The Royal Sands All Suites Resort & Spa is celebrated for its spotless premises, vibrant atmosphere, and welcoming service. Guests enjoy the pristine beach and family-friendly vibe, although the move towards an all-inclusive model and the reservation system for pool chairs have raised some concerns. While the central location earns high marks for convenience, the variety in dining options and room decor could see improvement. Additionally, the increase in costs has some questioning the value of their stay.

My husband and I took an anniversary trip. Royal Sands is now part of Holiday Inn Club Vacations, so that's how we wound up there. We added on the All-Inclusive for 4 days of the trip. While the food was good, I don't think we got the value of what we paid, as many things were an upcharge if you desired more variety and choices.

The pools were beautiful and well-maintained, but the "adults only" rule wasn't enforced in those specific areas, and families chose to ignore the signs, so there were young children in all of the areas that were supposedly adults only. Water aerobics were fun each morning. At bingo time in the afternoon, they often ran out of cards and many of us didn't get to play. This is a slow time, so I can't imagine what it's like during busy season.

The bedding and towels were lovely. Very soft and fluffy and clean. The bed was quite hard, as it is a mattress placed on top of a solid base. The bedside reading lamps were a nice addition.

The kitchen was nicely stocked with all the necessary dishware for meals. Nice seating area to eat both inside and on the balcony.

Rooms were very nice and large. There were 2 Murphy beds in the living room and even with those, there was still ample room in there. Blackout drapes did a very good job of keeping it dark enough to sleep in a little.

It did seem like there aren't enough elevators given the amount of people that can come to this resort. Again with it being slow season, they were still backed up many times, so I can only imagine what it's like during the popular times.

We made a reservation for the Gran Salon to see the Michael Jackson show. It was great! Glad we chose to do that. The buffet before the show was definitely not what it was hyped to be.

Overall this was a lovely stay and we enjoyed the Royal Sands. Having the Thomas Moore travel agency inside the resort is a bonus if you want to do tours, etc., and don't want to figure out how to set them up on your own. We did both a tour through them and arranged one on our own, and both worked out nicely for us.

The Royal Sands is a family-owned resort that offers great value for dollar in Cancun, with a four-star experience and amazing beach without breaking the bank. The rooms are HUGE when you get the adjoining A and B sides. It sleeps 6 people all with their own private spaces and bathrooms. The beach views are stunning and the beach itself is very clean & well maintained with hundreds of beach chairs to choose from. Many of the service staff are wonderful, but also be aware that this resort aims for tips for every service by holding onto your room card and not giving it back until you sign the bill. The buffets are repetitive and standard - nothing to rave about, but it's food, I guess. Allergens are not labelled on any of the food ID cards so if you have any allergies get ready to guess as to whether something will affect you or not.

The location is at the far southern end of the hotel zone, quite distant from any of the 'action' of Cancun. If you like peace and quiet, this will be a good thing. If you're here to party, this may not be the hotel for you.

Overall it's a fine resort that provides a relaxing getaway.

Dear Dan, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at The Royal Sands. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the spacious rooms, stunning beach views, and the overall relaxing atmosphere. We are committed to providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience for our guests, and we’re glad that the resort met your expectations in many areas. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the process of signing the bill when receiving food and beverages. This is simply to help us track consumption within our different service areas. As our resort operates on a mixed-use basis, some guests are on all-inclusive packages while others, such as our members, may not be. To make your experience more convenient, we have a no-cash policy, allowing all charges—including tips—to be billed directly to your room key, so you don’t need to carry cash during your stay. Please rest assured, it is never our intent to pressure any guest into tipping. Your all-inclusive package already includes gratuities, though guests are of course welcome to reward exceptional service if they wish. We regret that our gastronomic offerings didn’t fully meet your expectations. We strive to provide a variety of dishes to suit all tastes, including theme nights to add variety. We’re continuously working to enhance our culinary offerings, and your feedback will help us in this effort. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us. We look forward to welcoming you back during your next visit to Cancun. Warm regards, Pamela González Online Reputation Agent

