Sunscape Sabor Cozumel offers a picturesque beach setting that many guests adore, particularly for snorkeling enthusiasts. However, opinions on the hotel's amenities, value, and service vary; while some travelers commend the cleanliness and occasional friendly staff, issues with room maintenance, limited dining, and inconsistent service are notable concerns. The atmosphere and rooms receive mixed reviews, with certain guests enjoying the activities and others finding the environment lacking. Despite its scenic location, some reviewers feel the hotel doesn't provide adequate value, citing high costs and aggressive sales tactics.

I was so happy to be back at Sunscape Sabor for their reopening. This resort is like my 2nd home & the staff is like family. I arrived on opening day & was very pleased with the safety & sanitation precautions that the resort has adopted. I was asked to sanitize my hands after exiting van from airport. All staff wore masks 100% of the time & social distancing markers were in place everywhere. Each guest was required to complete a health assessment form & have their temperature taken prior to check in. My room was ready & my luggage had been sanitized before it was brought to my room. Additional precautions in my room included that the tv remote, AC remote, & toiletries provided were all individually packaged in sealed packages. I thought the resort did a great job with restaurant & bar service since operating at only 30%. All restaurants were using tongs to put down clean placements & napkin wrapped silverware. Portofino was open daily for breakfast which was a smaller buffet than normal & a server plated your selections for you - no omelette bar at this time. There was also self serve fruit plates & yogurt available. Lunch was available at El Patio. Dinner was available at El Patio or Portofino & they swapped menus every other day. Before I departed Portofino had also started lunch service. I thought the food was greatly improved since my last visit in a January (with the exception of breakfast buffet - which was adequate for my needs). The salads, fajitas, poblano soup & the Provenzal fish at El a Patio were all excellent. I only had dinner once at Portofino & had the excellent lasagna from Da Mario menu. I did have lunch at Portofino on my last day & enjoyed the Tuscany sandwich. Only Tortuga bar near the main pool was open but I did see servers at both pools providing drink service. There is some significant remodeling being done right now but it was not an issue or noise problem for me. All of the hotel rooms in the garden section were being completely renovated. Some of the ocean front rooms were being painted. I also noticed a huge improvement in the water pressure in the shower!!! Nice. I had a great visit & look forward to returning soon. Special thanks to all who made my visit special: Juan Carlos, Antonio, Irving, Pablo, Karina, Andrea, Rigo, Rucel, Justo, Margherito, Mario, Leonardo, Reyes, Santos, Wilberth, Gaudencio, Marcos, Luis Alfredo.
I also enjoyed several great days of scuba diving with Dive Palancar which is located on site, beach front, near the Secrets pier. These guys always take great care of me: Luis, Juan, Alex, Ramiro, Chuy, Gustavo, Alberto, & El Capitan.

Our family deliberately choose this smaller resort directly beside the Secrets Aura Cozumel resort to avoid the crowded beaches, lack of loungers on the beach and by the pools because of reserved towels being placed on both pool and beach locations, the crowded restaurants and the noise. Were we ever pleasantly surprised! Our room was excellent. The walkways clean. The service at all of the restaurants and bars was exceptional and all of the resort employees were friendly and considerate. All of the food was very much traditional Mexican and there was an over abundance of loungers on the beach whether in the sun or the shade; enough for everyone, all the time. A great place for families to relax and enjoy the water and waves. There is free snorkelling; 2.0 hours per day, per guest. Best of all, if you left your single towel which you placed over two loungers to reserve your spot, the resort employees would collect them. There are no lounger reservations. Everyone was able to always have a lounger to relax on. No fuss or worries. There was lots of entertainment going on during the days and evenings. This is a great place to relax and vacation at. It was truly a Four Star Hotel experience. We loved it!

