Lovely location next to the food and artesanía market, gorgeous views and sunsets from the roof. The staff are awesome and make great breakfasts every morning. There is a really nice atmosphere- chilled evenings drinking and chatting by the bonfire, and the staff know where to go to party all night.

Iguana hostel has such a good atmosphere. People who work there are actually travelers, who know what travelers like. Also, it has a nice garden, and a rooftop terrace, very enjoyable in sunny days. Good breakfast included and very close to the market.

I intended to stay here 2 nights, but I stayed a week. Never experienced such a great vibe in a hostel like in Iguana! Very laid-back and a great social vibe. In other hostels I found it difficult at times to connect with other travelers because those hostels were bigger and more anonymous. But Iguana is small and cozy, and...

I stayed at Iguana for a couple of nights when visiting San Cristóbal de las casas for the first time and instantly felt at home there. The staff (mostly volunteers and travellers themselves) is sooo friendly, easy going and helpful. They prepare delicious breakfasts every morning, and often light a fire in the backyard at night (some days there is...

Iguana really is a place where you can feel at home while being away from home. Rudy the owner always puts all his energy in that people feel comfortable, safe and welcome. Apart from the peaceful vibes Iguana has some excellent parties where you can have a great time with all the other guests and the wonderful volunteers. Iguana has...

I stayed at Iguana two times, firstly while I was doing a visa run from Guatemala (I ended up enjoying the place way to much and staying too long and overstaying my free seven day visa) and secondly about a month later with a friend of mine. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, free breckfast, decent WiFi, but most importantly such a...

In fact this is my second time in sn cris and would deffinitely go back to Iguana. Good location, clean, good beds, nice garden and...

This is an amazing place to stay, and any backpackers I met who had been here said the same thing. You are made to feel very welcome, get amazing free breakfast, are very conveniently located and there are lots of comfy areas to chill out in. Everyone stays here for longer than planned, so be prepared 😊

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Four years since opening, IGUANA HOSTEL is well known among backpackers for its family, chilled out and fun atmosphere. People come to the Iguana for two nights and they stay for two weeks... This is because Iguana Hostel can host only up to 27 people, so it's easy to make friends to share fun with, and we will always take good care of you. Our main asset is our staff: travellers on the road, who love making friends, and speak your language. The IGUANA HOSTEL is situated in a historic Barrio del Cerrillo, with a panoramic view from the terrace. The hostel is located near Santo Domingo a church surrounded and a colourful handcraft market, 2 blocks from the public market and only 7 minutes walk from the very heart of the city: la Catedral and el Parque Central. ... more   less