Just returned from the Royal Sands after a 5 night stay and it was a great experience. I went with my wife and two children (12&8) and everyone had a great time. The rooms were spacious (we stayed in a 1 bedroom suite), the property was clean, and the staff was very accommodating. The property isn't the newest but everything was nice and well maintained and it exceeded our expectations based on the reviews. We don't do all inclusive resorts often because we get bored with the food and usually end up dining off property about half the time, but that didn't happen on our stary here. We visited a Club Med in Mexico last summer and were happy with the food there, but we all agreed what we had at the Royal Sands was considerably better in most areas.
We ate at the breakfast buffet everyday, but there was a sit down table service option in their sports bar. The buffet had an omelet station, fresh waffles & French toast, and a variety of Mexican dishes and fresh fruit on the buffet. The best part of breakfast was the plates full of sweet crispy bacon you could order with your waiter and this is a must get if you are staying there. The lunch buffet featured cooked to order fajitas, burgers, pasta, and then a variety of options on the buffet. There was also poolside service for lunch or dinner that was very good with the highlights being the philly cheese steak and chicken sandwiches. For dinner you had multiple table services options and one buffet that included a show and required reservations. Our favorite was Hacienda Sisal with our favorite dishes being gilled salmon, enchiladas verde, and their octopus dish. I also highly recommend the churros for desert which are served hot with caramel and chocolate sauces for dipping. We did the dinner buffet on Mexican night with a Mexican buffet and Mexican dancing as the show.
The resort had multiple pool areas with poolside bars and food service. they did a good job managing people "squatting" on pool chairs all day by gibing flags to claim chairs that are issued 1 per guest. You do have to claim chairs relatively early if you want a good spot, but there wasn't a time during our visit when chairs weren't available. The concierge desk was helpful whenever we had questions and the location was central enough you could walk to most outside attractions or take a very short cab ride if you didn't want to walk. We didn't have any reason to leave the resort, but we did rent a car on our last day as checkout was at 11:00 and our flight didn't leave until 6:30 so we took the opportunity explore Cancun further than we had adventured during the week.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay and will stay there again when we return to Cancun.
Pro tip for first time visitors: The taxi schedule posted at the hotel says the rate from the resort to the airport is $600 pesos or $38 US at the time of our visit. The taxi salespeople at the airport will try to get you to pay more than double. Skip them and go straight to the taxi driver knowing what you should pay.

really a fabulous resort but they need to consider a couple of major improvements

1) stop with having waiters and other people who work there with requiring to see your room key...or at least stop the waiters from taking the room key upon ordering your meal. It's non sense as it forces guests to wait for their $0 bill (since all -inclusive) People just want to eat and go and not have to wait for the $0 bill. Also, we all receive and told to wear a bracelet upon arrival. That should be sufficient. (If resort really needs room info then have those bracelets equipped so that waiters could simply scan your bracelet and retrieve all info needed.)

2) resort needs to spend some money on its elevators. We stayed in the 7th floor and too many days most elevators in our building were out of service. I have asthma and requiring me to walk up 7 flights of stairs is unacceptable.

3) upon check-in cease and desist with the time share sell (or selling of the "special" meeting which is where the time share will be pitched) Our check in including putting up with our concierge was unacceptably long. Keep in mind your guests have just traveled many hours, thus are tired, and just want to enjoy the beach, pool or restaurant. Not be hit with a non-sense sales pitch. VERY LOW CLASS !!!!

