Detailed Reviews
Recently stayed for 3 nights and the hotel itself was very nice and well kept with a fantastic location. We booked a Superior Queen room but the one offered had zero view, was dark and the linens had visible wear.
Front desk was reluctantly accommodating to help switch to a double twin room that offered a balcony and a little more space.
Once we settled in to the new room, it was perfect for our needs and there were no concerns with the room or the property. Staff was great and very friendly.
We didn't ask for the difference to be returned but Ideally, the hotel would have voluntarily refunded the difference between the twin room and the Queen Superior room ... which is only a 200-300 MXN/night but from a customer service standpoint, it would have erased the initial, somewhat negative experience entirely.

Charming hotel. My boyfriend and I loved our stay. We had a queen superior room. Plenty of room for 2 people. Didn't really have much of a view, but didn't really matter as we were never in our room anyway. Room was quiet and never heard any outside noises. The roof top area is a nice area to take in the views of the plaza and cathedrals. Never used the pool or gym but did look relatively nice. On site restaurant has good food, really good coffee. Friendly staff. The hotel is in a excellent location. Literally steps away from the Teatro Degollado and the central plaza where everything else is (shops and restaurants). Will definitely think about staying here again in the future.

Hotel de Mendoza
Guadalajara
It's Mexico!

Almost always an imperfect experience with lots of positives.
The Suites are big (almost three times larger than the regular rooms) and pleasant, though dated. But given how things are modernized now, dated is good. We could watch the wonderful mood on the main square, packed with 20,000 Tapatios from both, our Suite and the rooftop terrace of the hotel. Guad was celebrating its 483rd birthday and the hotel is only meters away from the spot where it all began. The impressibe and finely -styled, original Cathedral, built in 1561, is practically attached to the hotel, if things like that matter to you. Location, location, location!
The sheets for the very comfortable queen beds in the Suite were a bit too small for the mattresses and there was a grouping of clear, solidified drops of unkown substance at the foot of the bed on the floor. Also, at about 1:00 AM I noticed a very noisy fan which I tried to bang into obedience with a plastic trash can but to no avail.
I called reception and they quickly sent someone but it was clearly beyond his ability to repair and maintenance people were gone until morning.
They called five minutes later and offered us a room change and without our having to clear our stuff. My wife nixed the idea though the noise was bothersome to her too.
Strangely, having braced ourselves for a noisy night, the fan went utterly silent about ten minutes later.
And so it is with the Mendoza. We love the hotel. We love Guad. We keep coming back to both. but, I hate to say it: "It's Mexico".
I would rather be at the Hotel Mendoza at 120$CAD a night for a large suite, with tub, with the Jalisco Symphony and great restaurants and sights nearby than in a barren, 'woke', pseudo-urban conturbation like Toronto or New York for 600$ CAD a night, even with everything working. And that, these days, is highly improbable.

The location is perfect. The very center. The building is old and romantic. The hotel inside that building is very, very dated. There is no heating. We were explained the thermostat on the wall is for AC in summer. Outside on the street it was less cold than inside the room. Service people were very kind and provided with extra blankets so it wasn’t that bad at night but you definitely are not looking to return to a cozy room after a dinner in town. Wifi was very weak and disappearing altogether for long periods of time.

We chose this hotel for its location and could not have been more please. It is located next to the original Guadalajara Cathedral and across the street from Teatro DeGollado, and the heart of El Centro.
If you’re looking for luxury, this may not be the place for you. Rooms in general could use an update. Our experience would have been outstanding if: there was a small fridge and coffee maker in each room. We had medications that required to be kept cold. Additionally, access to hot water for tea would have been nice. There are no cups/glasses available in each room either. Floors don’t have an ice vending machine, so you have to go downstairs to the restaurant with your small container if you want ice. The shower/tub is slow to drain, and the water pressure is very low. Also, the blow dryer was not robust enough. There is a large terrace with great city views, but not a lot of chairs or more importantly shaded areas to enjoy. The pool area was quaint and very nice, although we didn’t get to enjoy it.
Staff is very professional, courteous and attentive. We had breakfast 3 days at the hotel restaurant. Highly recommend the American breakfast, very tasty and portions were more than appropriate, and affordable.
This hotel is a diamond in the rough. The intent of this review is to set expectations.

Fantastic location, easy walk to most places we wanted to go. Staff here is so friendly and attentive to everything. No matter what we needed they were genuinely happy to help. The hotel is old so don’t expect perfection, but we were more than comfortable and appreciated the historic value of the building. The view from the terrace is amazing. The restaurant at the hotel also has an amazing staff, friendly, fun, and very attentive. Unfortunately the food could use improvement. Its not terrible, just nothing to talk about.

Fortunately, we only stayed for 2 nights. The first one, we had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. I ordered a club sandwich (which was the priciest sandwich on the menu) and it came with like singles yellow cheese. If you’re going to use that, don’t charge like you’re using real cheese.
The next morning, the service at breakfast was terrible. Also, the food took forever and it wasn’t tasty at all.
The next day, when we arrived in the afternoon, the card keys weren’t working. I had to go to the lobby where there was a line because apparently everyone in the hotel was having the same problem. They fixed it and later, that same night, it stopped working again.
The room was ok and the facilities were clean. So if you can avoid the food, the service and don’t mind a few trips to the lobby to get your card key fixed, this hotel might work for you.

This hotel is located a block from the main square in the old centro district of Guadalajara. Our room was quite spacious with 2 queen beds. There is a safe for valuables.
The dining room offers a very good breakfast menu. The food is very good and the Maitre D who looked after us was excellent and funny. We enjoyed him very much.
The hotel offers a small pool in a courtyard setting but as it gets very little sunlight the water is very cold.
This hotel is in an ideal location for exploring the downtown core.

This is my second time staying in Hotel de Mendoza and fourth time visiting Guadalajara and staying in other hotels. Overall, I will keep coming to this hotel. The staff is friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Thank you Gustavo for making our stay always pleasant! The only minor set back was the food from the restaurant. I ordered machacado and fruit with yogut to go on the day of my departure early in the morning. The flour tortillas were not fully cooked and my fruit was not that fresh. This was my first time ordering from the restaurant.

I really liked the location and the curb appeal of the hotel. But I was disappointed about how tasteless the rooms are. My expectations were not high for the price we paid, but a picture on the walls and nice curtains would make a lot of difference.

Some suites might have a terrace. Most rooms don’t have anything. Our room didn’t.
Hi! I stayed here in September. The only construction I saw was across at a different plaza. It didnt impact the hotel. However, there might be new construction. There is a restaurant in the hotel and they serve beer/wine. I am not sure about cocktails. The only thing with someone coming to your room is you have to have a key to make the elevator work so you could just meet them in the lobby.
My room was shower only
