The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa in Cancun garners high marks for its cleanliness, with guests often finding the rooms immaculate and the grounds well-kept, although timely room service can sometimes be a miss. The spacious rooms boast stunning ocean views and are well-equipped with full kitchens, but a few guests have pointed out maintenance could be improved. While the hotel's atmosphere receives plaudits for its vibrant entertainment and celebratory vibe, some guests feel the pricing is steep, especially concerning food and additional services.
The extensive amenities, including beautiful pools and family-friendly activities, along with its excellent location near shops and dining options, are frequently praised, contributing to an enhanced stay. While the service is generally recognized for being warm and attentive, there have been instances of rudeness and inefficiency mentioned.

Detailed Reviews
We used points to book an ocean front room. I am Titanium Elite but that doesn't really matter at a this hotel. I think because of that, they should say they are a Marriott hotel, but not a Bonvoy Hotel since you don't get any benefits from your Bonvoy level (such as room upgrades, free breakfast, guaranteed late checkout, etc).
PROS: The room has a small kitchen and washer/dryer. Was clean and had jacuzzi tub. Even with very high winds, you couldn't hear it inside the room. Easy to sleep in. Bed was small but comfortable. Staff was very attentive and excellent customer service (they called me by name at restaurant after first breakfast). Breakfast buffet was good with made to order eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc. They do not push the timeshare program too hard, that was nice.
CONS: I mentioned my heartache with the Bonvoy program being useless here. We asked for late checkout and we got an hour. No free breakfast for Titanium Elite. Cost per person was $23.50 USD each day. We did one of the reserved programs for a chef presentation on cooking and making tacos, salsa and fresh guacamole. It was outside and it was very, very windy and cold. There were 6 tables of couples for this. After the chef makes everything (steak, chicken, salsa, etc), then each table gets served the full meal. To me it was a fail. The guys drinking enjoyed it because they weren't cold. The food was cold within minutes of serving. I think this hotel tries hard to be like the all inclusive resorts, which I have stayed and reviewed. They have activities etc. , just the like the all inclusive resorts. So the cost is lower than those resorts.
So in summary I would recommend hotel for location to mall and restaurants within walking distance and cost is lower than all inclusive resorts nearby. 20 min ride from Airport. I recommend this hotel.

Despite it being in the middle of a pandemic Covid19, The Westin Lagunamar was a very relaxing experience. The staff was very happy to see tourist come back to the area and they made our stay memorable. The staff was very helpful and friendly, they went above and beyond to make sure they delivered the best service. During our stay the pools was open, only one restaurant at the pool was open and the beach was technically "closed." However during our 4 night stay we was able to take walks on the beach and splash around in the water but there was not lounging or laying out on the beach. The beach was not open to the locals as well so there was very few people on the beach unlike the beaches currently in the states. We felt very safe upon arrival to the resort. Our temperatures was taken, we was given hand sanitizer and cleaning services was request only, which we didn't mind, it minimized exposure to ours. La Isla mall across the street was open with most of the restaurants and stores open as well where we had many of our dinners. The only reason I gave the resort a 4 star rating because there was a resurfacing project going on right outside the main entrance to the pool area and it got kind of noisy around the afternoon time but did not exceed beyond 5pm. It would have been nice to know that was going on. Overall, I do highly recommend staying at the Westin Lagunamar especially families lookin for awesome pools, large villa rooms and plenty to do across the street.

This was our first time in Cancún not staying in an all inclusive and overall it was good. We loved having the kitchen, all the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect for walking to restaurants.
They definitely want you to go to the time share presentation and weren’t thrilled when we said no immediately and didn’t change our minds. But they did get my husband a great deal on golf! The biggest concern we had was how the concierges “call” the room. It seems like they just have a two way speaker into your room. We were standing in the room talking to each other and suddenly the phone speaker is “hello, good morning, this is your concierge!” And you can have a conversation with them without even touching the phone. It felt really invasive and like they could listen into your room whenever they wanted. We eventually unplugged that phone which forced them to actually call the bedroom phone like normal.
We had lunch at the Viento pool bar several times and were pleasantly surprised with everything we tried - steak nachos, buffalo chicken wrap, burger. It’s not cheap but the convenience is worth it.
We appreciated that the tap water is safe to drink. The room was quiet and we didn’t hear neighbors at all. We didn’t end up using the laundry, but liked having the option.
Other minor things that keep me from rating this a 5...outlets only on one side of the bed, very little hanging space in the closet and long dresses hit the floor, inconsistent hot water in the shower, etc. Not deal breakers, but minor annoyances. Also the concierges are helpful but getting the daily calls felt like they were just trying to sell stuff (like going to the sales presentation).

