Fabulous in many ways. #1 Location, location, location. In the central historic district and a walk to many of the fine sites of old Guadalajara, restaurants and tourist services. Try to get a room in the old part of the hotel surrounding the central common areas to get the best feel of this historic hotel. I've stayed here several times and would be disappointed if I had to stay elsewhere when in Guadalajara.

We spent one week at the charming Hotel Morales in the historic center of Guadalajara. Although we were not content with the first room we were assigned (broken AC and bathroom fan, room too small), the front desk staff kindly arranged for us to move to another room that was in the same price category, yet slightly larger, fully functional and considerably more quiet. Once a junior suite became available, the front desk staff facilitated our room transfer for a very modest increase in price. The junior suite was spacious, well-equipped (with coffee maker and mini fridge) and the bathroom included a hot tub and shower. Our only complaint about the room was the shaking that occurred when a large vehicle drove by, but this didn't happen at night while we were sleeping. I recommend that future guests request a room away from Calle Prisciliano Sánchez. We did not choose the meal plan, but we did enjoy breakfast most days at the hotel's restaurant, alternating between the buffet and the a la carte menu. We were very satisfied with the breakfast offerings and the friendliness and attentiveness of the restaurant staff. The hotel is centrally located and an easy walk to many of the museums and historic churches. I would highly recommend taking the tour to Guachimontones, an indigenous archeological site, one hour from Guadalajara. It's a hidden gem! Except for the minor inconvenience of not having a room that was to our satisfaction on the first night and some minor issues with noise/shaking, everything else about our experience was outstanding. Every single member of the hotel staff, whom we interacted with, was extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. I enthusiastically recommend Hotel Morales.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The architecture was amazing and everything is in excellent order. Our room was okay but the window opened on to an internal courtyard so you couldn't open it or let in natural light.
The pool on the roof was wonderful, even though building work was going on while we were there.
The breakfast buffet was very good and we ate often in the restaurant which was very good value. Our waiter Daniel was wonderful, he spoke English and had a great sense of humour. He also made excellent cocktails!!!
The location is perfect, right in the middle of the town and the door staff look after you, asking where you are going and giving advice.

We stayed here for two nights recently for our first visit to Guadalajara. We took the bus from Puerto Vallarta where we are on vacation. We were delighted with this hotel from the minute we walked in. A beautiful historic hotel with wonderful architectural character, including a fountain in lobby and a multi-storey interior courtyard. We loved the rich orange-yellow colour of the walls and dark wood doors. It feels as if you are stepping back to another era. Our room was elegant and updated, with comfortable beds and a lovely walk-in shower with Spanish tiles. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we loved the beautifully prepared breakfast buffet, with fruit, juices, yogurt, cereals, delicious Mexican Cafe de olla, several hot dishes and an omelette station, where the cooks made wonderfully prepared omelettes.
The wait staff was also very friendly and quick to clear our plates. The price of the buffet, at 170 pesos or about 12 dollars Canadian, is an incredible bargain. Since this was our first visit to the city, we loved being able to walk a short walk to the historic cathedral, teatro degollado, etc.
There don't seem to be a lot of upscale restaurants in the area, but we had a nice dinner at the little degollado restaurant, which has a nice patio with a beautiful view of the cathedral, and very reasonable prices. I also recommend the 7th floor restaurant at the NH Hotel, where the dining room has a beautiful night view of the Cathedral below. Thank you to the staff at Hotel Morales for a wonderful stay. We would definitely stay here again.

We were there for two nights. We are glad we stayed but we wouldn't stay there again.

1. This hotel is beautiful, but it's not being taken care of like it should be. It really deserves to be maintained properly.

2. The pool was freezing and dirty. The freezing part was disappointing but the dirty part was unacceptable.

3. The gym was unimpressive and two out of the four cardio machines were out of order.

4. We were in the Imperial Suite, which was lovely, but there wasn't a dresser to put our clothes in, I had to do my make-up in the front entrance because the bathroom lights were terrible, and the shower head either needs replacing or cleaning because it sprayed everyone except on my head.

5. We were told the rooms had bathrooms but there weren't any in our room. We asked 3 times for them when we arrived. We finally got them the following day in the late afternoon.