Dear Richard, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Royal Sands. We are pleased to hear that you found the resort fabulous overall. We sincerely appreciate your valuable feedback, as it helps us improve the guest experience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the room key requirement for meals and beverages. This is merely to keep track of our consumption centers. Our resort is a mixed-use resort with some guests coming in a hotel-like vacation with an all-inclusive package and some others which are owners of a timeshare staying without a meal plan. We sincerely apologize for the disruptions caused by the ongoing renovations. While we strive to enhance our facilities, we understand that the noise and closures can detract from your vacation experience. Our goal is to create a more enjoyable atmosphere, and we regret that this was not achieved during your visit. Please know that we are working diligently to complete these upgrades, and we hope they will enhance your future stays. Regarding the concierge, we apologize if you felt pressured by the time-share presentation. These optional tours are designed to highlight the amenities available at the resort, but we absolutely respect that some guests prefer to skip them and enjoy their vacation time uninterrupted. We will make sure to reinforce with our team that guest comfort and relaxation are the top priority. We truly value your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back for an even better experience on your next visit to the Mexican Caribbean. Warm regards. Pamela González Online Reputation Agent

Before arriving at the cancun airport I advise you to look up how much does the resort charge you to pick you up from the airport. We forgot to plan this before our trip, and just ended getting a taxi at the airport to avoid waiting. Right outside the airport there's taxis that have flat rates depending on the amount of people in your group. For a group of 4 the price should be between $600 to $700 pesos to the royal sands resort. For a group of 5 people you are looking at around $1200 to $1350 pesos for a taxi. So be aware.

Our 2 bedroom villa was an excellent choice for our family of 5 (3 kids 2 adults) all inclusive. Room was spacious and we never felt crowded. Room has a full size fridge and mini fridge that gets stocked up daily with beer, water, and sodas. Beds and pillows were so comfortable that we had to look up fabricator in cancun to place an order.

Hotel had everything we needed for our stay, from kids club that offers pool table, video games, arts and crafts for kids. They have a daily schedule on a board of activities. Kids have access to a small water park that is on premises near resort main pool, so kids can be at water park while you are by the pool.

The resort also has other items available for you to borrow during your stay like tennis rackets, basketballs, snorkeling gear, bicycles, small sailboats, kayaks. We found this out towards the end of our trip and the weather didn't allow us to use the small sailboat. You can get more information where you pick up the beach towels. There's a list on a board of the items you can borrow free of charge.

Food was an 8/10 but there were plenty of choices to choose from depending on everyone's like. Service is a little slow but waiters are very attentive and helpful.

Resort did have a night show with buffet at night from Monday through Friday at the gran salon which is a 3 minute walk from main lobby. We enjoyed both shows the tango, and Michael Jackson show were both amazing.

We did take the bus into town for the first time, and the kids loved it. There's a bus stop right in front of the resort, and for $12 pesos person one way you can't beat the price. Taxis wanted to charge us $400 pesos one way for a 10 minute drive. On the way back you can just tell bus driver that your going to the royal sands so he's aware.

Overall our experience at this resort for our family of 5 was amazing. We will definitely return to this hotel, and we highly recommend this resort to anyone coming to cancun.

We were there for a wedding and we were told at check in that we would have to change rooms on Saturday, which was the same day as the wedding. I did not expect to have to wait all day with no access to a room until I went back to the the front desk after 2:30 pm. We had to shower and be ready for the wedding which started at 4.

Our new room still hadn't been cleaned. They offered to give us a key to that room, but I said no because I didn't want to shower and get ready in a dirty room. I asked if we could just get access to our old room so we could get ready there. They finally agreed and we went back to our old room, only to be hassled the whole time by the cleaning staff and manager who wanted us out so they could clean the room. We refused because we had to get ready. We rushed to get out and get to the wedding on time. The bellman didn't come for our things until we were walking out at 4pm. The front desk did not care at all how much stress this was causing.

On top of all that, the food at the buffet was pretty much the same every day we were there. We were there for 6 days. A lot of the food was dry. The last night, we went there for dinner because we couldn't get a reservation to any of the other restaurants and everything was awful. The flautas and anything with a hard shell was so hard and tough that you could barely bite into it. I also didn't like that you have to give them your room key anytime you order and you don't get it back until you sign the check, even if you didn't order anything extra.

