of culinary choices at our dining venues. In both areas, I will be sure to revise those matters, notably that of our Kids Club, which is generally quite the highlight for many little ones. On behalf of the management and staff of Grand Velas Riviera Maya, I apologize to your family for not meeting your expectations, in particular, those of your young son. I hope that the many positive aspects entice you to return in the future and see for yourselves that we truly do listen to your comments. Until then, we wish you a safe and excellent summer in Madison, Wisconsin, and place ourselves at your service for any future vacation need. RODOLFO GONZALEZ DIRECTOR GENERAL GRAND VELAS RIVIERA MAYA

Grand Velas is an outstanding resort. We spent our 7 day honeymoon here in late April 2021. Despite being damaged by three tropical storms/hurricanes in late 2020 and the devastating effect of COVID, this resort has impeccably restored itself (and work continues now). The oceanfront room with private balcony and plung pool was spacious, immaculately clean and tastefully appointed. The kind bed with its soft luxurious sheets was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. What sets Grand Velas apart is the phenomenal food and personalized, attentive service through out the resort. The four elegant restaurants (Piaf, Lucca, Covina de Autor, and Frida) were outstanding. (Shin Len was still being renovated) The chefs are word class. Every dinner was a gourmet experience. Service is very attentive. Wine and drink selection is very good. Each day, a chef prepared and presented special lunches by the pool, which are served to you at your beach chair or in the beach cabana. One day was better than the next, and all were outstanding (E.g., grilled steak, lobster tails, rack of lamb, just to name a few). Highly recommend the spa services at the Zen Experience. The spa is unbelievable. Plan to spend extra time in the Water Ceremony (steam, sauna, polar plung pool, etc). The most extraordinary aspect of Grand Velas is the personal service. Our personal concierge, Carolina, was an absolute delight. She made us feel as part of the family. She made all arrangements for us, and checked in on us each day at the beach and pool! It was like having a family member doting on you to ensure you’re enjoying yourself. The staff is well trained and takes great pride in the high level of professionalism of their service. They were warm and friendly. Many greeted us daily by our names! We met another family from Canada spending 10 days at the resort. They have returned multiple times! This is resort is a must for discerning travelers who value an extraordinary experience, great food and warm responsive service..We’ll definitely plan to return.

For us, it was a genuine pleasure to provide you all the elements that make the perfect setting for a loving honeymoon. As you have noted, we came through very nicely from those two storms last year. As a disciplined organization, we keep sharp by performing simulations on a regular basis. And many of those guests from last year expressed their gratitude and admiration to us on this very same forum. Concerning the worldwide effect of Covid-19, I must say that we have adapted impressively with our training, implementation, and perfection of our non-intrusive sanitary protocols. And as you now know firsthand, we have recently implemented on-site Covid testing for those traveling out of their countries. Add to all our safety precautions, our beautiful 5 Star amenities, breathtaking spa, and "world-class chefs," and you can truly enjoy yourselves with the peace of mind that you are in very good hands indeed. As always, we place ourselves at your service, RODOLFO GONZALEZ DIRECTOR GENERAL GRAND VELAS RIVIERA MAYA