We spent February 8-15th at the Sunscape Sabor in Cozumel. We loved it. Our reservation was for a King bed and we did not get that on Saturday arriving at 11pm. on Sunday we were told that rooms were full and Monday we could move. The King bed we got with room 2011 was terrific. Best bed we have ever had in Mexico in 20 years of travel. The room safe had a loose label ( could allow for someone to open without code) The room was very clean and had new tiles in the shower. . The shower was hot and the pressure was better than home. This room was in the first building from the lobby, so very close to pool and WIFI.
The longest walk we had was to Portofino for breakfast. Selection of food was acceptable. Every meal we had there had a good choice of 10 or so. Not like the bigger RIU or Grand Bahia.
We tried Da Mario's and Andrea was quick to call us by name and deliver a nice table. Italian food was great. We also ate at Sunny Side - lunches and dinners. loved it. Fredy was there one night and took good care of us.
Over all food servings were a good size. Drinks on the beach were delivered quickly and politely by Bea. The pools were nice, although our preference was for snorkelling. Water shoes are required. Lots of fish. Also good selection of beach chairs. We are in our late 60s so we did not stay up for every entertainment evening. The Fire show was great and the Mexican show was entertaining. Best part of the vacation was the incredible weather on our favourite Mexican island.

Save your time and money and read this before you stay here.

Absolutely one of the worst experiences of my life. Day after day, something would go wrong and the resort staff were unaccommodating towards any of our requests.

Upon arrival, we were not given the correct rooms and had to change our stay preferences last minute. Even with our preferred club status, we had to have a group of 10+ people check-in one by one at their ONE check-in station. The biggest downfall of this property is the sole lack of communication between management and hotel workers.

We were unable to make reservations at restaurants which led to long waits at most places and we usually ended up leaving.

We had both Spanish and English speakers on this trip but still experienced an abundance of issues due to hotel workers and servers not paying attention to us when we were speaking to them.

Out of our 5 rooms, 4/5 had issues with backed up plumbing, damaged sinks, no bathroom doors, and broken AC units. Many of our rooms didn’t even come with the INCLUDED bottles of alcohol.

In addition to our rooms constantly having issues, the Gohan restaurant served us frozen, raw meat, and inedible food. Many other restaurants had small portions and very limited options for vegetarians and the lack of communication between servers at restaurants led to a lot of our food being contaminated with meat/hair.

Another downfall of the restaurants was the lack of attention given to us by the servers —while dining at DeMario we explicitly asked if a dish had nuts and were told no by the server even after reading that the menu says that they will accommodate any allergies. One of the guests in our group experienced an allergic reaction and had to be injected with epinephrine in a life or death situation and the restaurant showed no remorse or any concern for their mistake.

Even with room service as PREFERRED guests, we were told we were ordering too much food although the room service menu had the most vegetarian options for us out of all other restaurants. We were sent multiple incorrect orders and uncooked pasta dishes.

The drinks and alcohol choices were relatively low quality. Most of us found ourselves sick after having the drinks due to high amounts of sugar and cheap spirits. If you want higher end liquor you have to explicitly ask for it but they use it sparingly. Also no straws at any of the bars so the drinks led to mouthfuls of ice.

To top our stay off, on New Years Eve all of the all inclusive restaurants were closed and to attend the beach dinner it was $750 for all of us. We had already collectively spent 20k for all of our rooms and stay, and the resort was very money hungry and attempted to charge us for many little things.

Save your money and stay elsewhere, some friendly staff but even when we asked to speak to a manager we were told they didn’t have one.

I'll start at the airport since I bought transportation through Am star. We were the last ones out off our flight and there was six of us and had to have at least eight in the cab to leave. So we waited over an hour for more people to show upto go to our hotel. When we got to our hotel we were greeted with welcome drinks which was nice, but I had 3 rooms all on one reservation, but made us check-in 1 room at a time so that way they can send you over to concierge . Where they try to talk you into going for breakfast to talk about time shares I didn't do it , but some of our family did and got there $200 funny money which you could use on spa or shore excursions just remember they charge more when you use funny money all and all it took about 3 hours from the time we got off the till the time we got to our rooms. Now getting to the rooms there are no elevators so if you have any disabilities with stairs please request a first floor room good luck. Because we requested a king bed , but were told they didn't have any, but would move us the next day ,but then we would have been on the other side of resort and the res of our family would have been still in the same building. That being said you do not want villa 21 the plumbing is not good. when people take a shower on the top flour there drain water goes throughthe sealing into the secondfloor shower and so on. Alsothere were bare wires hanging out of light fixtures and outlet covers missing. Most people they put in rooms around us moved within hours of check-in. we decided to stay to have rooms together. also our refridgerator quit working which wouldn't be a big deal , but my wife neede her medication refridgerated and it took about 6 hours and 3trips to the front desk to get it fixed. with all that our room stuart Blanca kept it clean and our mini bar stocked thank you. Now the food was actually a bright spot for this hotel. For the most part the food was excellent, especially Gloria's fresh made omlets every morning at the Portfino. The only thing that would be nice if you could get snack food during the day with out having to do a sit down in a restaurant. The entertainment was great when they had some. Every day after 7 pm the entertainment schedule for the next day was at the front desk. The only problem was that for a lot of the activities you would show up but no activity person. Not many people perticapted in them any way.Beach was beautiful and not crowded never had aproblem finding chairs.

