The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences comes highly recommended for its cleanliness, with guests frequently applauding the pristine state of rooms and common areas. However, some visitors have voiced concerns regarding room odors and maintenance issues. The location is mostly celebrated for its easy access to beaches and shopping, despite occasional complaints about mosquitoes. While the atmosphere strikes a balance between calm and vibrant, the noise level can sometimes be bothersome. Service is praised for staff friendliness, but marred by inconsistency and reservation challenges. Moreover, guests are often disappointed by hidden charges diminishing the perceived value of their stay.

An honest review on my experience.
We were a large family arriving for a family holiday Christmas break. We arrived during the evening, and were met by lovely staff that took our bags ready to take to the room.
There was a bit of a queue at check in, but my wife and I were very pleased that we got an unexpected upgrade as we were also celebrating our 50th anniversary year.

The rooms are lovely with a kitchen, cooker microwave and well stocked fridge with beers, water, and soft drinks, however not one spoon, knife, fork or plate anywhere! Apparently you can have some, but at a cost.
We had a lot of trouble with our shower not giving the overhead large head enough water, so our day normally started with a little dance in trying to get wet. We did report it, but it didn’t get resolved!

We were a group of 14 and felt that it was really important that we could sit together on Xmas day for dinner, but this turned out to be a real problem. There is absolutely no restaurant reservation system in place so for a lot of the holiday we were having to eat separately, sometimes in separate restaurants.
I must say that the manager did resolve for us on the 24th so we did end up eating together, although it did cause a lot of stress for some of my family members. I would love too have seen a nice salad bar in the buffet restaurant but sadly it was very American themed.

The resort is very clean and well maintained. Another major problem for me is the sun bed situation. The culture of bed hogging is rife here. Many times we were going to pools or the beach to find the beds reserved with towels and a flip flop or the like is extremely frustrating. We found situations where people were taking beds with towels, and then never using them! It should not be allowed. Any unaccompanied towels should be removed.

There was another frustrating evening on Xmas eve where entertainment was going on in the busy square, but they wanted to charge us a crazy amount to sit in certain chairs that no one was using.

Overall I would say 4 star at best on our stay, with great staff, nice gardens, but a number of relatively easily fixed negatives!!

The resort is nice, the landscape appears well maintained, the pools are salt water and are regularly cleaned. There are a number of pools, neck deep, some kiddie pools of reasonable size by villa #5. There's a forested area with walkways in the near the plaza. That's where the monkeys, coati, and agouti live. Our room had AC issues, there're two AC units in the room, if one broke down it wouldn't be a problem but both had issues which required changing rooms. It was a hassle to pack up and move however the concierge was helpful and did not give us problems about changing rooms. Sometimes when you roll the dice, you get snake eyes.

Security seems ok, we didn't notice any red flags to be wary of. The room comes with a safe where you put in a 4 digit pin to lock. We thought it was fine for passports and cameras, we generally kept our valuables with us at all times. We bought a dry bag online to keep valuables, make sure it has some air in it when you close it so it floats. Because dry bags get really hot in the sun, it's not good to put a cell phone in it unless you can keep it out cool and in the shade.

Regarding the beach, the sargassum appears to be a natural disaster for the whole region, I believe there're months where it's not so bad so maybe this can be planned around. At this location, the workers raked up the seaweed as best they could but it was still not enjoyable, we spent most of the time at the pools. They have an area that is blocked off with giant sandbags, presumably to help control the seaweed intrusion, the water within the barrier is calmer and suitable for children under supervision, there is a channel for jet ski's to exit that people with children should be wary of.

Restaurants were good, we mostly ate at the Italian, Thai and Japanese restaurants, the buffet (Flavours) is good for breakfast but we didn't like their dinner. For lunch there was no indoor dining, one had to travel to the beach and order from these outdoor shacks. At every dining, the waiters made sure to inquire of food allergies, although it's not useful at buffets.

The employees were nice. We had no issues, most of them spoke English, we asked for directions for the children's club from a landscaper who didn't but he still tried to help and didn't brush us off.

Regarding tipping, we regularly tipped. It's fine to be cheap, giving something is better than nothing and we saw a lot of people give nothing and we saw tourists with attitude problems. People working here are trying to make a buck to feed their families. In general, we tipped 100 pesos for each room turnover, 100 pesos for dining, 40 pesos for buffets, 20 pesos for drinks. As for where to get pesos, you can get it from your local bank before leaving the country. You'll end up with large bills which you can break into smaller denominations when you arrive at the front desk.

We have just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at Fives. Beach. This place has something for everyone and what really makes it a great experience is the amazing staff who could not do enough to ensure a great experience. All of the staff whether house keeping and gardeners or bar/ restaurant and reception staff are welcoming and friendly and say hello.

