Detailed Reviews
In general it was a bad esperience, although the Hacienda is beautiful and the staff is very friendly and attentive, the room was quite uncomfortable, since it did not even have a chair or table to put the suitcase, so you had to put it on the floor and bend over or load it and put it on the bed. The food's quality is very bad and not enough for all the people in those crowded days, the meals are inclluded in the price wich is expensive for a bad room a awful food. We decided to leave next day from our arrival. We have been here before and it wasn't like this, it used to be very much better.

I always had the desire to stay at the 2 haciendas Santa Maria and San Miguel. In the first one everything was very good and in this one in San Miguel I didn't like it, it was very expensive for what they offer. The room was very x. As an economical room in transit, it was full according to what I had, I had a room near the parking lot which is the simplest and ugliest but the luxury price without offering this service, it includes buffet breakfast, this one is delicious, the food is very simple, little variety but of good quality. flavor. The historical tour is worth it.
In conclusion it is to stay once and that's it. possibly returning to the tour but not for some time soon.

Visited the prismas balsalticas and thought of spending the night here. Had lunch in the restaurant, which, although not bad per se, was extremely mediocre. Nothing special offered on the menu that you couldn’t get in thousands of restaurants around Mexico. Afterwards we wanted to walk around to see if we wanted to stay. We were actually followed out of the restaurant and chased down very aggressively and told there was no walking around allowed unless you paid for a tour. We were basically treated like criminal trespassers. We, of course, left immediately. Would not go back and would not recommend.

The website of this old hacienda promises a quality hotel in a nice setting, a completely renovated hotel. Before travelling to Mexico I reserved a room for 3 persons via email, it was confirmed for a price of 800 pesos per room per night. This hotel was THE lowlight during our 3 weeks trip. Nothing is renovated, the room was quite big, but with old furnitures and carpet, which didn't look very clean. Not comparable with pictures on the website. Even the door did not fit into the doorframe (Mosquitos!). The food provided was terrible, we never had the same expierience throughout Mexico again. The only good thing was that we only booked one night! Basically, the surroundings and even the hacienda itself were nice, but it really needs a renovation. The surprise at checkout: they charged us 800 pesos per person, 400 for a child. This makes a price of 2000 pesos plus 15% taxes - what makes more than 200 USD for a low-quality motel. Never again, avoid this place!

In the area on business, Hacienda San Miguel Regla was arranged for me to stay at for one night, which was one night too long. This hotel was not a pleasant place to arrive at after a very long day. After getting to the "Ventanas" room, and looking to have a hot shower and a comfortable sleep, it was soon apparent that neither were going to happen. There were insects in the shower, which had no hot water, and in the very uncomfortable bed there were long black hairs all over the pillow cases and sheets. Had I not been so exhausted, it would have been very difficult to get any sleep in this room.
This is a very charming, old, beautiful property that has been sorely neglected.
Sadly, there is no reason that anyone should pay money to stay at this property in it's current state.

My parents booked this hotel in order to spend a long weekend outside Mexico City. So, 2 rooms were booked and price was given. Price was not respected for 1 room (2 pers.), we were charged 10 USD more per person per night. Please note that prices were per person per night but it included the 3 meals.
Furthermore, receptionist was not friendly at all. Not a smile on her face, which is not a very good way to start the vacation.
Please note that despite the fact that this is a 5 star hotel (Mexican stars), the hotel does not have any newspapers either local or international. These are also not to be found in the village where the hotel is situated.
My parents are now over 70 years old. We were granted rooms that were far away from the main part of the hotel and especially the dining room/restaurant. A 10 minute walk with stairs was not very friendly. After asking about closer options, we were given the possibility of 2 other kinds of rooms: next to the pool or next to the parking. The rooms next to the pool were smaller and darker and they smelled of humidity. The rooms next to the parking were much smaller and simpler from the ones we had and there would be no price difference. So we decided to stay where we were.
Please do not think that our stay was bad. It was indeed very nice. All the other staff was very friendly. The food (buffet for all 3 meals) was great: it was delicious, fresh and varied. However, the buffet was very extensive on the main days (Friday and Saturday) but on Sunday it was more modest and less choice. Dessert choice was poor and we had to get our dessert at the beginning of the meal otherwise we would not have any or just some jello if we chose to go later.
During dinner on Friday and Saturday and during lunch on Saturday, we enjoyed live music. That was really very nice.
Please note that the pools are heated. There was a main central swimming pool and smaller pools at different areas. This was really great!
The Hacienda is very big and there were lots of places to walk around and sit and relax. There were also a lot of ducks and fish in the lakes so we were close to nature.
Please note that for all those without a car, if you want to do extensive tourism in the area that is only possible with a special tour or on your own with a taxi, which can get quite expensive.
Huasca is a very nice village that is close by and has a great market.
The Hacienda of Santa Maria Regla is also very close to this hotel and can be visited upon payment of entrance fee. It is really worth visiting. The Basaltic Prisms are in the area. This is a rare geological phenomenon that can only be found in 3 places in the world so make sure you visit the one in Mexico.
All in all, we spent a very nice long weekend at Hacienda San Miguel Regla. A big + for the food.

