Detailed Reviews
This is our 3rd year visiting. The resort has always been exceptionally clean, however with COVID they aren't taking any chances. We felt safe the entire time and didn't see anyone doing anything that made us feel unsafe. The pools are always clean and inviting and bartenders keep the glasses full. The member benefits are also a very nice touch and make us feel like VIPs. Things like the Premium Owners bar, Galla dinner, welcome party, free airport transportation (both ways), a trip to Isla Mujeres to snorkel, laundry discounts, and I'm sure I'm missing more.
All of the staff is excellent and we don't have a single complaint about anyone, I think this is what sets Solaris apart. This is our 3rd year back and consistently the staff at Solaris is hands down the best! They truly are world-class. A few people who really went above and beyond that I would like to recognize are:
Jesse from Premier Class was really great to us during check-in and throughout our entire stay! He paid really good attention to our needs and made sure that we always had our reservations sorted out. We forgot to make our reservations for the Thursday trip to Isla Mujeres and he and David really went above and beyond to sort it out for us even though it was our mistake. His charisma and friendly demeanor are very welcoming. We look forward to seeing him every year. He truly makes us feel like family and welcomed, so much so that we're sad to leave and miss him already.
Claudia, Lalo, Ruben, Fernando, and Jona from the entertainment staff at GR Solaris and Ana and Oliver from Royal really go above and beyond. They always made sure everyone was having a fun time. This is one of the things that really helps build your brand and keeps people coming back and inviting friends and family. We look forward to seeing which new activities they think of every year, as well as participating in some of the old ones. One thing that is really nice is their energy. I'm a shy person and they still make me feel welcome and encourage me to participate. Even when the weather was poor we had just as much fun inside.
Carlos (Veneto) and Josephina (Bogavanta) offered us exceptional service during our meals. They always made sure that we had everything we needed. We asked Carlos for a special dessert one night, and they didn't have it (cheesecake). He said, come back tomorrow, and I'll get that special for you. He really went out of his way to make sure they had the dessert saved for us the following night.
I forgot our housekeeper's name, but she did an amazing job every day making sure we walked into a welcoming room that was meticulously cleaned and often left little decorations or changed up the way she made the bed. It was very nice and brought us joy to walk into our room every day.

Traveled the week of Feb 17th to this resort. Overall a great experience as we were looking to relax and recharge. One thing to mention is the staff in blue shirts by the elevators. They are trying to sell an annual package that gives you preferential treatment and access to preferential travel bookings. We did the session but (imho) it is not for people that travel sporadically. Airport transfer and check in were easy and quick as we were the only ones going to the hotel. Booked 2 rooms which were clean and fully stocked. We had requested a king bed but got 2 doubles which we could have changed but decided not too as they were not available for 3 days. Buffets were the usual fare with stations for freshly cooked items. The omelet station was my favorite especially with the fresh habanero peppers! The beach was windy everyday as it is the winter season. Swimming was a challenge and I do not recommend it unless you are a strong swimmer due to the undertow and waves. The pools were great with lots of lounge chairs around. Bars were quick with drinks and had water available along with a pop dispenser. The pool area had fast food (burgers, hotdogs, fries) pizza oven and fresh sushi. We had these for lunch most days to just stay in the area. The activity staff (Samantha, Eder) were great at getting everyone involved in stretching, water yoga and volleyball, bingo and zumba. The seaside restaurant Rosmanaris was our favorite at night to eat at and then play cards. The negative thing about the hotel is the noise on the floors, you can hear everything from people walking/talking in the halls to doors closing. There needs to be better door closure and maybe a runner down the middle of the hall to reduce the noises. Notable people in the restaurants were Victor, Joaquin, Fernando and the 6th floor housekeeping staff! They made us feel at home.
One comment about rude people in the pool. It is not ok to smoke or eat food while standing in the water! The pool is for swimming and not a dumping ground for garbage.
Access to GR Caribe was an added bonus, they have a better selection of beverages and the 2 jacuzzi's facing the ocean are very relaxing. Ate at the Veneto restaurant one night, very good food and service.
Last comment, please add an espresso/coffee machine to replace the one in the lobby bar.

