We had a king size bed, flat screen tv that we never turned on, shampoo, bar soap, mini fridge, small safe, and some clothes hangers in the room. Rooms are spartan and that is what we like at this price point with this location! As long as it stays affordable we will continue to book at this little hotel!
The gardens are gorgeous with multiple different flowering trees and plants, and palms too. The side walks are liked with conch shells with harbor tons of baby geckos!
We used the pool a few times and they have updated the lounge chairs since two years prior.
We had such great neighbors that we enjoyed conversations with and hugs goodbye! We didn’t partake in Buhos for the basic breakfast. All of the employees were kind and helpful. We rented beach chairs and umbrellas 100 peso per piece in front of the hotel. They are associated with Las Hamacas next store which has chair/ umbrella rentals at the same price point. Marvin from Las Hamacas spoiled us rotten was is a great asset. We also rented golf carts twice from them in the lobby for $65 usd/ day. We loved our stay and would return again!
The pool is very small. You have to pay for beach chairs. The rooms are very basic, but clean; staff friendly but they have little to offer, no fault of theirs, and no staff on duty after 11; hotel locks at 11 and you get a key to enter through a gate. No phones to call the desk. Wifi only at the pool, and that's iffy. TV only Spanish stations. Loud thumping music late at night from restaurant across the street. Given you have to eat and pay in restaurants, and the small town and its shops are dismal, you spend the same amount of $ as if at an all-inclusive top notch resort. It's not so much false advertising as incomplete information. So, as along as you know what you're buying into..... We won't return.
I don’t think I would stay there again as after a long day on the beach I prefer to come to comfortable working facilities. Beach is EXTREMELY busy, chairs are gone by 11am, with more ppl coming in and just laying on towels. Renting lounge chairs w/umbrella is $27 a day (3 bottles of water back), golf cart is $75 a day.
Only good thing about this hotel is the location and it was fairly quiet.
The property was well maintained, beautiful, and not to mention beach front location next to the best beach on Isla. The gate to the North Beach, on a sunny day, showcased the brilliant colors of the Caribbean. Walking the grounds, it's not hard to find beauty in every corner. Our room, even though seemed bare, but had good air condition, was kept really clean, and the bathroom was nice and recently updated. I even liked the hand carved headboards. We spent our days roaming Isla so we weren't in the room very much, but coming back to it at night, it always felt like home away from home.
At first, I really thought the personnel were not very friendly but only came to realize that they were warm and welcoming once I got to know them. Perhaps they may not smile as much as most Americans, but that is not a shortcoming in any way. I think it's important to keep an open mind and to keep the communication flowing. For my family's case, everything worked out so perfectly. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you, Cabanas Maria Del Mar.
First of all, cleanliness was an issue. The ceiling in our room was covered in cobwebs that when the ceiling fan was turned on would blow around the room. Stains on the bedding, even a blood stain on the lanyard for our room key.
Maintenance wise, we could see daylight around the window A/C unti in our wall and this let mosquitoes into our room.
We brought up all issues to the front desk and they were a little apathetic, they were understanding but said there was nothing they could do about it.
The pool water was never clear, so opted out of jumping in.
On the bright side, the location is perfect and once again the charm of this place could really be capitalized on with a little work!
We rented a golf cart from the hotel and their rental rates were reasonable.
Also their restaurant, Buho's was a great little beach bar with pretty good, although very basic food.
The house keeper was great, cleaned daily
1: wifi only at the pool and dinning area
2: hot water became no water within a second so Luke worm showers
3: ran out of drinking water in hallway and none provided in room
4: our balcony had no table ( the maid brought us a stool to be used as a table
5: not secure buildings as half is on one side of the road from the other, anyone can come in from anywhere, why did I need o ware a wrist band if anyone can walk in
6:pool looked green on the insides of the pool yuck
7:you can exchange your wet sandy towel every second day
8: breakfast :u have to ask at the front desk for a piece of paper to say you can have a breakfast, again why am I wearing a wrist band,, comes with coffee, juice( you don’t ask what it is they just bring it, usually orange juice mixed with god knows what, and toast sometimes it’s more like worm bread, and 1 butter and 1 jam
9: no discount for the lounge chairs @the beach in front of hotel. 450 Passos from 9-5. * Read the back of anywhere u rent chairs and umbrellas it says u get a free bottle of water (3) one for each piece u rented, we figured this out at day 3 JUSK ASK FOR IT
10: no free ice or water from the restaurant/bar area even though you are staying there and renting chairs at there beach ordering food from them
11:tv we had was old as dirt and no English channels which but is fine but a fuzzy tv is no good
12: the mini fridge is fine but it worked TOO well it froze all our beer, and no dial to change it down so just shut off at night and nothing on the top shelf
13:in the photos in the bar with the swings: we were the only ones there one evening and was told this is for paying customers only. Didn’t ask us if we wanted anything either so no free sitting
14: no showers when u rent the chairs out front of this hotel just a bathroom
15: no discount of renting a golf cart from them even while staying with them
16: they did let us have an hour later check out WOW
17: beach is 40 steps away no need to ware shoes for your toast in the morning ya hooo
We stayed for a week and we have been to Mexico multiple times and don’t expect much but this was a shame for the price we paid I did expect a bit more than this, we had a great time needless to say so go and enjoy life no matter where you stay,
They have a spot by the terminal to rent golf cart however. They require you to return the golf cart at Maria Del Mar hotel, which is 20 minutes away.
The staff LIED about taking me back to the terminal where we rented the golf cart.
After dropping the car off at the hotel they as requested, they told me there’s no one to take me back to the ferry terminal and the lady just walked inside left us stranded at their hotel, there’s no taxi or other transportation!
