I have been here for 4 days now with 3 more to go. It has been recently remodeled and it shows. We have a family room with two single beds and a bunk bed with a private bathroom. The wifi is good,we have a small desk, and lock boxes for your valuables. There is ac which is remote controlled , no TV or refrigerator but there is a common kitchen area if you can find room to store food in. The blackout curtains are nice and complimentary soap, shampoo, and hand gel are provided. The beds for me are hard but that is subjective so it doesn't really matter. Its also very clean which is nice. You can add breakfast with your reservation which is fresh fruit, eggs, toast, and coffee with juice and lemon water. Anything else is extra. My only problem is the noise. We face the courtyard and people speak/yell at all hours of the night/day. Last night, it rained and a party happened in the common room most of the night. Nobody stops the excessive noise so it can be difficult to rest. I used ear plugs and still could not drown it out. I have friends staying further into the interior and they heard the same thing. Granted, its a hotel/hostel but in other places I've stayed that are similar, they had a cutoff for noise and it would be enforced. Not here. Also, wearing masks seems to be optional for employees and visitors though all signs posted say otherwise. Its well located, clean, inexpensive, and the employees are nice its just that if you want quiet, this is not the place for you. If you can handle the noise and can sleep like the dead, I think you can have an enjoyable experience.

Nice hostel in a great location on the island. The layout of the hostel is cool, with a large pool, hammocks, dining area, kitchen etc. There is access to a beach but you cannot swim as it is a red flag beach. Staff in the restaurant section were friendly. Dorm rooms were very basic but had a locker and charging point. Our dorm smelt very damp when we arrived and the beds were also damp. The common shower/toilet areas could be improved, as they were dirty and some parts of the hostel could do with a lick of paint. However, overall it was a great spot to stay. The parties were great fun & they also had movie nights etc.

Honestly, I was there in 2013 (I had to enter a fake recent date to post) and it was cheap and perfect. Rough around the edges, but inhabited by the bohemian minded. Now it looks like it got a major renovated and just looks like a gentrified hotel. And expensive to boot.

That said they had really great music, in the courtyard, every night from talented locals (and not mariachi, but quality contemporary). After that you could go to their beach where. for 11pm to whatever, you could dance to the sounds of a dj. The great thing was that those beach club vibes did not interfere at all with those sleeping in their rooms, due to the setup.

Then, in the morning, as you walked out to the beach, the mini dance floor was used by the Yoga teacher, as the partygoers were crashed in the hammocks or the beach.

Chill place. It was a dream to finish your vacation and wind down or up depending on your mood, and not worry about your spent budget. Oh well! All things must pass.

Let me preface this by saying we’ve stayed at 7 Selina hostels across Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama, so we know the brand well and had certain expectations. I’m specifically commenting on travelling as a couple, staying in private rooms.

First — the food.

Our favourite thing about Selina hostels is the food & drinks: great cocktails, grilled chicken, grilled veg etc. The food on offer at Selina Isla Mujeres? Mediocre pasta & pizza, and a few burrito-style snacks. Fine for a bite by the pool, but a waste of money for dinner.

The pool area is beautiful, but the pool was dirty of each of the 5 days we were there. It’s not so hard to make sure the pool is free from hair. There’s also loud music playing at night, so watch out if you’re after a relaxing time.

The rooms

I booked a standard private room, which in photos is a beautiful wood-paneled room, with a cute shower, and a window overlooking palm trees and/or the sea. In reality, our room was like a dark, dingy prison cell. Everything smelled damp, and the room was on the ground floor right where guests arrive, meaning we didn’t open the curtain for the duration of our stay. A big shame and so different from what we expected — especially at €70 a night WITHOUT breakfast or local taxes. With these 2 included, it ended up being about €90 a night — way too much for what we got.

The service

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect was the service. Staff at the restaurant were moody and rude whether you spoke in English or Spanish. This wasn’t a one-day thing — we felt actively discouraged from ordering anything. One day, the music at the bar at 11am (!) was loud and people were working, so I asked 3 separate staff members to turn it down, who each sent me away to someone else. Notable exceptions were the cleaning ladies (always lovely) and the nice girls at reception. Sadly, the restaurant staff ruined the vibe. We also weren’t told of any activities when we checked in, meaning we missed morning yoga the next day because we didn’t know it was on...

The location

This is the best thing about this Selina: it’s 5 mins on foot from Playa Norte, one of the best beaches in the world. This is also why I gave 2 stars instead of 1!

In future, we’d stay at Nomads Isla Mujeres again — a substantially better experience all round.

Selina is the best hostel I have ever been. I stayed there for 6 month and I will come back very soon. The atmosphere there is so familial. I felt really home, because the staff and the guests are very friendly and always smiling. That`s so important and special during the pandemic.
I appreciated the daily yoga in the morning. The best of all was the kitchen, because there I could cook and share the food with my friends. The beds are very comfortable with new matresses, pillows, big blankets and a curtain, where I had my privacy. The swimmingpool with the big pillows and the hammocks around is a beautiful place for relaxing. On the weekend the parties are great for dancing and fun. The beaches are gorgeous and the water amazing.
One wish to the guests to help the cleaners and the people who want to cook. Please do your dishes !!! It was often a mess in the kitchen with dirty dishes. Thanks for the respect.
I am very happy to find this paradise. Thank you very much for all the staff. They do a great job.