The resort is set in beautiful grounds, including a mangrove through the middle with an array of wildlife, and swimming pools running through all of the villa blocks. We had a one bedroom residence at the back of the resort in a peaceful setting. Our apartment was spacious and had a partition which divided the 2 bedroom areas. Our apartment was a 5-10 minute walk from the beach but there was regular electric carts that ran round the resort continuously. The beach outside the hotel and running several kilometres in either direction, was not crowded, and was beautiful and spotlessly clean with safe areas for swimming and water sports.

We spent most of our time around the 2 large swimming pools by the beach where there was always sun beds available helped by the hotel’s policy of not allowing guests to reserve them with the towels provided each day.

The food options at the hotel were first class with options for all tastes from the many restaurants. We rarely had any issue getting a table at the restaurants and when we did would have a drink in the nearby bars while we waited to be called. There were many options for lunch close to the beach area which changed daily.

Overall, our stay was an extremely enjoyable and relaxing experience and we would highly recommend this resort. We felt it offered good value, especially compared to all inclusive hotels we have been to at a similar price point in Europe.

We stayed in November, 2 couples, booked together, paid together and arrived together. On arrival, we were told we were in different blocks, whilst at reception, a family were complaining they had no hot water in one block, and another couple were complaining, as vegetarians, they were given Pork, Alarm bells started ringing.
After a lengthy discussion it was agreed that we would go back to reception the following morning and be allocated rooms in the same block. On entering our room, it smelt damp and mouldy, there was a puddle of water on the floor from the air con, with long dark hair in it, defiantly not me, I'm blonde! The shower was also dirty. Our friends room, was a narrow shoe box. We continued the night and slept well, Beds and pillows are lovely. In the morning we went back to reception to be told the hotel was full, and no other rooms were available for us, so after another very lengthy conversation, 2 rooms magically appeared in the same block, next door but 1 to each other. Finally we could relax in block 15, ground floor, with the swim up pool, which is freezing, by the way. The beach is an 8- 10 minute walk from this block, through the rain forest, which is beautiful, or the Taxi buggy, was always around to hop on. The drivers were lovely. For the first few days the we had to chase for the maid to come in, as we were getting missed.
The main pool at the beach is lovely, although cold, we struggled to find sun loungers and on the Beach too, so resorted to early beach runs to save sun loungers. The Beach is also lovely, sea is a bit rocky. The staff round the pool are fabulous, and will supply you with drinks all day, and work extremely hard. There are several different choices for lunch and normally a themed lunch going on, the beach BBQ was my favourite, but be quick. Had an issue at the beach, which Andres sorted out and resolved promptly, he was great, brightly dress and always happy. The restaurants are ok, you have to be prepared to wait for a table, maybe an hour, but we went earlier and factored the wait in, and had a drink 1st. We we're extremely disappointed with the Mexican restaurant, in Mexico, it was bland and boring. The Thai was lovely. the French and Italian restaurants were ok. The buffet was about the best of all, lots of choice and no waiting, just had to ask for Salt & Pepper every time. The Gin bar was also great, made my way through the great selection. There is not enough outside seating for the evening entertainment, so you end up standing up watching shows, or walking round looking for a seat for ages. The entertainment was ok, nothing special. My husband had a problem with the beer, he said the pipes were not clean, so asked for cans, which eventually he got. Most of the staff are friendly, reception need a little lesson on smiling. I am disappointed with the hotel as i was very excited to go, but i think it is just too big for us. Especially with the Residences side to it. There is also nothing outside the gate to walk to, just a 7 Eleven a 15 minute walk away. Would i go back. NO.

Sometimes you get so used to mediocrity that when you experience the opposite, it seems too good to be true. This was our 5th time in Mexico and first time at the Fives.

WOW!

The food is likely what elevated our experience. All the a la cartes were first come first serve and all the meals were presented like you were on a tv show. There are options for every palate, including Lizzards for the health focused travelers.

We were generally at breakfast before 9am and dinner before 6pm - the only place we ever encountered a line was at Arezzo. We lined up 20 minutes before it opened and there were people in front of us.

We kept going back to La Brasserie for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We loved trying all the different a la carte dessert options.

Mexican night on Saturday was a really fun experience with stations throughout the plaza for you to taste local beverages, food and dessert/candy. Nightly entertainment is available in the Plaza and the main show starts around 8:15 pm.

The entertainment staff at the pools and beach are energetic and attentive but not at all pushy (shout out to Chris at the Palmas pool). I have to say every single staff member we encountered here was friendly, helpful and professional.