Most reviewers have already talked about the hotel amenities and service. I would like to talk about the condition of the beach, how to choose a great beachfront room and the Internet.
We were there during the last week of November 2020. We were very fortunate because the first three weeks of November as there were so many hurricanes hitting Central America. I think we can expect more November hurricanes because of climate change.
Beach quality: the beach on this side of Cancun is usually rougher than the north side, but I enjoy watching the tall waves over the backdrop of turquoise blue water. There was no seaweed problem during the week we were there, except for 1 day which there were some (see pictures). The worst seaweed time is during late Spring to late Summer but seaweed can also be present during the late months like November or early months like January, despite what the hotel management claimed.
Westin Lagulamar resort is a complex of 14 buildings that were built in 2005 and it does show its age. During the time we were there, only west side of the resort was open because of Covid and the guest capacity was capped at 60% percent. The 3 buildings that have rooms with beach front views are Buildings 100, 900 on the West side and 1400 on the West side. I was only able to visit Buildings 100 and 900 and not 1400 because only the West side was open. In Building 100, the 1 bedroom corner suite with great views of the beach and the swimming pool are 142 152, 162, 172, 182 ( the first letter 1 indicate the Building 100, the second number indicate the floor and third number is the location of the unit, therefore these are rooms from fourth floor to 8th floor of Building 100. The studio with corner beachfront view and Mayan Ruins views are 151, 161, 171, 181. There are also rooms 153, 154, 163, 164, 173, 174 that have great beachfront and Mayan ruins but they are not corner rooms. However, the rooms 142, 152, 162, 172 and 182 may be facing the sun in the morning. In Building 900, the studio with corner swimming pool/beachfront views are 947,957,967,977 and the 1 bedroom with corner beachfront views are 948, 958, 968,978. I particularly like the corner studio rooms in Building 900 because I don’t think they face the morning sun.
Data/Wifi Speed: The hotel provides a consistent 40 mbps for in-room wifi. Contrary to the data speed of the Caribbean islands, Cancun has a great data speed. My TMobile 5G data was almost 100 mbps on hotel grounds and 40 mbps on the beach.

Overall, our vacation was wonderful.
Positives: the room was very nice, large, great amenities, clean, comfortable, and had terrific views. The property is amazing... gorgeous views, lots of pools so it never felt crowded and clean and well maintained. The gym was small but had good equipment (although one treadmill wasn't working properly) and was always popular. The spa was very nice and my wife really enjoyed her massage on the beach ("best massage she's ever had!")
Negatives: Service was mixed. At Oceano and Duna Sports Bar, we had terrific service on occasions (friendly and attentive) and then poor service on others. Overall, we would say the food is mediocre (breakfast was generally good, however). When we sat by the pool, we never once was asked by a server whether we wanted a drink or food so we had to seek someone out each time. The hotel needs to do a better job of monitoring guests who put down towels early in the morning to claim a lounge chair and then don't turn-up for hours. Throughout the stay, there was always the feeling we were being sold to (not aggressively but it was there)... from the time we booked excursions (and was told we could reduce the price by sitting in a 90 min session, which we didn't do, to purchase a timeshare) to a lack of clarity on the breakfast options (we ended up paying for the full buffet even though we never drank alcohol that came with, for most of the breakfasts) to being asked frequently whether we wanted to purchase spa services or add on additional spa services.
Overall, as mentioned, we enjoyed the stay. I hope the above feedback helps the Westin Lagunamar become even better!

I was a bit nervous about travel during Covid, but the hotel took the situation with extreme caution and care. Temperature checks were mandatory, including the staff. The face shields were prevalent. The hotel did a wonderful job of removing chairs from the pool, tables from the restaurant, and ensuring the entire experience was as safe as possible.
Compared to where I live, the precautions were a nice change. Each restaurant on or off property took similar measures, making the trip stress free.
I wanted to start there, because I know that others have reviewed the view, food, staff, and location. All of which are amazing. I just felt that if you were on the fence about travel, this hotel needs to be at the top of your list for a safe and relaxing experience.