We once again had another great vacation at Sunscape. This time we brought my sister and brother in law, their first time to Mexico. They loved Sunscape and cannot wait to go back. The food is great. Yes, the buffet can get repetitive, but the flavors and choices are wonderful. The other restaurants are great! I love lunch at sunnyside, the ceviche, gringa, and mushroom empanada are my favorites. Of course, the staff is wonderful! Juan Carlos the bellman is extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. He's ready and willing to help you with whatever you need. Antonio is helpful as well, and always greeting you with a smile. The bartenders will make you whatever you want and they will fill your big mugs if you choose to bring them.
Some people will say that some of the staff are pushy with the sales pitch for a timeshare. Smile and say no thank you, and keep walking. No one forces you to do anything. This is not a big deal to me, because they are just doing their job, and you get it other places too. If you want to give some of your time to listen (an hour or 90 min) during breakfast, you can get some perks towards an excursion, rental, or resort money. Worth it to some. Some areas of certain rooms may need updating, but if there is a problem the staff will take care of it for you. When do you spend time in there anyway? The bed was cozy and the A/C was cold. We always had a refilled minifridge and extra bottles of water and coffee refilled for the next day. There is a reason I keep going back. The people and the place!
There is always some sort of activity going on, day and night. Don't listen to picky reviewers who need ultra-luxury accommodations, just go, relax, enjoy the people, the culture, and the beautiful sea!
I'm already booked to go back in May with my two daughters.

The level of disappointment I have for my recent stay here almost can't be put into words. But I'll try. Most of the food at this resort is horrible. El Patio was the only meal we kind of enjoyed. Everything else is crap, and you have to wait quite a bit to get served your crap. 3 of the 5 bars on site were closed the entire time. And 1 of the 2 bars open, was only open part of the day. Coconuts, the beach bar centered perfectly on the property, was closed the entire time. With the exception of one afternoon it was open to serve guests for a wedding. Guests not part of the wedding party, weren't served. Although it is stated that tipping isn't necessary, tipping will get you better service from bar staff and housekeeping. Most of the other staff could care less how much you're enjoying yourself. All the staff is clearly underpaid. Surprise... The rooms are dated and we had a termite swarm in our bathroom. The WiFi is only free in the lobby for 60 mins a day. If by chance you've been misled to believe you'll be allowed to use facilities at Secrets next door or the VIP area of Sunscape, you've been lied to. If you complain enough about your experience, they might invite you to have a meal next door. And the fact that they know the experience next door is that much better, proves they have no intention of actually making your experience desirable enough to return. This resort is meant to get your money for 1 stay and hopefully rope you into a high pressure sales pitch for a time share. The worst all inclusive resort I've ever been to, by far. Please don't waste your hard earned vacation here. I wouldn't return if they gave me a free week.

We stayed here for 1 week and enjoyed our stay, but I would like it even more if they made some improvements.
We had a beach front room and when I say beach front it was about 50 feet away from the water! It was absolutely amazing how close we were. The beach was beautiful with lots of beach chairs.
The snorkeling was also fabulous. We saw so many fish just right out in front of the resort. I do suggest water shoes.
The bar and wait staff were so nice and worked their butts off. Our maid was also very sweet and accommodated us when we asked for extra waters.
We loved their Mexican restaurant, the Italian was good too. The pool restaurant was decent for lunch, we never tried their dinner. We did have a few of their snacks/meals after 11pm. They were great after drinking all day. They served fries, nachos, quesadillas, hot dogs and burgers. Our drinks were always good and they were never watered down like I’ve seen some people say.
The things I think need work are the buffet. It is honestly about half the size of most other all inclusives we’ve been to. I always felt like they needed more meat options. They did have excellent omelettes each morning.
I’m a latte snob and really really missed a good latte each morning. They will make you one at the lobby bar, but it’s literally coffee with steamed milk with no flavor options at all. Their Sunscape in Montego Bay has a coffee shop and it was to die for. You could get any flavor you wanted hot or cold.
Their rooms were basic and everything you need, but I wish they had more outlets and were more updated.
We met a lot of Midwest and Canadian vacationers. Everyone was so nice, it made the vacation that much better.
It’s not a 5*, but we also didn’t pay a 5* price. If you want fun in the sun, beautiful beaches, snorkeling and views this is your place.