There were lots of fancy options available but we booked the regular room and it met our needs (2 adults and a teenager). BUT, if you are shy about your bathroom activities, beware, the toilet and shower are behind frosted glass doors but the bathroom area does not have a door. the toilet flush is LOUD. The shower pressure is fine but not powerful, the temperature is lukewarm during the day and warms up at night.

Drinks are good with lots of roaming wait staff in the plaza and by the beach pool.

Beach looks to have experienced some erosion and they have a seaweed problem they are trying to manage. If you are a beach person, you may be disappointed but there are many salt water pools to make up for the inconvenience.

WIFI is free and strong, even down by the beach. Only soft serve at the ice cream shop is included. Marley coffee shop, the juice bar and Casa de Nova are not part of the all inclusive plan.

Not a lot of bugs here.

The monkeys and coati were a fun surprise.

You can definitely get your steps in walking around the resort but if you prefer, there are shuttles that move around the resort regularly.

We’ve finally found somewhere we would want to visit again and will miss when we leave tomorrow.

A wonderful time with family and friends who all gathered to celebrate our nieces wedding
The actual wedding celebration was beautifully organized from the rehearsal dinner to the ceremony to the reception
The food at this resort is some of the best we have ever had at an all inclusive
The service is excellent any issues were taken care of immediately….
The rooms are spacious however the bathroom / shower area could use more hooks to hang towels and possibly a bench
The beds are a little firm and the pillows definitely could be upgraded to a better quality
The balcony although huge and comfortable could have a rack dry bathing suits etc
The drawers and dresser are ample and it’s probably the first resort where we were had room for all of our clothes
The restaurants were all delicious although the system is not very efficient long waits and no reservations the buffets were excellent however for most days they closed them for lunch and dinner this is the first resort I have ever been to that did this which in my opinion was absolutely ridiculous it made for a lot of Hangry people as the waiting to get into a restaurant was so long
Plus in a buffet you can always find something that will satisfy your appetite
The beach and beach restaurants were great the beach staff servers are fantastic shout out to Miguel and Rosita to name a few
The grounds are beautifully kept
The beach towel system is excellent
Roland’s at Lizards restaurant a star 🌟
Ernesto and Mariana at Santa Sirena the restaurant in the adult hotel Fives Beachfront next door were excellent
Breakfast servers all great Rosa , Yolanda Maritza plus many more
Now the Ambassadors these guys made our vacation so much smoother and special
We went to a presentation of the Epic Club this is not a time share but a membership it took only an hour we were brought to the beautiful Fives Beachfront next door and honestly had we been younger would have given this membership more consideration it was only an hour and not pushy at all
For this we received massages and Bally bed and the opportunity to have a delicious dinner
But more than that these ambassadors helped us with any and all hiccups
Luis ( full head of hair;)
Luis ( bald :)
Adriana another true professional 🌟
I almost forgot the Spa !!!! Best massage ever from Anna ❤️
All in all a very good time was had by all

We went to this hotel for a special occasion after doing a fair bit of.research as we were spending more than we usually do and wanted to experience the Caribbean.

Overall we had a very relaxing holiday and that's what we wanted

The room was outstanding, really comfortable and even the mini bar was free.

The hotel is built over a large area and it grew on us each day we were there. The best bit was walking through the mangrove on the decking paths to get to the beach from our room and seeing monkeys swinging across the trees, racoon type animals foraging and turtles swimming in the crystal clear pools.

There were lots of restaurants. We had hoped to book the Italian restaurant for our special occasion but unfortunately you weren't allowed to. We turned up one night at 7pm and were told there was a two and a half hour wait despite there being loads of tables free. This is because there are owned apartments and timeshare owners who are allowed to reserve the tables as they have to pay for their meals separately. Very disappointing. We had to go before 6 to get a table straight away. However the French restaurant was exceptional and we were able to get straight into it. The food and service there was superb.

Generally we found the service slow particularly at breakfast where it took ages to get a coffee and rarely got asked if we wanted a refill.

We spent a lot of time on the beach as there were always sunbeds available and the sea was really nice to swim in though there was quite a bit of seaweed. There was food available on the beach and a bar which was all good.

We did get out of the hotel going to the temples at Tulum, visited a mayan village and swimming in an underground river and this was great, the guide was brilliant

The staff were all really friendly and they really looked after the grounds. There were a few power cuts whilst we were there and quite a few weddings but they all added to the experience.

We did feel let down by the Italian restaurant and the beach in regards to the seaweed and being a bit rocky. However all in all we enjoyed our days at the hotel and the atmosphere of the plaza in the evening. They had some brilliant musicians up to 8pm but we didn't really bother with the entertainment after that, just sat and chatted over a drink watching the world go by.