6. On our second day, we put the "please clean our room" sign on our door at 10:00am. When we got back to the hotel at 3:30pm, our room still hadn't been cleaned. We had to call the front desk and then wait an hour.

7. We were surprised at how many staff who deal with guests didn't speak a word of English. I speak some Spanish, but it was very frustrating for my husband.

8. We wanted a couple's massage, but changed our mind when we found out that it meant that our massages weren't going to be at the same time.

We are glad we stayed there, and we have no regrets. But it was definitely not the experience that we were expecting, and it makes me wonder if the owners are hands-on or if they've left the hotel for other people to manage.

Pros:
Located walking distance to the cathedral and other sites (about 5 min walk)
Easy check in
Room big and clean
Staff friendly
Easy check out

Cons:
Bed too firm
Toilet not flushing properly
Noisy AC

Arrived via pre-arranged transport from the airport. They hotel arranged the transportation for us. It cost under $20 for two of us. You could also use Uber, which is cheaper.

The room: room 117. Big. Clean. We had a two bed room. The beds were a little too firm for me. It made for uncomfortable sleep. The pillows were great. The room had plenty of natural light coming in, but great blackout curtains. Loved the little balconies.
The bathroom was big. The shower has good water pressure. Hot water worked well. They had the best smelling toiletries. You’ll have shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bar soap, shower cap, hand sanitizer, vanity kit, shoe shine. The toilet wasn’t flushing properly, but we made it work. They tried fixing it and did offer to move us to another room, but we declined. We didn’t have time to pack up and move.
The AC was a little noisy at times.
The room has a safe. The closet fit our clothes perfectly.
The pool and gym are on the top floor. I didn’t use either, but I did check them out.

Safety: we felt safe the whole time around the hotel, but we were told multiple times by different people to avoid walking around the area at night.

Extras:
Eat at la chata. There's always a line, but it goes by quickly.
Our driver from the airport offered to be our personal tour guide for day trips, so if you haven’t booked a trip, consider using a private transport

The Morales Hotel is a beautiful colonial style hotel that has been upgraded and is well apportioned. We stayed in a corner suite with great views of a plaza and one of the oldest churches in the city. The room was big with a nice size bathroom that included a jacuzzi, huge two head shower, and high-end toiletries. The room was well maintained, had functioning A/C with remote, big screen TV, WiFi, in-room safe and daily maid service. The hotel grounds included, multiple courtyards/patios, a restaurant, bar and a refreshing roof side pool. The staff was professional, courteous, and friendly and always attentive to customers. The hotel had 24 hrs. guard security and concierge services which included coordination for pick up at airport, tours within Guadalajara and neighboring towns and they even coordinated for in room COVID-19 tests required for return flights to the United States.

The hotel is conveniently close to the GDL Historical Central District with the Cathedral, Governor's House, and other museums only a short walk away.

We highly recommend you stay at Hotel Morales if traveling to Guadalajara MX

I wanted to stay in a colonial hotel within walking distance to the main attractions and Hotel Morales didn’t disappoint. Totally the opposite. The building is incredibly well kept, the rooms are spacious, comfortable and with A/C (very much needed). The pool is lovely and at the right temperature, idea for a dip after a day of sightseeing. However, the friendliness of the staff is by far the best asset of the hotel. Waiters, desk clerks, cleaning ladies were the most helpful and friendly people one could interact. Edson at the front desk even gave me (for free) a travel card to go to Tlaquepaque on the tren ligero (of course I returned it for another guest to use). If I had to pick something negative is that at nights the surrounding areas might seem dodgy. I was told not to walk around late but I didn’t have any issue at all (and I did walk around late on my way). If you’re happy to stay in a place with character and a short walk from the main attractions this is your place.

This hotel is a beautifully restored building from 1882, with modern conveniences, but keeping the old time charm. Rooms are spacious, very high ceilings, nice bathroom and shower. The breakfast is a great deal, full buffet, made to order eggs etc, $9. The staff could not have been more helpful, friendly, or accommodating. Did not use the pool, but saw it and it is on the smaller side, but this hotel is also in the middle of downtown, great for walking everywhere. My friend had better pillows than me, so if they are not good, just ask. All this for the price was incredible. I would absolutely stay here again.