My friends and I decided to throw caution to the wind and travel to Cancun in-spite of the current pandemic. We work hard all year and are in customer facing roles so didn’t feel we had any more risk going away than we did working at home. We had also seen many reviews of people who had traveled here and were confident that Cancun was doing all they could to ensure our safety. The Westin Lagunamar has been no disappointment. When you enter you are greeted with hand sanitizer and an immediate temperature check. You wipe your feet on a cleaning mat and your bags are taken to be sanitized. The front desk is wiped after every customer to ensure a clean area for the next guest. The room is sanitized prior to the guest arriving and no housekeeping is provided to ensure the guest is the only one in the room. The room was clean and neat. My only complaint is that if you plan to hang up your cute kimonos, dresses and coverups you can hang that idea up. The closet has no tall area for hanging long items. We had an ocean view room and it was TRULY an ocean view. The rooms come complete with washer and dryer, jacuzzi tub and shower area. Stove top, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and flatware. The spa, fitness center and kids areas were closed due to the pandemic but the pools and hot tubs work just fine. We were very happy with our accommodations and look forward to 2 more days here.

The Westin Lagunamar hotel is a fabulous family friendly resort with a private beach area. Several wonder pools with a water slide, swim up bar and several restaurants. The service was outstanding but special recognition needs to go to concierge Irma Ruz and bellhop Oscar who both went above and beyond.
We stayed in room 272 which was a wonderful spacious one bedroom Villa with an outstanding ocean view. The room had a full kitchen with a full size fridge,TVs in the bedroom and living room, safe, washer and dryer, separate dining area, ironing board and a great shower.
Across the street from the hotel is an outdoor shopping area with several restaurant and gift shop options.
Also in the hotel lobby was a transfer company called “The One” who provided our transfer from and to Cancun airport.
($69 for both trips) They were great.
We also took a day trip to Tulum with Riviera Maya transfers who were fantastic! Excellent service and prices. You can find them on FB and Instagram.
The resort also had a room set up for Covid 19 testing for a small fee which was very convenient. We loved our stay at the Westin Lagunamar and highly recommended it!

This is my favorite resort in Cancún by far! The rooms are clean, super convenient, and large. All rooms have kitchens and washer/dryer combos, which makes this place perfect for vacations with kids. Staff is always friendly and prompt to react to all requests. True, the food choices are nonexistent inside the resort and the food is quite frankly inedible with the exception of guacamole. Thankfully, restaurant choices are abundant nearby and there are several grocery stores within a short taxi ride of the resort. By the way, the food at the stores is delicious and reasonably priced. The resort pools are some of the largest pools you will find in Mexico. They are clean and well maintained. The beach is amazing and rather large. There are many activities at the resort on a daily basis, including yoga, Pilates, trivia, and tons of kids activities. I want to say a special thank you to the Kids’ Club staff (Maria in particular!) for being so creative and engaging. We look forward to returning to this wonderful resort for many years to come.

My family and I went to the Westin Lagunamar for a 1 week stay. Even though we are in the midst of a pandemic after careful consideration and following all government guidelines we proceeded with our trip. As owners we knew the normal level of service and cleanliness of the resort from our 4 other visits and they did not disappoint this time either! From The minute we walked off the plane the safety measures begun. Every single person had o masks including street salesmen and landscapers. Our luggage was sprayed , temperatures were checked and sanitizer was given out. Plexi glass was installed in any areas where u would need to speak directly with someone. Food was in carry out counters and tables and chairs and beach chairs were 6 ft apart.
This was an incredible experience even when fear is high. It was great to relax and not worry about anything. The resort was only at 30% capacity and we literally had a pool to ourselves most days. Customer service was excellent as usual! We had an amazing poolside waiter named William! He was attentive to my family all week and always made us laugh! Thank you Westin for another wonderful vacation!

We’ve only attended the Steak Night not the Seafood buffet at the beach. The costs of the steak night was around $70 per person USD. The resort usually has these events weekly and they all cost about the same. Good food and great service.
I was able to call them from the USA.
You can walk to Downtown Cancun from Lugunamar, but as someone already mentioned it is a hike. Everyone I have spoken to says the local bus is a viable method of transportation to get down there and very reasonable cost. The mall across the street from the resort is great and plenty of places to get almost anything you want. Grocery store within a 10 minute walk is easily the best way to get fresh groceries.