The room was nice and it was clean. The food was okay, however at times unless you are a "member" you may be excluded from some restraunts . When it comes to the food, if you eat a healthy diet, your diet may suffer (at times the only protein I found was hamburger, hot dogs and pork ... non of which I normally eat). The kids "Noah's Ark themed" pool was my three year old grandaughters favorite spot. The waiters were on the most part attentive and friendly especially if you tip them. We have learned to tip one dollar ($20 pesos) to cooks, bartenders and waiters regularly. We tip baggage handlers and housekeepers five dollars per day (just leave it on the bed). Our room was cleaned daily, the refrigerator restocked with water, soda and beer, new towels, etc., plus turn down service. The majority of people we met at the resort were very friendly and social. I am an avid swimmer, runner and cyclist. I had no problem getting in an hour pool swim each morning, and running from the resort on nice, wide, smooth, scenic sidewalks just outside the resort. I saw several large groups of road cyclists riding the road just outside the resort (wished I had my bicycle with me). We had a good time at this resort, but we normally do where ever we are. The only real downside to the resort in my viewpoint was that there were a lot of smokers there and they were smoking all around the pool areas and in a few instances in the hallways. Also, the entertainment used several speakers around the pool area with the volume turn up so loud that it was difficlult to have a conversation. We booked this resort for seven nights, but had a family emergency so we left three days early. The resort would not reimburse us for any of the missed three nights.

Loud noise everywhere: Inside the main building the echo from people talking or slamming doors especially at night is very annoying. Ongoing major renovation means there is loud hammering throughout the day noticeable on EVERY floor. The worst is the daily hammer drill rattling like a machine gun drilling into concrete for the construction of the two new elevators.
Food: You’re lucky if you ever get a really hot coffee. It comes out of thermoses and ends up lukewarm in your cup.
Pretentious: A Hostess leads you to your table but the dining room has really old and banged-up furniture with grease spots on the tables and the seat cushions haven’t been cleaned in a long time.
Pool: If you like to stand waist-high in water sloshing beer and Tequilas at the bar surrounded by smokers, this is the place. Food is allowed in the pool and so you’ll see French fries and other stuff like band aids and cigarette butts floating. Screaming disc jockeys and super loud pop music completes the circus scenario. Lots of small children and Babies in diapers ensure that the pool water stays warm.
Conclusion: A lot of pretentious glitz on the Solaris website but not much substance when you get here. This Hotel is run by amateurs and should be more honest warning potential guests about the ongoing renovations and the ever-present noise but, they’re really only interested in selling time shares and tours. Please, tip the hardworking room cleaners and other Staff. We’ll give one star and not go back.

Just got home from 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year.
I will start with the pros:
Beautiful hotel, beach and view from the room ocean side is unreal, most beautiful view I have ever had from a balcony. Only a few balcony’s available so make sure you request one when booking if this is important to you. Rooms are cleaned well, beds are comfortable food is good although sometimes a limited choice. WiFi works well in the lobby although not anywhere else. Jorge from the sports/fitness department was very friendly and was the only member of staff that stands out in being friendly. The only person to greet us, say hello and just generally smile. Rolando and Edgar from the restaurants were also friendly and made us feel welcome. Aaron from the main restaurant was very rude to us on several occasions and made us feel uncomfortable/unwelcome. Drinks are generous with the alcohol and a large selection of cocktails available. Made a lot of effort with the New Year’s Eve event, was lots of fun! Really felt for them when it rained – unfortunately no one can control the weather!
Now for the cons:
We were not given much information about the hotel, restaurant offerings, fitness options etc at the beginning. We were just left to work most things ourselves meaning we did not know we had access to GR Caribe, about the ice cream being served, restaurant options, lagoon across the road or about the yoga until halfway through the holiday and found out ourselves. This hotel is very highly targeted to the US/Mexican guests. We were not included in any of the shout outs in Entertainment in the day or at night to say where we were from. We were the only British family there for the whole two weeks stay other than a couple of other people that were there as we were leaving. It is also highly focussed on tips, if you do not tip everyone you receive bad service. Surely good service should be given to receive a tip not expected? The waiter serving drinks on the beach ignored us completely after we did not tip for the first drink he bought us ( we were planning on tipping a good amount at the end of the day rather than chucking a dollar at him every time like we noticed everyone else doing?). Maybe this is just the way we should have played it from the beginning? I have never had to pay someone for a smile or a welcome before in any other country or hotel. At dinner the waiters would noticeably talk to each other in another language as we were being seated, made us feel very uncomfortable. The volleyball court is placed directly in front of the main steps to cross between the beach and the toilets/bars/hotel. This was very dangerous, me and other members of my family were hit full force with the ball many times without even an apology just laughed at by the 15 - 20 people playing - very intimidating. The cleaners would knock on the door at 8am asking to clean the room, when we are on holiday we like to relax so this was very frustrating.
Another thing to note is the wildlife in the sea, from our balcony we watched many sting rays come very close to the shoreline almost every day. Of course we would not want anyone to stop this but it is worth noting the dangers for anyone planning to swim in the sea.