We only got to eat at the buffet and Sisal. Sisal was pretty good. I'd recommend getting food at the pool, on the beach or by the water slides. That food was really good.

Don't order room service after 10. It takes 1-2 hours and when we finally got our food, the fries were cold and stale. We didn't even eat it.

Alcohol drinks are NOT served in the morning until after 11am or at night after 11pm. Also, if you're all inclusive, expect to be treated differently at the pool bar than the guests who are paying for their drinks. They wouldn't serve us after 7pm even though we had been waiting, but continued to serve the other guests who weren't all inclusive. All of their alcohol is watered down. You have to pay more for anything better than Absolute, even Titos is extra. My advice... order doubles for every drink.

Make sure to return your pool towels, or you will pay for them. They also hassled us when we asked for more towels for our room

Dear Monica, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. However, we're sorry to learn your visit did not fulfill your expectations. We are committed to the satisfaction of our guests and we are sorry to hear that your experience at The Royal Sands was not what you expected. Our Inventory department works closely with the guest services department to avoid room switching on Saturday. Our priority is that our guests stay in the same room throughout their entire stay. Unfortunately, this is particularly difficult when we have high occupancy and membership contracts to honor. When this happens, our procedure is to notify our guests during check-in so that it's a smooth and seamless process. One of our goals is to communicate accurately and assertively with our customers. We've made sure that the information regarding the room switching on Saturday is available on our website and on all of our business partners' websites. Regarding the quality of our beverages, we adhere to a standard serving size of 1.5 oz. (45 mL) of alcohol, which is a quarter of a standard glass. In frozen drinks, the presence of ice can sometimes affect the perceived strength of the drink. We appreciate your feedback and are always open to adjusting our service to better meet our guests' preferences. We are constantly working to improve the experience of our guests and truly appreciate your feedback. We hope we welcome you back once more to enjoy a vacation that's up to the high standards we've held for our Royal Resorts members and guests. Kind Regards. Pamela González Online Reputation Agent

Overall this is the best all inclusive resort we have stayed at. We traveled with our family of 5 and joined 2 other families and our positive experience was all the same. It’s the little details that sets this place apart from the others. The staff is friendly, they put water bottles, cokes, sprites, tecate beer in your refrigerator and replenish it everyday when they come clean. The food was delicious and there was a large variety. Staff didn’t scold us for wearing a swimsuit cover up instead of being fully covered at meals especially when we were in and out from pool to lunch. You can order fresh ceviche, shrimp cocktails, hamburgers and fries to your group at the pool side or beach side and it’s delicious. Royal Sands recently opened up a water park and that is the only activity that my 3 year old wanted to do. They had 2 large slides for 47 inches and above and 5-6 smaller slides for the littles. There are 2 life guards dedicated to the swim park section and they walk around constantly watching to make sure everyone is safe. The bathroom is close by and the snack bar where you can order drinks or serve yourself a glass of cold water. It’s brand new and super clean. I watched extra staff members come to the water park to tend to a guest with special needs. He was wheelchair bond and they pushed him or carried him all over the water park to make sure he had a good time. They did it with a smile and it warmed my heart.

As a mom of three young kids, it was such a treat to return to my room after playing at the pool or the beach to a sparkling clean room because Herlinda, our attendant did such a spectacular job. She swept any sand that we carried in, made beds, returned the pull out beds to their spots, organized clutter that was out of place and replenished drinks, shampoo, soap and conditioner.

Next time we travel to Cancun for a family vacation with will be returning to Royal Sands.

Beautiful pool and beach. Friendly staff. Clean and well kept grounds. The internet was strong at the pool and in our rooms, which was made internet access seamless during our stay. Club Bistro dinner was surprisingly good, Hacienda Sisal was only average for a Mexican restaurant in Cancun, but it had great ambiance. The basic lunch and breakfast buffets were good, but the default dinner was pretty basic. The food was good, but probably not up to the standards of foodies.

