Mia Reef Isla Mujeres offers a vibrant atmosphere, with nightly shows and music that guests find entertaining, although some have noted the noise levels and room conditions detract from the experience. While the beachfront location receives high marks for its scenic views and exclusive access, opinions on service and amenities are mixed; some commend the attentive staff and food, but others are let down by maintenance issues in the rooms and erratic service.
Travelers often feel the hotel does not provide good value, pointing to overpricing and persistent upselling.

Detailed Reviews
This was a perfect fit for us. We didn’t need the 7 different restaurant type of hotel like in Cancun. There is a restaurant or two always open and a main bar location. The food wasn’t fancy but there was plenty of variety which made it easy for all of us. We haven’t gone to their two restaurants because they take reservations up to 3pm and We always forgot while at the beach. The ceviche bar was nice, open from 1pm-6pm. The hotel had an event every evening which was really fun. Their local evening with the mariachi and Mexican dancers was fabulous! My kids were stunned by the fun& music. The hotel is super close to the Main Street. Walking distance of about 10 minutes. We did it with the kids and stroller. The beach is a winner. Really that’s the best reason to go to this hotel. It is shallow, beautiful, no crazy waves. Really gives the opportunity for parents to relax. If you have extra room in your bag bring the snorkel. The kids club offers sand toys as well. Nothin much to do in the club besides that. Staff is great. The hotel provides kayaks and peddle boards which was fun. They have beach seating and plenty. You can ask for an additional umbrella if you need it and sit first line to the water next to the children. You can rent golf carts for an additional charge. It is really worth taking it once to drive around the Isla. The hotel isn’t huge like the ones we were in at Cancun so everything is so much easier and calm. No lines and no stress. Really great! The reason I gave the 4 stars is because we stayed close to the elevator. Don’t do that mistake ever! The noise from the elevator is horrible really and you should check that upon checkin. We were lucky we had our white noise machine for the kids. Rooms are very small on the 7th floor and the two beds provided are double size and not queen so take that in consideration.

I don't even know where to start. We traveled as two couples for a week, stayed in the ocean front villas. From the moment we crossed the bridge we were hooked. Front desk staff were so welcoming and we were given ice cold cervesas upon arrival. We were not pressured at all about vacation club as we simply said we were not interested, never asked again. They also did Covid testing at the resort daily, $38 US for antigen testing with results emailed that evening.
Our rooms were quite large, nicely decorated and the fridge was stocked with beer, water, soft drinks and snacks, everything restocked daily. Our view was absolutely amazing, looked out over the Kings Pool. Our housekeeper was Alex, he had our room cleaned and stocked daily, never any issue with anything missing.
We only ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel per our choice so I can't comment on evening meals. Breakfast was good, areas always clean, staff super friendly. We did eat lunch inside a few times and that was also good, the made to order pasta was fabulous! Three times a week the Cevicharia was open in the afternoons...SO AMAZING!!! Otherwise we had burgers, nachos, wings and ribs, all very good.
Our main waiter on the beach was Reuben, I can't say enough about this man. He never let out drinks get empty, he would see us coming in from the ocean and have our drinks waiting for us. Always a smile an his face, we even moved to be in his section 💕. Shout to Manny, Luis and Misa they were awesome as well we just didn't have them as much as Reuben.
This was the first resort we've been to that we never spent any time at the pool. The ocean/beach area is so beautiful you don't want to be anywhere else.
I can't say enough positive things about this place, we left a little piece of our hearts there and we can hardly wait to return, for the first time ever we are seriously thinking of becoming members.

Stayed in the ocean front villa, beach is beautiful and shallow, the resort service (workers) are truly amazing at making sure yur taking care of,the beach is open on the resort, 7/2/20 , they spray you down with a disinfectant and give u hand sanitizer through out, and ALL the staff wear their masks, only at 30% full (which is great) but the sunsets and sunrises are the BEST. Had a massage which was amazing, over all we would come back here for sure! For what we payed (8nights all inclusive with airfare and transportation to and from the airport and ferry for 2 people was only 2500.. not bad at all , if yur deciding where to go try Mia Reef... it's more quiet, layed back.. a true vacation

