The property is not as well kept as the photos on the website would have you believe. It is rustic, basic, clean, and roomy. The pool is very nice and the staff are helpful and accommodating. The location is great, surrounded by restaurants and produce markets. It's just a couple blocks from the beach. It worked well for my family and I would recommend it to travellers looking for inexpensive accommodations.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for my 40th birthday vacation and loved it. Place was super clean and safe. Had comfy rooms and great location. Nothing fancy, just perfect. Great little lounge pool Talked with a lot of the guests and there is a lot of them that are repeat guests every year. They love it as well. Will definitely stay again.

The owner, Edison, was very helpful with his English speaking and called very trust worthy cab drivers for us. He helped us feel comfortable for our first experience in Mexico. The inn is nothing fancy, but it is clean and comfortable. The main bed is very comfortable, but additional guest beds are a bit too firm for the average adult. The little kids didn't seem to mind. The pool was nice to cool off in as the days are hot and humid. It's close to lots of places to eat and get groceries. There are many massage huts on the beach with massages for $10 an hour, which makes it very affordable to also leave a nice tip. I had 4 hours of massages in 2 weeks! Make sure to plan room for taking home handmade things as gifts. I bought some lovely bowls, candle holders, a nativity, purse and hat. The airport is small and easy to navigate and all the people we met were kind, helpful, and fair. I felt very safe, especially with Edison's help. Thank you Edison and Zihuatanejo for an excellent and fun vacation!

By far our best vacation in Mexico. We found Zihua very safe and the local people extremely friendly and welcoming. My husband and I stayed at the Solimar Inn for 16 nights, February 2018...the perfect place to stay in Zihua. Great location and very secure. All necessities only a couple blocks away and a few minute walk to Playa Madera. The owner Edison, his family and staff made us feel at home so I can see why the repeat guests year after year!!! Our suite was very spacious, clean and we made great use of the small kitchen....the bed was very comfortable!!! Thank you Maria and Dury for keeping our suite spotless! There are many delicious family run and affordable restaurants nearby but we still enjoyed eating at the market stalls, always a delicious fresh meal!! Thank you Edison, your lovely wife and daughter, especially La Tia for an unforgettable vacation. Cannot wait for our return!! Ed and Patricia ***miss you Tia ***

We stayed at Solimar in December and just loved the quiet, comfortable, squeaky clean hotel. It was close to beaches and many wonderful restaurants were nearby. The Solimar has a nice pool in a lovely private patio area. There are shelves of books left by other tourists for you to pick up and enjoy. Our room was spacious. It included a nice balcony, roomy living area and kitchenette and a large bathroom. The owner speaks fluent English and is very helpful with directions or answering questions. We would have spend our entire two month vacation there, but we hadn't made reservations over the Christmas holiday week and it was booked those days. We highly recommend the Solimar.

Inexpensive and close to everything. Each suite has a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, fans, bedroom, tv cable, studio couches. There is a clean pool and friendly owners in residence. A quiet neighborhood a block from the Kioto park.

This was our first visit to Zihuatenejo and we chose Hotel Solimar based on the many positive reviews here on TA. We are SO glad we did! Close to restaurants, the market, Playa la Madera, and the central business district, we walked almost everywhere. Taxis and buses were cheap and easily accessible for longer excursions and day trips. And should you start out on foot but overestimate your abilities, a taxi is always close at hand. The airport is also only 15km away. We thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the small park below, where we could watch the birds(including hummingbirds) as well as the locals going about their business. We spent a good deal of time chatting with other hotel guests, getting great sight-seeing and shopping advice, as most of them were repeat, long-term customers. There is something to be said for a place when folks return year after year! Edison, the owner/manager, was extremely helpful and kind. He obviously cares about the comfort of his guests. Daily maid service kept our room clean and tidy. The lovely pool and seating area is well-used by all the regulars, with card games and visiting happening most every afternoon. All guest are encouraged to join the weekly pot luck BBQ, where they fire up the charcoal grill and everyone can cook what they wish. Our room was large and comfortable for our family of four. The ceiling fans and air-conditioner were very welcome after a long hot day at the beach and we made extensive use of the refrigerator and coffee maker. The kitchenettes include a hotplate, but we found the numerous places to eat nearby much more appealing than preparing our own meals. Oh--and there is a fantastic bakery around the corner on Paseo de la Boquita where buying pastries becomes a daily breakfast ritual. We didn't use the toaster in our room once. Should you need a late night junk food and drinks run, there is a convienient store (OXXO) just around the corner on Plaza Kioto. And we always felt safe walking in the neighborhood during the evenings--keeping in mind we played it safe and kept to the main streets and weren't out after midnight. Hotel Solimar is by no means luxury accomodations, but we didn't expect it to be. We aren't 'All-Inclusive' types, wanting a more authentic experience and our stay here more than provided that. We plan on going back!

We stayed here for a week in early December, just before the high-season kicks in. This small family-owned hotel is located in central Zihua, close to Playa la Madera, with a well-maintained pool and spacious rooms. We chose this place because of the glowing TA recommendations you see here, and we found them to be accurate. The owner, Edison, worked in the U.S. for 16 years and speaks very good English. He’s helpful and friendly, which is probably one of the biggest draws. You can’t beat the rates. We paid 700 pesos/night (about US$50/night) for one of the smaller suites, which was really spacious, with AC, overhead fan in the bedroom, living room with balcony, lots of storage in open shelves and closet. They advertise that the wi-fi is strongest near the pool and in common areas, but we had no problem connecting in our room. There was a kitchen area with sink, stove, fridge, cups, and glasses, and for US $10/night more, they will supply kitchenware. There’s a charge for a coffee pot unless you’re staying a week or more. Bathroom included a large shower; the hot water takes a few minutes. Since some TA reviewers said it was super clean or “spotless,” I wouldn’t want someone to be disappointed, so I’ll add that this is an older place and the furnishings are a bit worn, run-down. . . chips, stains here and there, and the bathroom tiles and sink were discolored. It is hard to keep these "spotless," and they were not shining and spotless. Some reviewers wrote that the walk to the beach was five minutes. I’m a leisurely walker and it was still under 10 minutes and about the same to the town center and Playa Municipal and the Plaza de Armas and the basketball court where local events are held. I like being in the town. . . but, if going again, I’d also consider staying on Playa la Madera if there are places at or close to beach level. (Most I read about have many stairs to the beach.) Since the beach hotels are also equally close to the town center, having quick beach access would be nice. However, for a town location, the Solimar is a terrific value.

I am thrilled to be getting ready to confirm our 2015 dates with Edison ! This will be our 8th year at the Solimar and it truly does feel like we are coming home each and every time we visit. The suites are spacious, clean and comfortable. Great breeze from the patio doors keep the rooms comfortable all day, we only end up using the air at night. We love being able to walk to the markets and cook some of our meals in. The beaches are all within a nice walk or quick bus ride and the pool is perfect to sit and relax in the afternoons. We know we will always find a friend in the court yard area to chat or start a game of cards. Edison's knowledge of the area has helped us more time that we can count with planning dinners out, excurisions, medical needs and other issues that always seem to arise while you are on vacation. Counting down the days-