We were at Sunscape Sabor for two weeks and enjoyed the smaller resort experience. It is older and does not have the sleeker feel of newer resorts. The biggest plus for this resort is the staff – all were extremely helpful and pleasant. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. Good black out curtains in place. The bathroom could use an upgrade but was clean and tidy and there was plenty of hot water and towels. The air conditioning worked well and the room had a safe, fridge (filled with water and soft drinks), coffee maker, and a TV with a variety of channels. The walkways around the resort are winding with steps and ramps so may not be easy for someone with mobility/balance issues. The pools were clean and beach towels were available at your convenience (no chits required). We enjoyed the buffet restaurant for breakfast and most lunches. We also tried the Mexican, Italian, and Grill and all had a good selection of tasty dishes each day. The beach is small, so chairs are closer together than on larger resorts, but there was usually no problem in finding a chair by the beach, or by the pool. There are also hammocks dotted around the length of the beachfront. Swimming off the beach is ok (saw lots of fish) but beach shoes are handy as the water is very shallow and there are lots of rocks and coral underfoot. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Only downside for us was people who played their boomboxes at the beach and pool without using earbuds (we were not as pleased with their music selections as they were)!

We have been coming to this resort for 23 years. There are always some good and some bad. Reviews that say everything is perfect are hard to believe, of any place. BUT, I can tell you, what we considered the most important, the cleanliness and covid precautions were excellent. We were very nervous about traveling but booked our flights back in July 2020, when we assumed we'd all be vaccinated. We decided to do it anyway as our stressed family really needed a break. My kids have grown up at this resort, so it is their happy place. This trip was a much needed relaxation and for that we are grateful. As for proximity to the beach, there is no better resort on the island.

EVERYTHING is clean, the remotes in your room are all sanitized and placed in sealed bags. Even extra pillows are sealed. You luggage is sanitized with spray before delivered to the room. Everyone is temp checked when you arrive and there is hand sanitizer everywhere. Mask are required in the restaurants (you need them because you will have to wait in a line at check in). We felt safer here than in the US. Of course, when the prices drop, you'll see people who leave their disgusting trash everywhere, like used masks and cigarette butts, but the resort does its best to clean up after these embarrassments.

Special thank you goes out to our friend, the first smiling face you'll see when you arrive Juan Carlos, he will always take care of you. Rosanna at Portafino breakfast is great, also she's also at Sunnyside. She made sure we got our lunch right away so we could catch our flight. THANK YOU! We enjoyed the dinners at El Patio the most. The chef there is amazing and the staff very attentive. They wrote down their names for me and I lost the paper! We are there for three dinners and from the chef to the bus boys they are all great. Conception took great care of our family and clean up all our rooms every day.

Covid testing is done on the resort, while not a funfest, it wasn't horrible. Results are same day, our came in after 11pm and we tested at 9ish.

All in all this trip is what we all needed. There are some amazing rates right now and since its an island focused on safety, I would recommend this trip to anyone. Please remember to pick up your own trash and tip the staff, they are working incredibly hard.

Agree with the above. The coral is easy to avoid and the snorkeling is great. The beach is why you go here.

is there a place on beach that is not rocky?
Answer from Loren A

There are several places to enter the water and avoid the coral. You just have to look down and step on the sand. Not hard to avoid. And even if you do step on the coral, you will be fine. I never wore water shoes the entire week and was in the water multiple times a day.

"This is a small resort. One pool, two restaurants (one kitchen), basically one bar. Don’t expect much variety dining or wild night life."