The only peeve was that the all inclusive package included some upcharges for premium ingredients, or tableside service. I can understand the premium ingredients charge, but make it clear that you can get the meal without the extra service as part of your package. Another issue is that even though the resort gave you a wristband, you still had to give your room key and "settle up your bill" for each meal /or service. All this meant was that you had to sign off on your "bill" of zero dollars, and give you an opportunity to tip the staff. The system worked fine once you get used to it, but it took a bit of getting used to since my previous all inclusive was a more seamless experience.

The resort had a convenience store with a good selection of food, snacks, and booze, with prices that were pretty reasonable.

It is a pretty sedate and quiet resort, so don't expect much in the way of nightlife or entertainment.

Dear Mark, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay at our resort. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful pool and beach, the friendly staff, and the clean, well-kept grounds. We’re also glad to know that you found the internet access seamless and that you had a positive experience at Club Bistro. We value your input regarding Hacienda Sisal and our buffets, and we will certainly take your comments into account as we continue to improve. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of having to sign your "bill" after each meal. This procedure is in place to help us track consumption, as our resort is a mixed-use property with both all-inclusive guests and members who stay without a meal plan. We understand this may have been different from your previous all-inclusive experiences and appreciate your patience as you got used to the process. Additionally, we want to ensure you have all the information regarding your all-inclusive package. While most items are included, premium ingredients such as lobster and prime rib do incur a small charge. We strive to make this information as clear as possible on our website and those of our business partners. We look forward to welcoming you back for another enjoyable stay during your next visit to the Mexican Caribbean! Warm regards, Pamela González Online Reputation Agent

Hotel was very clean and the staff in general were friendly [with few exceptions as there always are]. We were told as this is a Timeshare hotel that we would have to change rooms each Saturday, however as we were there for 10 days we would only have to change once [two nights in to our stay]. Unfortunately our Son and his friend who had a separate room to us were however told they would have to move on the second Saturday [last night of our stay] by both the cleaner and subsequently by the manager who paid them a visit to their room. This was rectified and confirmed as the Hotel's error, however very disconcerting as if they had not been in their room when the cleaner came their belongings could have been packed up and moved?

The food is lovely but not varied enough. There are only two restaurants that do not require reservations in the evening and they have set menus which do not change. So if you don't like something, then you have very little choice.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants near by, but if you are all inclusive you would expect to eat mostly at the resort.

Some of the pool bar and sports bar staff were quite rude at the start of our stay [ignoring our requests for drinks, no eye contact], however after a few days and tips they soon warmed up.

Also quite annoying that at each bar [including the pool bar] and restaurant you are expected to hand over your room key [which they keep until you leave that bar/restaurant] as well as confirm your room number. We were all inclusive and were wearing the wrist band to reflect this so why the need to keep our room key. There were times that we would visit both pool bars and were met with a frosty stare when we informed them the key was with the other one. Also, very easy to lose our room key like this.

The hotel is right on the beach which is kept perfectly clean, the sunbeds were always available, although the hotel was not full, so this could be a problem during busy times? They have a flag system that we were told would be removed if the beds were not occupied for over an hour. This, as always, was not adhered to however, but as I said the hotel was not busy so not a problem for us.