We booked this 5-star resort with the idea of spending a few days doing absolutely nothing other than swimming, kayaking and just enjoying some time off in the sun. We paid $1100 each for 4 nights including a round trip flight to Texas, which is a lot IMO. I liked some things about our stay but there are too many negatives to really give out a good review... We didn’t start off well with a receptionist who wasn’t welcoming at all. He didn’t look at us and a smile was obviously too much to asked. Then, right in front of the elevators are the sales people from the hotel who try to sell you tours and other activities all the damn time. I kindly said I already booked tours online to which I got an almost aggressive response with: “what company did you book with?!” .. every time. Imagine being harassed 5+ times EVERY DAY when you walk by the elevators to go up to your room or pass by to the swimming pools. This absolutely ruined the experience for me. Also, wifi was not working any of the days we were there, and from the reviews I see it’s a widely known problem. The lady at the receptionist shrugged and offered no help. Rooms are also VERY noisy, especially at night when you can hear people walking and speaking as if they’re standing in your room. Steam room is not included in the rate which was odd to me but they explained you need to purchase another service at the spa to make free use of the steam room (aka a $100+ massage, no thanks). Also, there’s no nearby supermarkets, shops or anything to do outside the hotel.. Things we did like: the food was overall very good and made fresh to order. Pool activities were very good and we liked the swimming pools and views over the sea. But overall, we sadly didn’t love our experience here and will book another resort for our upcoming trip this year. Too bad Royal Solaris.

First it is important to state that we were extremely pleased with the manner in which Solaris prepared and maintained the facility to accommodate the standards required to open and provide quests with a safe stay. Equally prepared are all the staff members, working in all areas of the resort. Despite wearing face masks and plastic shields over their faces at all times, we couldn’t help see their smiles from behind the masks. So happy they were to serve their guests. As members we have visited Solaris countless times, and although some of features were not available, we didn’t feel like we were missing anything. Every meal was a treat, drinks were fresh and the glasses were always full. We did miss some of our favorite waiters, but we made new friends. A nice touch is went the wait staff remembers what you drink at breakfast or around the pool. Thank you to the Cafe Solaris staff for keeping us well fed and always doing their best to accommodate. Ignacio, Laura, Ricardo, Eduardo, Israel and Luis did an impeccable job the entire week. We hope to see all of them at our next visit. Our favorite restaurant, Bogavante did not disappoint. Portions were a tad bit smaller, but still there was plenty of food and variety. Hats off to Garcia and Josefina! We appreciated all their efforts. And we can’t forget the staff around the pool, Jeyson and Laura. Drinks stayed full and their pleasant personalities were appreciated. A special thank you to Dafne in Activities, she played our favorite songs, listened to our silly chatter and organized great bingo and guessing games. All in all, a wonderful trip. Not a single worry or complaint. Already planning our next trip.