It is supposed to be a 5 stars hotel, but it is really a fraud.
First, on the reservation I got a price and when I arrived, they doubled the price.
The rooms are very cold, dark and musty, with dirty carpet, even in sprig.
The hotel apparently is very comfortable and quiet, but is full of noisy partys, by neighboring haciendas and inside this place. There are a lot of screaming kids all day in any place, restaurant, pools and saloons. In addition, you could be the next to your room to a loud drunk. If you pretend change your room, may be you are "lucky" to got a worst place, but paying a significant monetary difference.
I'll never back again!
By the way, there are a lot of better places close to there.

Thirty years ago, when I first visited and stayed at this hacienda-hotel, it was just beautiful and peaceful. A great place to stay and relax. Today, greed has converted the place into a big business, you cannot even visit it without paying at the entrance. There are other beautiful old hacienda nearby that are more interesting and less crowded.

The Hacienda has stunning views and what is most impressive is how little noise there is on the grounds. There are a series of paths and walkways around the grounds offering views of water, courtyards and some wildflife.
While there was not an opportunity to stay and evaluate the rooms and service, the grounds, views, wildlife and experience was quite pleasant.

My partner and I were lucky enough to find a deal for MS$1800 for two adults all inclusive. We drove up from DF Saturday morning and arrived in time for lunch. The ladies at reception were very friendly and we were soon situatedin our little room Belen. This was not the nicest room as it had no view and was quite small but since we were on a deal we didn't make a fuss! The room was spotless and although the furniture and TV were a little tired it was still solid and serviceable, The bed was huge and the mattress was gorgeously firm.
After unpacking we strolled through the ground which are huge and immaculate. It's like a fairytale and easy to lose yourself for a whole afternoon. We returned to the dining room for lunch and it was perfectly okay. Pretty much what you would expect for all - inclusive lunch buffet (drinks weren't included). Unlike the other reviews we had no problem with the service - all the waiters were very attentive and polite.
Lunch over we decided to hire bikes and cycle down to the Prismos basalticos. The bikes offered in the hotel are ABSOLUTELY USELESS! Both my pedals broke off, they were tiny and had no gears. I recommend you bring your own bikes as it is a great way to get around but don't waste your money hiring theirs!
After the prismos we cycled back (me on half a pedal) and lazed around the pool till dinner. The dinner buffet was adequate but nothing to write home about. After dinner there were some pretty awesome pyrotechnicos around the pool which we thought was a great ending to a lovely day.
We slept in late (easy to do as so tranquil!) and packed up before heading to the breakfast. yet again another adequate buffet but yet again, nothing particularly special. After checking out we drove to the Canyon Pena de Aire. This is awesome if you have a 4 x 4 - we don't so we ended up abandoning our car by the entrance and going the rest of the way on foot. Again, another mental self kicking for not bringoing our own bikes. The route from the Hacienda to the Canyon would have been awesome on bikes. We drove home after this with a quick pit stop in Real del Monte for a pastie and a whizz around the museum.
So, in conclusion:
Pros:
incredible grounds and sense of history
comfortable beds
lots to do and see around Sam Miguel Regla
Cons:
Terrible bikes for hire that disintegrate with every pedal
Quality of food doesn't match up to quality of hotel