Dear Mandy O, We're glad to read about your stay. However, we're sorry to learn your visit did not fulfill your expectations. One of our goals is to communicate accurately and assertively with our customers. We've made sure that the information regarding the room switching on Saturday is available on our website and on all of our business partners' websites. Nevertheless, we're sharing your comments with both: guest services and revenue department so they can review our Resort's information online. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with our all-inclusive package. Regarding the service at the pool and sports bars, we always strive to provide our guests with the highest satisfaction rates and we regret not achieving this goal with you.  In regards to handing over your room key card for every meal, please allow us to clarify that guests are requested to sign receipts for zero-dollar transactions as part of our standard procedure. This is primarily for recording consumption and ensuring accurate billing, especially in our mixed-use resort environment.    We apologize for any inconvenience this process may have caused you. Your feedback is invaluable, and we appreciate your understanding as we continually strive to improve our guest experience.  Thank you for your feedback. We hope to welcome you back in the future! Warm regards, Josimar Amezcua Online Reputation Agent

Beds are terribly uncomfortable! We had 6 rooms booked for family & every one of us had to change rooms after the 1st night because of timeshare people coming in-a big inconvenience! No entertainment during the day at the pools-only 1 game of pool volleyball in a tiny pool! The pools were cold, no heaters on during the day! The jacuzzi’s were cold not even warm! The bath tubs in the rooms had stains in them. All the bars served watered down drinks all day & when you asked for Absolut or Ciroc, they still bought you cheap liquor! Even though we paid for all inclusive packages, some of the food items were not included in the all inclusive package. Room service takes a very long time to bring food & once you get it, it’s cold & in a paper to-go takeout container. I would not stay here again!

Dear wifeyfolifey, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at The Royal Sands Resort. We sincerely apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations. We always aim to deliver a seamless and relaxing experience for our guests, and we regret that we fell short in some areas. Regarding the room changes, please know that our Inventory department works closely with Guest Services to minimize room switches, especially on Saturdays. Our goal is always to ensure that our guests remain in the same room for the duration of their visit. However, during high occupancy periods and when we are honoring membership contracts, it can sometimes be unavoidable. In these cases, we do our best to make the transition as smooth and seamless as possible by notifying guests during check-in. Our whirlpools are regulated to a standard temperature of 89.6°F (32°C), which is considered ideal for relaxation. Rest assured, all of our pools and whirlpools follow safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. We apologize for the concerns you raised about the dining experience and food quality. We’ve shared your comments with our culinary team to ensure that the quality of service and food aligns with our usual high standards. As for the room service delays, we understand the importance of timely and quality service, and we’re working to address this issue with the team to prevent future delays. In terms of the quality of beverages, we follow a standard serving size of 1.5 oz. of alcohol (45 mL). With frozen drinks, sometimes the ice can affect the strength of the drink, but we’re happy to meet specific requests whenever possible. In all our bars we always have Absolut vodka which is part of the package and is available to the guest. Lastly, regarding the all-inclusive package, we always make sure that the details about what is included are clearly communicated. Please note that premium items, such as lobster and prime rib, are available at an additional charge. We appreciate your valuable feedback, and we’ve reached out to you privately via TripAdvisor to learn more about your experience and gather any additional details that will help us improve. We truly care about our guests' satisfaction and are committed to making things right. Warm regards. Pamela González Online Reputation Agent

Are there any non motorized water sports offered at the resort? Kayaking? Thanks!

I did not see any. The ocean was beautiful but very rough. Perhaps on the bay side there would be.
Answer from Mary B
Just returned home. The coffee shop is NOT included in the AI. Housekeeping provided only 1 package of coffee (6-8 cups) per day, so if you’re traveling with a group, I’d suggest asking for more. We had to ask every day. We also had to ask every day for extra bottled water as there were 5 of us in the Villa. Food options are average at best. Still missing two restaurants— El Conquistador and Captain’s Cove with no replacements. Choices are still the Veranda which serves fair buffets, the Bistro which was better than average, but not great, Hacienda Sisal (still stable) and the sushi restaurant that unfortunately doesn’t open until 3 and also isn’t included in room service. At $135 a day for AI, we expected more. Is it a deal breaker? Probably not, but I wouldn’t want to vacation there without knowing this in advance. Safely put, we don’t go there for the food, unfortunately, because it would greatly enhance our stay.