I'm writing this at 1:00 am on my ninth night at Selina Poc Na Isla Mujeres — ninth night out of a ten night stay.

I’m completely unable to sleep, as dog tired as I feel, because there is throbbing bass mingled with shouting voices tearing into my room — which is about 200 feet from the hostel’s restaurant where the music is coming from. Parties happen at this location regularly, but they are usually easy to sleep through. Not tonight, however.

The worst part about this is that I walked downstairs to talk to the staff about it, and everyone I spoke to LAUGHED AT ME.

And let me be clear! These parties are AT Selina, and are hosted by the hostel itself. There are maybe ten to fifteen people at the party right now, many of whom aren’t even staying at the hostel, and Selina has prioritized their enjoyment of this party over the comfort and happiness of the guests who have paid for a place to sleep for the night.

I was telling my wife just this morning that when we next come to Isla Mujeres we'll have to stay at Selina again, because up until tonight it had been fantastic! Great staff, wonderful poolside restaurant, just an all around delightful and comfortable place to say.

Up until tonight.

This location has parties every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. As this is our ninth night, we’ve been here for five of these parties — and we thought we were used to it! The parties have been decent, mellow-ish dance music at a reasonable volume, and we were able to sleep through them.

Tonight, a Sunday night, it’s beyond awful. The hostel provides ear plugs — but they are NO USE tonight because it is altogether too loud. It’s loud enough that, on the opposite side of the hostel grounds, it’s impossible to sleep even with earplugs in.

It’s such a shame — because literally everything else about our stay has been absolutely perfect. I was prepared to write five-star reviews on every website I could find for Selina.

But tonight’s noise, combined with the staff laughing at me and behaving in the rudest manner possible, has ruined the entire stay.

I will never stay at Selina again, and you shouldn’t either.

The only hostel I've stayed in to give you two good pillows and an actual duvet, not just a sheet. Also the location is fantastic. Unfortunately it's managed very poorly. Extending your stay is very difficult, every time you try to extend it seems you have to move rooms even when your current bed is still open. This process involves packing up, checking out at 11 am and checking in again at 3 pm and all the hassle that goes with that.

However, the most frustrating thing is the fact that guests are disrespected and treated like children. There is a strict curfew of 11pm, this involves closing the kitchen (which is understandable as other guests are trying sleep) what is not understandable is that guests are not allowed in any of the other common areas far away from rooms such as; the garden, by the pool, or the activity center. This is not only unacceptable but completely illogical, these amenities are what guests are paying for and to say they are off limits after a certain time is ridiculous especially when being there is not disturbing any other guests.

This property is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are fast friends. I stayed here for a month in January, and decided to bring 6 people back with me for a yoga and adventure retreat and stay at Selina.

Aylin was super helpful with my check in. She and and the other front desk handle hundreds of requests and questions every day, and have always been friendly to me and willing to help.

Maria helped me reserve times on the beautiful ocean front yoga platform to host my classes for my guests. Practicing in front of the water is absolutely serene, and one of the most beautiful reefs I’ve ever snorkeled in is just a short walk to the left. Selina also offers daily yoga classes and has 2 wonderful teachers. One that specializes in more of a vinyasa style- and another that focusing more on meditation and breathing.

Jorge and Angel and the rest of the people who work in the restaurant and bar have a super positive, laid back and friendly attitude. And I am extremely grateful for all that they do.

The beds are so comfortable! The AC is cold! And the blankets are lush and cozy. The staff cleans often and the spaces always feel immaculate in the morning.

The ladies who clean the community kitchen go above and beyond- cleaning all the dishes that some hostel dwellers don’t do but are supposed to.

The pool has just been cleaned and has an incredible view of the ocean. I love all the hammocks and lounge spots around the pool and volleyball courts. It’s nice to have events like the volleyball tournament that focus on being active and healthy. I brought my mermaid tail and swam around the pool and got the mist fun photos!

Thank you Selina for hosting me and my arriving guests. We will keep coming back!

My stay at Isla Mujeres was amazing, and a lot of it can be attributed to Selina. The staff is very friendly and helpful (Alina is awesome as well as the bar staff!), the facilities are clean and well organized. There is a lot to do, classes, movie screenings, volleyball courts, a pool, a great outdoor bar and its central location opens it up for so much more on the island!
The rooms are clean and the beds have a privacy curtain, a giant locker and drawers, which adds a very home-y feel to your space.
All around its a very comfortable and inviting island-vibe hostel, and I would highly recommend to anyone!

Staff were unfriendly, the WiFi never worked in the bedroom. I had a micro room and was facing the front entrance on the road - try and avoid these rooms, they’re so loud.
Mega sized ants in the room, sometimes in the bed. The shared bathrooms were pretty gross, the floors were always soaking wet and they were tiny cubicles containing a shower and a toilet! The receptionist one day tried to charge me £15 per towel as they had stains on, one was just shampoo, I mean, aren’t white towels going to get stains on?! Especially when they’re poor quality fabric. The food in the restaurant however was pretty good. There aren’t any sun beds around the pool area, a few bean bags at best. I wasn’t shown around the property when I arrived, had no idea there was a kitchen/library until about day 5 of my stay! I wouldn’t stay here again.