Unfortunately we had a very negative experience at Royal Solaris and would definitely not recommend this place.
The hotel itself is nice, and our room was really nice since we had a hot tub on the balcony. The employees were really friendly and attentive as well.
Now onto the negative… Check in took really long since they only had 2 staff members checking in during peak check in time. By the time we dropped off our luggage in the room, we were starving, so we went downstairs to get food and everything was closed from 5pm-6pm… We waited of course, but were so disappointed in the food selection, quality and taste of the food. We first went to Rosamarius for dinner and had a hard time picking something from the menu because nothing looked appetizing (this was supposed to be Mexican food). The food I ordered was bland, so I decided to walk over to the Buffett and the food there was terrible too! We even went to the GR Caribe side to try their food and it was also terrible. The presentation of the food was nice but overall the flavor was lacking, and most of the menu items had so many weird food combinations that just didn’t make any sense. We eventually decided to only eat breakfast at the resort (because the omelet station was the only thing that was edible), and ended up eating out for lunch and dinner. Considering we paid for an all inclusive resort, this was pretty upsetting. Their food and beverage needs a MAJOR upgrade. There was no authentic Mexican cuisine. The only Mexican dishes I saw where chilaquiles (during breakfast) and beans (which were terrible). The only dinner we enjoyed was at Marco Polo, but even then it was just OKAY. Nothing special. The orange juice they have their tastes like Tang, their beers aren’t cold, and their sushi is inedible.
Besides the terrible food, we did encounter other issues. The wifi would continuously go out, or we couldn’t connect to it. The way the shower door was built was bad since all of the water would come out the door when we would shower, so the floor was always soaking wet. The shower head also wouldn’t stay up, so we had to remove it in order to get our head wet. They also have a system where they give you cards for a towel (one per person), and if you lose your card you get charged $20. There were plenty of times I would go to return a towel and no one was there so I had to wait in order to get my card back.
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel unless they make a major change to their food. I could’ve overlooked the other issues we had if the food was okay, but considering the food was that bad, I would say it’s not worth it to stay here.

Traveled with 2 friends and 4 and 5 year old. Check in was fast and friendly. They did put us in a lagoon view room when reservation specifically said ocean view. It was quickly remedied though. Most of the rooms dont have balconies but when asked for room with a balcony as well was able to move in 2 days with no issues or extra cost. The room was nice, clean comfortable beds, cleaned every day and fridge restocked everday. My granddaughter especially liked the towels animals on bed everyday.
Pool area was especially enjoyable, with excellent entertainment and activities all throughtout day. Went to the disney and action characters show and although simple was enjoyable.
We had access to the Gran Caribe next door and it is a very quaint hotel with a beautiful lobby and outdoor lounge area, quiet and relaxed.
Drinks were readily available at pool and at main bar with prompt and friendly service.
Food at the buffet was okay, repetitive but did the trick, nothing fancy. Tried the bogavente ala carte at the Gran Caribe and was a nice experience with good food but very small portions. Service was very prompt and friendly. At poolside the buffet with fast foods was very good. Burgers, hotdogs, salads, fish, fruits we had lunch there everyday while lounging at pool.
The kids pool and club was good with small slide and activities for younger children.
Overall was a really good stay and would recommend and return.

We had originally planned a trip scheduled to arrive October 7th, the day the hurricane hit Cancun. Thankfully, after following the Trip Advisor Cancun thread, we changed our arrival date to November 4th. We had booked the GR Caribe, but due to the hurricane damage, they transferred us to the Royal. The room was great, housekeeping took care of every request, and we were treated royally throughout the property. The hotel is doing it's best to please it's guests despite Covid and the weather. Not all restaurants were open due to the continual rain and wind. The buffet chef, Jorge B., prepared special dishes and pampered us. Darvin and Eduardo were outstanding waiters and spoiled us with our special requests and even espresso coffee throughout the day. Due to the weather we only got to eat at Rosarinus twice- outstanding! Marco Polo sit down a la carte was 5 star dining. They allowed us alter their fixed menu throughout our week long stay. The beach was red flagged due to the undertow and rough waves. There are awesome pools as well as pool service. There is a snack bar with burgers, hot dogs, nachos and the like. We hope to return again and would highly recommend this property for anyone seeking a very relaxing, comfortable and well kept property.

Hi There,
'I have not checked this Q&A section for a while.
my understanding as there is a charge if the towels are not returned before you check out on the last day.
As for food after 6:00 PM, that maybe the case for poolside snacks. However, there are a few buffet restaurants and i think they are open until 9:30 PM, The bars by the lobby and karaoke area may also have snacks until late but we never checked late at night if there was a charge. The drinks were always included.
Yes they give you your own code and a scan in order to book. You have to get right on the booking once you get there. They will tell you all that when you get in, but there really isn’t any booking you can do from home. The app is very helpful in giving you daily activities by the pool as well. I didn’t pay close enough attention to that When we got there and didn’t realize that there was a marina across the street where you could kayak. By the time we found that out it was too windy the last day. Wonderful resort. You will have a great time.