In summary we had a great holiday it just wasnt the Wow we had hoped for.

Just back after 10 brilliant days away in this resort. Food was on point. Plenty of choices and service was fantastic. Staff here work so hard to make your trip amazing. Always smiling and very welcoming.
There are numerous restaurants to eat at throughout the day and night, mostly table service with fantastic menus.
The adults only bar (1910) was our go to in an evening. Premium alcoholic drinks, fab cocktails and the 2 barmen were a pleasure. Vibe in here was spot on.
Not going to single out any particular restaurant as for us, because every single one was equally good.
Wood fired pizza on the beach was a quick and easy fix, as well as the burger and hotdog takeaway.
Our room was plenty big enough and had the added benefit of a swim up balcony. Perfect after a long day lounging about on the beach.
Room was cleaned to a high standard daily and air-conditioning ensured the room was a cool place to relax.
The beach at this resort was probably the best stretch in the area. Staff worked hard to keep it clean and tidy. Sunbeds were available but if you arrived after 10.30, you may struggle. People did put towels out, but the staff did go around removing them if people put them down and didn't return after a while.
In short. Probably one of the best all inclusives I've stayed at in the Carribean. Would definitely visit again.

We stayed here with my family (adults and teenagers) for 8 days for my cousin's wedding. We have gone to playa del carmen and Cancun several times as a family and have stayed in several different hotels. The grounds are beautiful and clean, I loved the jungle area and the beach has no seaweed. We had a one bedroom suite, my mom had a swim up suite, my brother had a penthouse suite and my cousin had a deluxe room so I had a chance to see what all the accommodations were like. I must say having a swim up suite is worth it as the pools close at 10pm so it's nice to have your own pool. House keeping was really good they cleaned our rooms everyday. Also shout out to Fernando who helped us with our booking and made that part go seamlessly as well as the front desk at check in was great. They have many many pools which was also fantastic so you are not crowded in one pool. The wedding was perfect thank you to Yen (wedding coordinator) and Irma who did my hair.

This hotel was supposed to be a 5 star hotel we had "epic" but never saw our ambassador and our "butler" never responded on the WhatsApp. They have a lot of restaurants but only 4 are open everyday and if you come after 7pm with more than 2 people in your party there is a 2 hour wait. The restaurants close by 10:30 and only room service is available and we did order every night with at least 1 hour wait. One night after the wedding I'm not even kidding we ordered at 12am and we received our food at 3:30am. They also let locals at the beach so on the weekend the small beach is very crowded with families who are not staying at the resort and you can hardly walk on the beach.

Overall, I really wanted to love this hotel because the grounds and pools are very nice but if you are coming with a family keep in mind you will have long wait for restaurant unless you eat at 5-6pm. Everyone is working really hard but maybe they shouldn't book the hotel with that many people if they cannot accommodate. I understand everyone is working hard and it shows the waiters were very stressed. The only waiter who seemed like he was not having a bad day and who actually gave good service was Javier at the Brasserie.

The hotel is in excellent maintenance conditions, as other users mention, the concept is very different from all the hotels I have been to, it is like a small city, small in quotes, the extension of the hotel is very large, they transport you in carts golf courses that pass approximately every 7 minutes, thanks to our driver Vertin, always so friendly. The part that I liked the most and that surprised me, was a space like a natural jungle that you can appreciate walking along a beautifully built wooden path, from which you can see some free specimens of the local fauna, if you are lucky you can even find monkeys!
It has several restaurants, the most practical is the Flavors buffet, you don't have to wait long, there was an Italian night, I loved the pasta and the pasta cook was a sweetheart; Only the lady at the meat and seafood grill didn't look very happy. Of the other restaurants, I really liked Koh Thai, food of good quality and presentation, the best was the service of our waiters Marco and Gregorio, what a pleasure to find people who They love their job! Another nice restaurant is Natura, in the shape of a palapa, the best pork belly I have ever tried! The restaurant is adults only, it also has an adults only pool outside, there are many other pools.
The room was very spacious and pleasant, we stayed in a villa, kitchen (without any utensils, I suppose because of the all inclusive), dining room and sofa, independent of the bedroom and bathroom.
The beautiful beach, with a small boardwalk, we witnessed a wedding, anyone's dream.
At night the dance and fire show was excellent, the live music in the main square was very pleasant.
Everyone was very friendly, even the jewelry guy at the Pier store, thanks Sebastian.
Thanks to all the staff who made our stay pleasant.

Most restaurants are included, but it is difficult to get into the best restaurants They don't take reservationsat at any of the restaurants and it is not unusual to wait for several hours to get into the best ones.