My husband and I just returned from 4 nights stay at Mia Reef along with 2 other couples for NYE and overall, our experience at Mia Reef was okay. The biggest pro is obviously the location surrounded by serene waters in Playa Norte with beautiful reefs. However, it's a popular tourist spot so by noon, the waters are filled with people and lots of children. There are no adults-only areas and lots of family's, children, tourists, snorkelers everywhere. The resort plays loud music all throughout the day so it's a very busy atmosphere, not very relaxing. Overall the service was good and staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The food is very average, not the best quality and they only have one restaurant open each night that you must make a reservation to dine at before 3pm. We tried doing that twice and couldn't get a reservation so the only option with all-inclusive is the buffet which is not good. We ate out for dinner every night outside of the resort.
Our room (Ocean View Deluxe) was also very average, the bed very hard/firm and uncomfortable and pillows felt like plastic. Our friends didn't have any hot water for 3 days and the dresser furniture in our room nearly fell over on me multiple times when pulling out the drawers, just very cheap. The view was beautiful and the balcony chairs are very nice. The room is spacious and had the basic necessities, just nothing special.
The elevators in the hotel make a very loud rumbling noise every time they run up and down so my friends who were staying in the room next to elevators had to move. We were 2 rooms down from elevators and could hear it very clearly all day and night. We put a white noise on and put ear plugs in to muffle out the noise.
The gym is oddly placed facing the elevators so if you plan on working out, all guests coming on and off the elevator will see you very closely. It's awkward.
The pool is often shady with not much sun because it's right in between 2 buildings, and full of children splashing around. No hot tub either.
Overall, I think this is a fine hotel for families and children. The shallow beaches make it enjoyable for little kids to swim and play. Not very enjoyable for adults and couples. It could really use a makeover to freshen things up and update the property.

I’m not usually a picky person, but the food sucked it was the same food day in and day out pretty tire some no variety.
We paid for a deluxe ocean front room not sure if that is what we received it was hard to differentiate between the rooms. The rooms were clean and kept clean you knew when they were in. The fridge was always fully stocked. The drawers that they had in the rooms would tip over, go back to how to use a file cabinet lol
When were arrived a they say they offer a welcome drink, never saw one until we were walking to our room and mentioned sure would like a beer then the bell boy brought out two beers there was four adults. They say they offer bathrobes in the room did not see one of those either.
About three days later people that moved in next to us were smoking and I’m allergic to smoke so we asked to be moved. There was no issue there but they showed us the room that we would be moving to and when it was time to move they didn’t get the room that was showed to us.
No one took time to show you around the resort. The restaurant they say that they have that is Mexican and Italian is one of the same they alternate days one day would be Mexican and then the next would be Italian.
Some of the staff were fantastic and others well what can you say. The Blue Moon Bar they looked after the people that sat at the bar all day long, and the ones that came to get their drinks from the beach were ignored. That all depended on who was behind the bar at the time.
Would I come back to this resort my answer would be probably not there was, nothing to do in the evenings besides walking into town.
Golf carts had to be booked early if you want one. We were sent into town to rent a golf cart from a place the resort uses and we were told they did not insure you but the resort says that you are insured for the golf carts.
The ocean and beach were beautiful.

Arrived 1 hour before check in and planned on having to wait for our room. They checked us in right away and our room was available so that was a bonus. Room exactly what I expected. Bathroom little small for me but didn't come to this resort for the bathroom size. Our view was amazing. Food was good. Had lots of options for both breakfast and lunch. Liked the fact that there was always food and/or drinks available any time of the day. The beach was beautiful. There was always enough beach space for the people there. The pool area was in the shade most of the day. That was a downfall but there was always the beach. The staff was amazing. From the front desk answering an American that does not know Mexican history very well on "Who is the women on the throw pillows" all the way to the dinning/bar and cleaning staff. Rosaria who cleaned our room was nice friendly and very attentive when we did see her in the hallway. The gentlemen that stocked our refrigerator daily knew we liked a certain drink and snack so he made sure it was there everyday. The bar staff, Luis, Isaac and all the others were AMAZING and fun. Nico in the dinning area always made sure we had what we needed and our drink glasses were never empty. The entertainment/activities started at 10 am daily till 10 pm and we finally came to the conclusion that Mike that ran the entertainment/activities must live on the resort property because he was always there running things and making sure everyone was having a good time. I've been to a couple resorts/hotels for many vacations in the USA, EU and Mexico nothing has come close to the hospitality experience we have received at MIA REEF.

I have to say that I was there this past weekend and it was amazing! My daughter, my fiancée and I had such a great time. With all of this Pandemia we thought it was going to be so difficult to be there but the people at Mia Reef Make you feel right at home everything is so organized clean and put into place for the guests to feel and be safe. All the employees are well covered to prevent the sprees of the virus and I would love to come back as soon as my wallet permits it, that by the way the prices are not so bad at all.
Thank you for all the amazing service 🙏🏻

Visiting here for a week.
It’s a great location but services are weird.
Everyday I have to call the receptionist for them to come and clean myroom or I would come back from the beach at 4 pm and found my room still not clean. Today I called at 2, asking them to come and clean it by the time I come back at 430 it’s still not clean and my son is exausted and cranky and ready for a nap.
Just unacceptable and terribly annoying
Also have a friend coming to visit , they are staying at a different hotel and they would only allow them in the lobby.
Whatttt??? What kind of policy is that?
And for beach towel you need to get a card, if you loose it you got charge $30 per card.
What kind of high end hotel is this??
Towels for god sake!!! Really??
This is t a cheap hotel
Very disappointing.
I can overlook that some wall and shower that is falling apart but not dock that are broken and unsafe with rusty nail sicking out!!
Want to like this place but not with this kind of customer service.
It’s u acceptable

This trip was a last minute replacement for another that was canceled. Mia Reef is not the most luxurious resort on the island but the staff makes up for any shortcomings. The staff is attentive and congenial. A few of the activities are not available because of Covid but DJ Mike and Rodrigo kept us busy when we weren’t exploring the island on our golf cart (you should definitely rent one), lounging on the swinging beds, or drinking at the pool. “Bar” Jesus and Luis kept the drinks coming in the morning and Jorge and Saul at night. These guys were phenomenal!
The food is good, just a bit repetitive. It’s mostly buffet right now so book a dinner in the restaurant all the nights you can. Hans took good care of us when we ate at the restaurant to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The pasta bar is delicious and the grill is open at every meal. They’ll cook things just the way you like it. If you want something just ask. The cooks specially prepared fish tacos for our group one night and they were amazing! Outside the resort we at Asian Caribe (try the ginger ice cream), The Joint (enjoyed the house band and the coconut shrimp), and Oscars (come hungry!) all of which I’d recommend.
The rooms are fine. Who spends much awake time in their room anyway? We had an issue in our room that was promptly taken care of in a way that exceeded my expectations. If you aren’t used to sleeping in a small bed, be sure to ask for a room with a king at check-in. The rooms all had spectacular views so that’s not an issue. The AC condenser vented onto our balcony so the AC had to be turned off if you were on the balcony. Also expect the light switch to be outside the bathroom behind the door! This is super aggravating but set your expectations now and it won’t be a problem. I loved the refill on the mini fridge each afternoon.
The location of the Mia is superb-beautiful beaches and fantastic views! The King’s Pool is an easy spot to enjoy the ocean and see a few fish, snails and sea urchins. There are a lot of birds, as this is a nesting location, poop can be an issue but I love birds so they don’t bother me. The snorkeling with DJ Mike was a highlight. I saw a stingray, crabs, lots of fish, urchins, sea stars, and even a barracuda.
Away from the resort you definitely want to visit the Tortuga farm! You can buy a conch shell or wind chime along the road here for super cheap. We did the ice bar and it was fun but most of the group only lasted 10 min, so consider that in your planning. The “ruins” are not worth the trip or the $3 but the view is.
We had a wonderful time at Mia Reef Isla Mujeres and would recommend it as an enjoyable And beautiful get away.
Went here for my honeymoon and was beyond happy with my experience. There were a few minor problems with the hotel room (flushing toilet would made a bad noise, shower head would let water out randomly, water from sink faucet didn’t flow smoothly) but it was all overlooked by the clean beach, extraordinary service and location of island and hotel. Had Jerry serving us dinner all 3 nights and he went above and beyond (husband absolutely loved him). Very private beach, not a lot of people at any given time and was the cleanest beach/water I’ve ever seen. If you are up for some walking, there is good souvenir shops down the street and could walk to the ferry if you didn’t want to pay for taxi. Every staff greeted us at every entrance and even brought drinks to us at the beach. Great food and drinks. Staff was also available to book activities/ tour reservations. If flying from Cancun, you’d have to take a taxi to the ferry, ferry to the island, then a taxi to the hotel (could be expensive if you want to travel to Cancun multiple times). The view is truly worth the trip. If you are interested in a calm beach vacation and don’t necessarily mind a few minor flaws, this is an amazing place.

Yes. The room I stayed in had an adjoining room. However when we check in we couldn’t get two rooms that adjourned. Maybe you need to request in advance!
Yes! The hotel screwed up my return travel and there was no taxi waiting for me at the ferry terminal on the mainland to get to the airport. So tread with caution.
My room had a shower, no bathtub.
